July 7 (UPI) — Three people were hospitalized and 21 more were injured after being attacked by a swarm of bees in the French town of Aurillac, authorities said.

This occurred at around 10 a.m. local time on Sunday as passers-by were stung over the span of 30 minutes in the town.

According to the mayor and the prefecture, the bees came from hives nearby on the roof of the town’s large Bordeaux hotel.

Emergency services treated the three victims before being admitted to the hospital after allergic reactions to being sung. One elder suffered a cardiac arrest but he was able to be resuscitated.

According to the fire brigade, the victims’ conditions have been stabilized by Sunday afternoon.

The mayor of Aurillac, Pierre Mathonier, believed that this incident was linked to the invasion of Asian hornets in Europe, which potentially causes honey bees to be aggressive.

“It raises questions about the presence of hives in the city center,” said Mathonier as he had “never experienced such behavior” from the hotel bees.

After this incident, the mayor said he was considering banning beehives in his municipality.

According to the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence, there are between two to nine deaths from bee or wasp stings in the U.K. every year.

July 7 (UPI) — At least three people were killed and 10 others injured in a shooting early Monday, in South Philadelphia.

Officials said the “group of individuals” fired “randomly” just before 1 a.m. EDT near the intersection of Etting Dickinson streets in South Philadelphia.

“You know, this is coward stuff. This is, you know, you see the size of this block. I mean, just individuals just shooting randomly into houses, into cars, children out here. I mean, this is coward, wanna-be thug stuff.” Philadelphia Police Commissioner Kevin Bethel said in reaction to the overnight incident.

According to officials, eight of the 13 victims were transported local hospitals. Many were taken to Penn Presbyterian Hospital. Two of the victims were juveniles and are expected to be okay.

Bethel said the shooting took place during some type of meeting but it is unclear what led to the violence.

“There was a large crowd out here,” Bethel said, noting he had heard about 40 people may have been in the area when the shooting started. “Clearly, there was something going on on the block. You could see that.”

One person with a weapon was taken into custody, their exact involvement is unknown at the time, according to police.

July 5 (UPI) — Two teens are dead and five others wounded after a mass shooting in downtown Indianapolis early Saturday morning.

The shooting killed two boys, ages 16 and 15, at about 1:30 a.m. near the intersection of South Illinois and West Washington streets in downtown Indianapolis, the Indianapolis Star reported.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Chief Chris Bailey blamed parents for allowing hundreds of teens to go unsupervised while out at night.

“This kind of violence … is completely unacceptable and unnecessary,” Bailey told media.

“We are not your children’s keepers. You are,” he added. “Parents and guardians have got to step up.”

The 16-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other boy died after being taken to a nearby hospital.

Four other shooting victims also were taken to local hospitals, and a fifth walked into a hospital.

Police found the victims while responding to a report of a fight at the same location and said four of the surviving shooting victims are teens, and the other is 21.

Two of the teens are 19-year-old adults, and the others are ages 16 and 17.

Police have not determined a motive but detained seven for questioning and recovered several firearms.

The mass shooting was among several violent incidents that occurred after the annual Independence Day fireworks ended on Friday night.

Bailey said police made 20 arrests during the night and recovered firearms from two juveniles in the downtown area before the mass shooting happened.

He said one was carrying a semi-automatic rifle that was stuffed into the youth’s pants.

July 4 (UPI) — Dozens of people were injured by two accidental explosions at a Rome gas station at 8 a.m. local time on Friday.

A tanker truck struck a pipe while at the gas station, which caused a gas leak that led to an explosive chain reaction, the BBC reported.

A relatively small blast triggered a larger blast several minutes later, which caused extensive damage in Rome’s Prenestino neighborhood.

At least 45 people, including 21 first responders, were injured as the explosion shook nearby buildings and shattered windows while creating a large fireball and black smoke.

At least five have been hospitalized, including two men who are being treated for life-threatening injuries.

A neighboring sports center and several other buildings also were badly damaged by the gas station explosions and fire.

Rome Mayor Roberto Gualtieri inspected the devastation and told the media emergency teams prevented a “much more serious tragedy” by evacuating those inside nearby buildings after the initial explosion occurred.

Pope Leo XIV offered prayers for those affected by the tragedy, the Vatican News reported.

“I pray for the people involved in the explosion at a gas station this morning in the Prenestino Labicano district in the heart of my diocese,” Pope Leo said.

