WA Police are searching for the perpetrators of a violent home invasion in the suburb of Thornlie, 20 kilometres south-east of the Perth CBD.

Emergency services were called to a home on Bremer Place at about 10:55am on Saturday after two residents — a man in his 40s and a woman in her 50s — were assaulted.

Police say a woman and two men forced their way into the house.

The female attacker stabbed the male occupant in the neck with a bladed weapon, while one of the male offenders was armed with a pickaxe, police said.

It’s understood the victim, who uses a wheelchair, was knocked to the ground during the assault.

The female victim received a fractured arm while trying to stop the attack.

The attackers then searched the property and stole items including a boxed drone.

Both residents were taken to hospital by St John WA.

Police Detective Inspector Brett Ranford said the “brazen” incident was worrying.

“[We] consider all home burglaries to be serious, but when we see such an escalation of violence happen to two vulnerable victims, that is of extreme concern to us,” he said.

“Everyone should feel safe in their home.

“Armadale detectives have now taken the lead and we are now throwing all our resources at trying to identify the female and male offenders.”

Incident leaves neighbour shaken

Local resident Peta Jones called triple-0 after her neighbour ran over to ask for help following the attack.

“She looked distressed and she was in shock … it shook me up too,” she said.

“She just woke up and had her pyjamas on … covered in blood.

“I went over there to check on the man because she said he was bleeding, and he was in a bad way.

“It happened this morning, but I am still shook up.”

Appeal for information

Police are investigating the possibility the attack could have been linked to the sale of goods on social media.

“We believe the sale of an item through some form of social media like Facebook Marketplace or Gumtree may have been a reason used by the female to gain entry; however, this is still being confirmed,” Inspector Ranford said.

“Nine times out of 10 you don’t know the person you’re dealing with … so you just have to be very wary about where you’re meeting up with these people [and] what information you’re giving them.”

The female attacker is described as about 20 years old, with a medium height and build and shoulder-length black hair.

Police say she was wearing blue jeans, a brown and white striped long-sleeved shirt and a black cap with a motif or writing on the front.

The men are both described as being olive-skinned and of medium build and height.

Police are appealing for anyone who has information or saw anyone acting suspiciously in the area to contact Crime Stoppers.
