Jon Rahm celebrates Europe winning the Ryder Cup by raising his arms in the air
Rahm helped Europe beat the United States in this year’s Ryder Cup

Jon Rahm has withdrawn from the new golf venture launched by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy.

The Spaniard has had a change of heart after having signed up for the indoor “high-tech league”, which will start on Tuesday, 9 January 2024.

“I am sad to confirm that I will not be participating in the first TGL season,” he wrote in a social media post.external-link

“While I still think it’s a great opportunity, right now it would require a level of commitment I can’t offer.”

The league will be run by TMRW Sports, the technology-focused sports company launched by Woods and McIlroy in August 2022.

It will feature six teams of four players, playing each other once in a league format. Only three of the four players will compete in any one event.

Serena and Venus Williams, Stephen Curry and Liverpool owners the Fenway Sports Group are among the backers.

However, many details are still to be finalised, including the prize money on offer, the name of the competition, the owner of one of the six teams, and which team each golfer will play for.