“I continue to follow with concern the developments of this tragic incident.”

The police said gunmen opened fire in the River North neighbourhood. At least three victims are in critical condition.

Four people in the United States have been killed and at least 14 others wounded when gunmen opened fire on a crowd outside a lounge in downtown Chicago, according to police.

According to authorities, the mass shooting took place around 11:00pm (04:00 GMT) on Wednesday, when shots were fired from a vehicle travelling along Chicago Avenue in the city’s River North neighbourhood.

Chicago police reported that 13 women and five men, all between the ages of 21 and 32, were struck by the gunfire. Among the dead were two men and two women.

As of Thursday, at least three victims remained in critical condition. The injured were transported to local hospitals.

Police said the driver fled the scene immediately, and no arrests have been made. Chicago Police Superintendent Larry Snelling urged the public to submit anonymous tips to help detectives identify the suspects.

Local media reported that rapper Mello Buckzz, also known as Melanie Doyle, was hosting a private event at the lounge Wednesday evening to celebrate the release of her new album.

Snelling said police were trying to determine a motive and that the venue, Artis Lounge, is closed “until we get to the bottom of this”. He did not identify the number of attackers involved in the incident but said police found two different calibres of casings and were still reviewing footage.

“Clearly, there was some target in some way,” Snelling said. “This wasn’t some random shooting.”

Artis Lounge confirmed they were working with authorities as the investigation continued.

‘I can only describe it as a warzone’

In the hours after the shooting, Buckzz asked for prayers and expressed her anger and sadness on social media.

“My heart broke into so many pieces,” the artist wrote on Instagram Stories.

In her posts, the rapper revealed that many of those injured were her friends, and that she had been in a relationship with one of the men who was killed.

“Prayers up for all my sisters god please wrap yo arms around every last one of them,” Buckzz wrote across several Instagram Story slides. “Feel like everything just weighing down on me … all I can do is talk to god and pray.”

Chicago pastor Donovan Price, who works with communities affected by violence, described the scene as a “warzone”.

“Just mayhem and blood and screaming and confusion as people tried to find their friends and phones. It was a horrendous, tragic, dramatic scene,” he told The Associated Press.

The shooting took place days before the Fourth of July weekend, when Chicago and other major cities often see a surge in gun crimes. In recent years, however, Chicago has seen an overall decrease in gun violence.

During the last Fourth of July weekend in Chicago, more than 100 people were shot, resulting in at least 19 deaths. Mayor Brandon Johnson said at the time that the violence “has left our city in a state of grief”.

June 23 (UPI) — More than 22 people were killed and another nearly 60 were injured when an Islamic State suicide bomber attacked a church in the Syrian capital of Damascus, officials said.

The attack occurred Sunday at the St. Elias Church in the Al-Douweila neighborhood of the capital city.

The Syrian ministry of interior said in a statement on X that the suicide bomber entered the church, opened fire and then detonated their explosive vest.

Security forces reportedly rushed to the scene and cordoned off the entire area permitting specialized teams to begin their investigation, it said.

“These terrorist acts will not deter the Syrian state’s efforts to achieve civil peace, nor will they deter Syrians from their choice to unite in the face of all those who seek to undermine their stability and security,” Interior Minister Anas Khattab said in a statement on X

The casualty toll was initially reported by the ministry of health as nine dead and 13 injured, but the count has steadily climbed in the hours following the attack to 22 killed and 59 injured.

Photos published to the health ministry’s social media accounts show officials, including Assistant Minister of Health Hussein Al-Khatib, meeting with injured victims of the attack.

The Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Antioch posted graphic photos of the aftermath of the attack, showing blood-strewn floors and what appear to be the remains of bodies.

“The arrow of lawlessness was unleashed and struck our souls in the night,” it said in a statement.

“We pray for the repose of the souls of the martyrs, for the healing of the wounded and for the comfort of the faithful of the Church.”

United Nations Special Envoy for Syria Geir O. Pedersen condemned the attack in a statement, expressing his outrage at “this heinous crime.”

U.S. Ambassador to Syria Tom Barrack also offered his condolences.

“These terrible acts of cowardice have no place in the new tapestry of integrated tolerance and inclusion that Syrians are weaving,” he said on X.

“We continue to support the Syrian government as it fights against those who are seeking to create instability and fear in their country and the broader region.”

The ​​United States Geological Survey (USGS) says the earthquake registers a 5.6 magnitude.

