THE staff member who died at Center Parcs in Woburn Forest in a tragic accident has been named and pictured.

Penny Bulpitt, in her 60s, was rushed to hospital after being hit by a car as the horror unfolded in Bedfordshire on Friday night.

The grandma was said to have been on an errand in the parking area at the time.

But the supervisor tragically passed away in hospital despite the best efforts of paramedics.

In an online tribute, her family said: “It’s such a horrible shock and heartbreak to us as Nan is the backbone of our family.”

While Penny’s sister-in-law Anna Northwood also paid moving tribute.

She told The Sun: “She was  a fantastic mum and grandmother. We’ll certainly miss her.”

Cars are banned from the resort’s roads, apart from going  to and from accommodation car parks on Mondays and Fridays.

Center Parks said: “We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of one of our team at Woburn Forest, our thoughts are with her family, friends and her colleagues at this time.

“We are in contact with her family, and we are offering support to them and any of our colleagues at Woburn Forest who have been affected.

“Center Parcs is working closely with all the relevant authorities following this incident.”

Tragically, Penny’s death is the second at the site in just over a year after a housekeeper was found dead in a chalet last May.

A spokesman for East of England Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 12.17pm on September 22 with reports of a person who was unconscious in Fordfield Road, Millbrook.

“We sent East Anglian Air Ambulance and an ambulance.

“A woman was taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital by air ambulance.”

Detective Sergeant Craig Wheeler, from the Bedfordshire Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “We are investigating a reported collision between a vehicle and a member of staff at Center Parcs Woburn Forest on Friday (22 September).

The member of staff was taken to hospital for treatment but sadly died later that day. Our thoughts remain with her family. ”

Center Parcs in Woburn is the group’s newest resort in the UK and boasts a subtropical pool and spa.

The holiday resort company was founded in the Netherlands in 1968 and currently has five UK sites including Woburn.

The others are Sherwood Forest in Nottinghamshire, Whinfell Forest in Cumbria‘s Lake District, Longleat Forest in Wiltshire and Elveden Forest in Suffolk.

There is also a Center Parcs resort near Ballymahon in Ireland, opened most recently in 2019.

Brookfield Property Partners, which has owned the chain since 2015, is currently looking to sell the business.

Anyone with any information about the collision is asked to contact police via the Bedfordshire Police website or call 101, quoting Operation Latymer.
