Turkey holidaymaker shares travel warning as he exclaims ‘don’t bother coming’

A man who was in Turkey on holiday has shared a word of warning – but other people have said that they disagree with his assessment of the country and its prices

Turkey remains amongst the most favoured holiday destinations for Brits, with an impressive 4.4 million UK tourists flocking to the nation in 2024. Time Out reported this positioned Turkey as the eighth most sought-after tourist hotspot for UK holidaymakers, trailing behind destinations such as Spain, France, and Greece, though visitor numbers continue climbing annually.

Nevertheless, if you’re considering Turkey as your next getaway, one Welsh bloke has a stark warning: “Don’t bother”. The individual, who shares content on TikTok as @northwalesboii, revealed he’d travelled to Turkey for his summer break only to be left thoroughly disheartened by one particular aspect.

In his clip, the tourist grumbled that everything had become “too expensive”, urging potential visitors that if they’re determined to experience Turkey, they’d better be ready to pack “a lot of money”.

He didn’t specify his Turkish location, though some of the nation’s premier attractions include the capital Istanbul, alongside Cappadocia, Antalya, and seaside destinations like Marmaris.

The holidaymaker declared: “Just to let you know, if you’re coming on holiday to Turkey, bring a lot of money. You will spend it. Everything has gone up.”

Warning: The below video contains strong language.

“It never used to be so expensive; it used to be so dirt cheap to come here. To eat out, to drink out.

Not no more. It is f***ing expensive.”

Opinions were divided among those commenting on the video. Some concurred that prices had indeed risen, with numerous individuals recounting their recent holiday experiences of being charged 400 Turkish Lira for a beer, equating to roughly £7.30.

One commenter remarked: “I go three times a year, and you are correct, it’s gotten expensive. It will go up again. Next year, we’re looking at different places.”

Yet, there were those who maintained that their latest trips were “cheaper than the UK”.

A user countered: “Don’t know what part you went to. We have just got back from Antalya, had a great time, and it was cheaper than the UK. “

Another chimed in: “I don’t know where you guys are going, but it’s really cheap in Turkey. I do a lot of shopping and the food is cheap as well. “

By 2024, travellers were warning that unchecked inflation might render Turkey a “ghost town” within a few years, with one person lamenting that tourist spots were “becoming like London prices.”

He expressed at the time: “I’m sat in this place now – for a burger it’s £12. For a water it’s £2 – it’s becoming like London prices.

“My sister, and her little family, said they’re not going to come back again. “”I’ve seen some posts on here where people are saying, give it a few more years, and Turkey’s going to be dead.”

Luke Littler left perplexed by fan’s bizarre jibe at Australian Darts Masters

LUKE LITTLER has learned to block out the haters and hecklers, saying: I just let my darts do the talking.

The Nuke is heading to Auckland for part two of his Down Under jaunt this summer.

The 18-year-old banked £30,000 on Saturday when he beat Belgian thrower Mike De Decker 8-4 in the final of the Australian Darts Masters in Wollongong.

It was his fourth success on the World Series of Darts circuit and was equally impressive given that he had not practised ahead of this 21,000-mile round trip.

Every time he failed to hit a treble during the evening’s three games, a group of locals shouted out “rubbish, rubbish” and someone even bizarrely said he was “washed”.

This comment perplexed Littler but it is believed to mean he is supposed to be washed-up and not as good as he used to – which is clearly not the case.

The more he wins, the more he will be targeted by irate punters but even for someone so young, he has learned to rise above it all.

There have been times in Germany where he has been singled out and he was asked if he had gotten used to dealing with a portion of the crowd being on his back.

Littler, in his second season as a pro, said: “For myself, the first time I hear it, I will obviously do something, but then I will let it go by.

“Just do my darts. Let the darts do the talking.

“No-one has taught me how to deal with much. I just get on with things. You are on stage alone.

“No-one else is with you. No-one else is going to help you unless it’s a few guys from the crowd. Yeah, you have just got to get on with it.”

Littler – who is on the two-week trip with new girlfriend Faith – is in good form and in a good mood, telling his rivals that his confidence is sky high.

No-one else is with you. No-one else is going to help you unless it’s a few guys from the crowd. Yeah, you have just got to get on with it.

Luke Littler on dealing hecklers while on the stage

An early-morning flight to Kiwi country means shifting his body clock by another two hours – he has already said he struggles with jetlag on the other side of the world.

Last year, the Warrington teen was defeated in a last-leg decider 7-6 by world No.1 Luke Humphries in the semi-finals at the Globox Arena in Hamilton.

Littler, the newly-crowned World Matchplay champion, says he has a policy of practising hard for the big TV events but for the smaller ones, he will simply rock up and do his thing.

The world No.2 said: “I’m very happy. My debut last year in Australia didn’t go to plan. But second time lucky.

“I want to be winning things. We look to New Zealand next week.

“I will enjoy this. But then it’s an early flight again. An extra two hours ahead – so I will definitely be needing some sleep.

“It’s only my second time coming to New Zealand. I didn’t do much last year.

“We can make the most of four to five days and then once it comes to Friday that is when the darts starts again.

“I’m feeling confident. This is the most confident I have felt in a very long time.

“For myself I know how much I will practise, how much I have been doing.