Local radio stations also reported that the quake led to the cancellation of a major football match scheduled to be held in Lima.

The South American country lies on what is known as the “Ring of Fire”, a path along the Pacific Ocean that is frequently struck by earthquakes and active volcanic activity, with Peru averaging at least 100 detectable earthquakes every year.

The last major earthquake occurred in 2021 in the Amazon region, registering a magnitude of 7.5, and left 12 people injured, destroying more than 70 homes.

The most disastrous earthquake to hit the country was in 1970 and struck the Ancash region of Peru, causing mass landslides that resulted in the deaths of about 70,000 people.

June 15 (UPI) — At least one person was critically injured Saturday in a shooting at a protest against President Donald Trump in Salt Lake City. It came hours after two Democratic lawmakers in Minnesota were shot dead by a gunman.

The “No Kings” protest, one of many that took place across the United States, was attended by some 10,000 people, according to preliminary estimates from the Salt Lake City Police Department.

The shooting happened around 7:56 p.m. when officers heard gunshots in front of a luxury high-rise residential building on State Street, a main thoroughfare through the city leading to the Utah State Capitol in an area with local, state and federal government facilities.

“Officers responded to the scene and found one person with a critical gunshot wound. Those injuries are considered life-threatening,” police said in the news release.

With information provided by witnesses, police tracked “one of the involved parties” and arrested him nearby. His identity was also not provided, but he was said to have been taken to a local hospital to be treated for serious injuries from a gunshot wound and remains under police supervision.

Two other people were also taken into custody later, the Salt Lake Tribune reported. The motives for the shooting are still under investigation and the roles of each of the four people remain unclear, but Salt Lake City Police Chief Brian Redd told KSL.com that it appeared the people were involved “at some level” in the protest.

It was also not clear what charges the three people who were detained might face.

“I want to urge everyone in the public to be calm, to give one another grace and to look out for one another tonight and in the coming days,” Salt Lake City Mayor Erin Mendenhall said, as reported by KUER, calling the violence “horrific.”

Utah Gov. Spencer Cox, a Republican, called the shooting “a deeply troubling act of violence that has no place in our public square.”

June 11 (UPI) — The Police Service of Northern Ireland announced Wednesday that things are currently quiet in a County Antrim town after violent attacks on police over a two-night stretch left 17 officers injured.

“Calm has been restored in Ballymena following serious disorder in the Clonavon Terrace, North Road and Bridge Street areas last night,” said officials in one of a series of press releases that has documented recent unrest in that community in Northern Ireland. Five people have since been arrested “on suspicion of riotous behavior” with a sixth taken into custody “on suspicion of disorderly behavior.”

Police report that stone and gas bombs were hurled at officers and their vehicles over several hours of riots that also saw residences and businesses attacked. The police also announced there was “public disorder in Ballymena” Monday evening.

Officials also confirmed that rubber bullets and a water cannon were used to try and quell the crowds involved in what Assistant Chief Constable Ryan Henderson described in a Sunday release as a “racially motivated disorder in Ballymena” that followed a protest.

The rioting, which has also been reported in Belfast among other communities in Northern Ireland, has been widely described in the media as related to “anti-immigration protests.”

The uproar allegedly followed the arrest of a 28-year-old man on Monday in connection to the Saturday sexual assault of a teenage girl in Ballymena. That arrest was the third connected to the incident, as police previously announced Sunday that two teenage boys were charged with attempted rape in connection to the assault.

First Minister of Northern Ireland Michelle O’Neill posted to X Wednesday that “Those responsible for this violence bring nothing to our communities but hatred, fear, and division.”

Rioters said to target ‘foreigners’ in Northern Ireland town following alleged sexual assault of local teenage girl.

Hundreds of masked rioters have attacked police and set homes and cars on fire in Northern Ireland’s Ballymena in the second night of disorder described as “racially motivated” by police following a protest over an alleged sexual assault in the town.

Police said they were dealing with “serious disorder” on Tuesday night in the town, located about 45km (30 miles) from the capital Belfast, and urged people to avoid the area.

Officers in riot gear and driving armoured vehicles responded with water cannon and firing plastic baton rounds after being attacked with Molotov cocktails, steel scaffolding poles and rocks that rioters gathered by knocking down nearby walls, the Reuters news agency reports.

One house was burned out and rioters attempted to set a second home alight, according to reports, while several cars were set on fire.

