Rules for composting: Materials

To begin, think about the size of the materials you’ll be using.

The smaller the materials are, the faster they will degrade, so get a spade, scissors, or knife.

However, while the size of your individual items should be kept small, when it comes to numbers, go huge.

To assist the procedure move forward, use a lot of whatever it is you’re tossing on.

While meat and fish are two of the most common things to avoid when composting, other foods to avoid include cheese, fat scraps, and eggs (though the shells are fine).

Also, never compost pet waste, diapers, coal ash, or any other plant material treated with weed killer.
