Severn Stars secured a narrow 58-56 victory at Saracens Mavericks in a thrilling Netball Super League match.

The round seven win on Friday moves Severn into third spot and two points above fifth-placed Saracens in the league table.

In a tight contest, Severn were able to end each quarter with a slight advantage, with goal shooter Sigrid Burger scoring 52 goals overall.

Mavericks’ shooter Ine-Mari Venter netted 40 goals for the hosts.

In the third quarter, a mistake in transition from Mavericks allowed Severn to pounce and extend their lead to five points by the end of the 15 minutes.

Mavericks fought back from seven goals down in the fourth quarter to reduce the deficit to just two, but Camilla Buchanan’s team were thwarted in their attempts at claiming successive Super League victories by the full-time buzzer.

In Friday’s other round seven fixtures, Strathclyde Sirens take on Loughborough Lightning and Leeds Rhinos face Surrey Storm, both at 19:30 GMT.