The Belfast Telegraph newspaper said that some residents in Ballymena have started to mark their front doors to indicate their nationality to avoid attack, while Irish media outlets report that a call has gone out for protests to be held in other towns and cities in Northern Ireland, currently part of the United Kingdom.

During earlier violence on Monday, four houses were damaged by fire and windows and doors were smashed in other homes and businesses, in what police said they are investigating as racially-motivated hate attacks.

“The terrible scenes of civil disorder we have witnessed in Ballymena again this evening have no place in Northern Ireland,” the UK’s Northern Ireland minister, Hilary Been, said in a post on social media.

“There is absolutely no justification for attacks on PSNI [Police Service of Northern Ireland] officers or for vandalism directed at people’s homes or property,” he said.

Unrest first erupted on Monday night after a vigil in a neighbourhood of Ballymena where an alleged sexual assault occurred on Saturday. The trouble began when people in masks “broke away from the vigil and began to build barricades, stockpiling missiles and attacking properties”, police said.

Two teenage boys, charged by police with the attempted rape of a teenage girl, had appeared in court earlier in the day, where they had asked for a Romanian interpreter, local media reports said.

Tensions in the town, which has a large migrant population, remained high throughout Tuesday, with residents describing the scenes as “terrifying” and telling reporters that those involved were targeting “foreigners”.

“This violence was clearly racially motivated and targeted at our minority ethnic community and police,” Northern Ireland Assistant Chief Constable Ryan Henderson said.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland said it was investigating “hate attacks” on homes and businesses and that 15 officers were injured in the rioting on Monday, including some who required hospital treatment.

Cornelia Albu, 52, a Romanian migrant and mother-of-two who lives opposite a house targeted in the attacks, said her family has been “very scared”.

“Last night, it was crazy, because too many people came here and tried to put the house on fire,” Albu, who works in a factory, told the AFP news agency.

She said she would now have to move, but was worried she would not find another place to live because she was Romanian.

ST. LOUIS — The number of Dodgers pitchers on the injured list grew by one Saturday when the team sidelined Tony Gonsolin because of discomfort in his surgically repaired right elbow.

An All-Star in 2022 when he won 16 games, Gonsolin missed all of 2024 and the first 30 games this season after undergoing Tommy John surgery. He returned to make seven starts, going 3-2 with 5.00 ERA. In his last outing Wednesday against the Mets, he gave up two earned runs on three hits in five innings of a 6-1 loss.

Gonsolin, 30, is 37-13 with a 3.33 ERA in six seasons with the Dodgers.

His move to the IL further scrambles an already complicated situation for manager Dave Roberts, who is missing 16 pitchers because of injury, including three key starters in Blake Snell, Roki Sasaki and Gonsolin. It also leaves the Dodgers’ pitching rotation uncertain for this week’s key series with second-place San Diego.

Right-hander Dustin May is scheduled to start the first game Monday but Roberts will have to fill Gonsolin’s spot in the rotation Tuesday. One candidate for that opening is right-hander Matt Sauer, who has made seven appearances, including one start, for the Dodgers this season, winning his only decision and posting a 3.05 ERA in 20 2/3 innings. The Dodgers optioned Sauer to triple-A Oklahoma City on May 24.

Wednesday’s game could be a bullpen game, but that would be extra stress on a relief corps that already leads the majors in innings pitched.

Justin Wrobleski, who threw a career-high 104 pitches in a loss Friday to the Cardinals in his second start of the season, could get the start Wednesday.

The Dodgers made three other moves Saturday, activating relievers Michael Kopech and Kirby Yates from the injured list and designating right-hander Chris Stratton for assignment.

The Dodgers now have 15 pitchers on the injured list. This team, with all of its talent, is going nowhere without frontline pitching. Andrew Friedman realized this when he emptied Fort Knox during the offseason. But, like previous seasons, they are dropping like flies, with shoulder and forearm issues.

Other MLB teams don’t seem to have these issues, at least not to this degree.

At what point do we begin to look at the training staff, starting with pitching coach Mark Prior? What is it that he’s asking (and teaching) these guys to do with their arms, to get that extra ‘something’ out of them? Too often that extra something becomes nothing at all.

The underperforming, injury-plagued — and very well-paid — Dodger pitching staff illustrates the true financial advantage of big-market teams willing and able to spend. Yes, the Dodgers can afford to sign and pay frontline players, but, just as important, they can also afford to set aside or simply eat the contracts of those expensive players if they become hurt or ineffective, and replace them with additional highly (over)paid players. It’s almost a lock that, if their staff isn’t healthier and more reliable come August, the Dodgers will probably trade for pitching help and take on even more salary. Small-market teams such as the Reds, Guardians and Pirates can’t sign many top-tier players in the first place, let alone replace them if they don’t pan out.

Instead of spending hundreds of millions on pitchers to sit on the injury list for the majority of every year, I recommend the Dodgers instead allocate those funds to put nine All-Star offensive players in the lineup. Then just do what the team always winds up doing anyway — rely on inexpensive, lower-tier and journeyman pitchers for the season.

June 3 (UPI) — At least 27 Palestinians were killed and dozens injured early Tuesday near an aid hub run by the U.S.-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation in southern Gaza, according to the territory’s Health Ministry.

The Hamas-run ministry said in a social media update that the people were waiting at an area designated as an aid distribution point in Rafah and that 27 bodies and 90 injured had been brought to hospitals, “some of them in a critical condition.”

The statement did not say how the victims were killed and injured, but the incident follows the deaths of at least 31 Palestinians and injuring of more than 200 after Israel Defense Forces allegedly opened fire on a crowd at the same location Sunday.

The IDF said on its official account on X on Tuesday that troops fired warning shots to deter “several suspects moving toward them, deviating from the designated routes” leading to the aid site. When the suspects failed to turn back, the soldiers directed additional fire toward individuals continuing to advance toward their positions.

The IDF said it was aware of Tuesday’s reports of casualties and was looking into the details.

“The IDF allows the American Civil Organization (GHF) to operate independently in order to enable the distribution of aid to the Gazan residents — and not to Hamas. IDF troops are not preventing the arrival of Gazan civilians to the humanitarian aid distribution sites. The warning shots were fired approximately half a kilometer away from the humanitarian aid distribution site toward several suspects who advanced toward the troops in such a way that posed a threat to them,” the military’s statement read.

However, an overseas volunteer doctor working in a nearby hospital told the BBC it had been “total carnage” since just before 4 a.m. local time and that they had been deluged with injured people.

On Monday, U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called for an urgent, independent probe into the violence that reportedly occurred Sunday.

“I am appalled by the reports of Palestinians killed and injured while seeking aid in Gaza yesterday. It is unacceptable that Palestinians are risking their lives for food,” he said.

The IDF has categorically denied any involvement in Sunday’s incident, insisting an initial investigation had found “the IDF did not fire at civilians while they were near or within the humanitarian aid distribution site.”

The Gaza Health Foundation, set up to run the new U.S.-Israeli mechanism for delivering humanitarian assistance into Gaza, which bypasses the United Nations and other aid agencies, also denied the reports of Sunday’s violence, saying aid had been distributed without incident and that there had been no injuries or fatalities.

However, GHF has been plagued by problems since it began operations in Gaza a week ago with thousands of hungry Gazans swamping its Tel al-Sultan Secure Distribution Site One from day one.

The scheme aims to prevent aid from allegedly being stolen and resold by Hamas to fund its military operations against Israel, but the U.N. and legacy aid agencies have roundly condemned it as being in breach of humanitarian ethics and “weaponizing” the issue of aid.

GHF’s two top officials, Executive Director and former U.S. Marine Jake Wood and Chief Operating Officer David Burke, both resigned in the days before the scheme began operating.

Burke has not publicly commented on his decision, but Wood said he resigned because the scheme was out of step with the key humanitarian principles of “humanity, neutrality, impartiality, and independence.”

A HUGE 5.8 magnitude earthquake has struck Greece and Turkey killing one person and leaving fearful locals jumping off buildings.

The quake struck just after 2am local time this morning (12am BST) about 68km deep and just off the coast of Turkey.

Seven people were injured after jumping from windows or balconies in a panic, the governor of the Turkish city of Marmaris, Idris Akbiyik, said.

It was felt in neighbouring regions, including in the Greek island of Rhodes, waking many from their sleep, Turkey’s NTV television reported.

The Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency said the earthquake was centred in the Mediterranean Sea and struck at 2.17am.

Brit holiday company TUI told customers currently holidaying on the resort island that local authorities were assessing the situation.

They said: “At this time, there are no reports of significant damage or injuries. As a precaution, please remain calm and follow any safety instructions provided by your accommodation or local officials.

June 2 (UPI) — One person is dead and 11 others are wounded following a shooting that occurred at a house party in Catawba County, according to authorities, who said they are looking for suspects.

The shooting occurred at around 12:45 a.m. local time Sunday at a residence in Mountain View, Catawba County, located about 57 miles northwest of Charlotte.

Law enforcement arrived at the scene following multiple reports of shots fired to find 11 people suffering from gunshot wounds and one person dead at the scene, Maj. Aaron Turk of the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office told reporters during a press conference.

The severity of the injuries was not disclosed, but Turk said one of the victims was critically injured and was taken to a hospital in Charlotte. Of the other 10 victims transported to local hospitals, some had been treated and released, Turk said.

He said more than 80 shots were fired in the shooting.

Dozens appeared to have been present at the party, and their ages ranged, including some teenagers.

No arrests have been made, and authorities said they believe more than one shooter, and multiple guns, were involved.

“We are still working to determine when they arrived, how they arrived and what the reasons was for their presence, also the motive,” he said.

The shooting occurred less than two hours after police were called to the residence over a noise compliant.

Turk said officers responded to the residence concerning the noise complaint, spoken with individuals at the home regarding the complain and left shortly afterward.

“We don’t believe that this was random in a circumstance that might danger the community,” Turk said. “All that we can see right now from the crime scene and the leads that we’re follow, it seems to be that those that initiated the shooting were focused on the folks at the party.”

The FBI said it is aiding in the investigation.

Catawba County Sheriff Donald Brown added in the press conference that this is not a common crime in the region.

“It is frustrating,” he said. “This is not a common act or incident that happens here in Catawba County. We live in a great community, and this is something that is extremely rare. Again, I said I talked to some neighbors here — they are visibly upset. And to our staff that works these types of cases, it’s very difficult. It’s taxing on them. They’ve been out here all night.”

According to The Gun Violence Archive, there have been at least 127 mass shootings involving four or more people shot so far in the United States this year.

June 1 (UPI) — At least two people have died, and hundreds were reported injured, in the chaotic aftermath of Paris Saint-Germain’s victory against Inter Milan at the Champions League final in Munich on Saturday.

The French Interior Ministry confirmed in an emailed statement to UPI that two people had died and 192 people were injured overnight Saturday. In total, 559 arrests were made, including 491 people in Paris.

The chaos also led to the injury of 22 police officers and seven firefighters, the Interior Ministry said. There were 692 fire incidents recorded, including some 264 burning cars.

PSG had defeated Inter Milan 5-0, marking the team’s first championship win and the first time a French team had won in more than three decades.

“All over France last night, numerous police and firefighters were injured as they intervened to restore public order and provide assistance during the Paris Saint-Germain victory celebrations,” French National Police spokesperson Agathe Foucault said in a statement.

“In Coutances, Manche, a police officer from the canine brigade was hit in the eye by a firework mortar. He is currently hospitalized in a serious condition. Thoughts and best wishes for a speedy recovery to all our colleagues.”

The deaths included a 17-year-old boy who was stabbed in the chest in the southern town of Dax and a 23-year-old man who was hit by a car while riding his scooter in central Paris, The New York Times reported.

Bruno Retailleau, the French interior minister, called rioters “barbarians” in comments to social media.

June 1 (UPI) — Several people were injured in a mall shooting that police are calling a “target terror attack” in Boulder, Colo. Sunday, FBI Director Kash Patel said. A suspect is in custody.

“Our agents and local law enforcement are on the scene already, and we will share updates as more information becomes available, Patel said, according his post on X.

The incident occurred just before 1:30p.m. MDT at Pearl St. Mall where a group was gathered in a peaceful pro-Israel demonstration, known as the Boulder Run for their Lives event.

The Anti Defamation League said it was aware of the attack.

“ADL is monitoring the situation in Colorado as we approach the holiday of Shavuot,” it said in a statement on Facebook.

Police responded to reports of a man wielding a weapon and that people were being set on fire, a statement on social media from the Boulder Police Department said. It said there were multiple burn victims on the scene.

Witnesses told local media that the suspect attacked victims with Molotov cocktails.

Police established an evacuation zone and directed people to avoid the area. Emergency medical crews transported several victims to local hospitals, some of whom sustained life-threatening injuries, police said.

Colo. Gov. Jared Polis called the incident a “heinous act of terror.”

“Hate-filled acts of any kind are unacceptable,” he wrote on X. “While details emerge, the state works with local and federal law enforcement to support this investigation.”