“But yeah I practised really well for the World Matchplay and won it. I think I will practise for the big ones.

“As a player, you are on stage for a long time. You practise leading up to it and when you are on stage, you gain that confidence.

“You get warmer and you find those four or five gears.”

Woman visits London food market and is gobsmacked by ‘disturbing’ £17.50 kebab

While London’s markets are known for their diverse food offerings, one woman was left stunned by an unexpected discovery ata particular food stall that left her questioning what she was seeing

London’s a food lover’s dream, full of spots serving everything from posh meals to snacks and quick eats. Markets often serve up street food, relaxed, informal meals and allow guests to sample various international flavours.

Camden Market represents a favourite destination, situated alongside the Regent’s Canal. This marketplace is made of several individual markets, but Camden Lock Market remains the original and most renowned section, celebrated for its craft stalls, retro clothing and varied food and drink options. The Stables Market, set within former horse stables, forms another legendary segment recognised for its cobblestone courtyards and vibrant umbrella walkway.

One woman stumbled across an unusual food vendor in this section of Camden Market that left her completely puzzled.

Nicola Muddle posted a TikTok clip showing an octopus kebab mounted on an vertical machine, resembling those typically found in doner kebab shops.

She wrote alongside the footage: “Saw this today at Camden markets and I can’t understand it, someone explain.”

The video features Pescobar Kebap, which serves seafood for takeaway, including its distinctive octopus kebabs, octodogs (octopus hot dogs) and popcorn prawns.

It focuses on freshly sourced seafood that gets either flame-grilled or deep-fried for a satisfying crunch.

The octopus kebab stands as one of the signature dishes on the menu, featuring grilled octopus tucked into pitta bread alongside spiced chips, aioli, cucumber, radish and aromatic herbs, and it will cost you a hefty £17.50 if you want to sample it.

Content cannot be displayed without consent

Another standout dish is the venue’s octodog, boasting a charred octopus tentacle nestled in a toasted brioche bun with aioli and chimichurri sauce for £16.50.

Pescobar Kebap was established by Paul Nicolau, who began with a modest seafood market in Romania before growing his enterprise by launching restaurants throughout the nation and globally, alongside the Camden Market outlet.

Nicola’s TikTok clip capturing her discovery of Pescobar Kebap during her market visit has racked up an incredible 3.2 million views, 45,300 likes and over 600 comments within two days.

Punters expressed divided opinions about an octopus doner kebab with one declaring: “Octopuses are one of the most intelligent, sensitive creatures on earth. This is horrifying.”

Another agreed: “That is the most disturbing thing I’ve ever seen.”

A third added: “I’m not ok with this. That’s not how I’m used to seeing octopuses! But give me a lamb kebab ANY day of the week!”

Someone who appreciated the creative cuisine noted: “Omg an octopus kebab sounds delicious! But you know it’s gonna be hella expensive!”.

A second fan, who has sampled the octopus kebab, observed: “I had one whilst in London! SO good!”.

Others revealed they were simultaneously repelled and fascinated by the unique food item as a different viewer stated: “I’m appalled but I want some.” Another shared: “I hate this and want it at the same time.”

I’m a beauty expert, why you should NEVER wax before holidays – it can leave your skin looking worse & you’ll be in pain

A HAIR removal specialist has warned travelers not to get a wax immediately before boarding a flight, as it could lead to painful skin problems that might spoil the start of a holiday.

Timca Pruijt, hair removal expert from Laser Hair Removalo, says the conditions inside aircraft cabins can worsen post-wax skin irritation, causing redness, increased sensitivity and potential infection risks.

An expert has revealed why you should avoid a bikini wax before holidaysCredit: Getty

She noted that many people book last-minute beauty treatments just before flying abroad, without considering how the aircraft environment might affect freshly waxed skin.

Cabin air is extra dry

“To avoid condensation, cabin humidity is reduced dramatically to anywhere between 10% and 20%, according to the Federal Aviation Administration’s latest Aviation Weather Handbook.

“This is much lower than what your skin is used to, which is ideally between 30% and 50%, based on guidance from the US Environmental Protection Agency,” Pruijt explains.

“We can easily feel our lips chapping, our nose drying and our eyes getting itchy, but we rarely remember our skin is suffering too.”

She explains that newly waxed skin will have its protective hair layer removed, and tiny pores are left open and exposed.

“After waxing, your skin needs time to recover and close those open pores. The ultra-dry cabin air draws moisture from your skin at the worst possible time – right when it needs hydration to heal properly,” she adds.

“People often forget that waxing is not just hair removal; it is quite traumatic for the skin. You are pulling hair from the root and removing a thin layer of skin cells in the process,” she says.

Pruijt also points out that the stress of travelling, along with changes in temperature between air-conditioned airports, hot tarmacs and cool cabins, puts additional strain on your skin’s ability to recover.

Your Skin Needs At Least 48 Hours to Heal

According to Pruijt, sitting in a confined space for hours with compromised skin creates ideal conditions for bacteria to multiply, potentially leading to spots, rashes, or even infections.

For holidaymakers who still want to be hair-free on arrival, she recommends planning beauty treatments carefully.

I’m a bikini waxer – stop being embarrassed about being hairy & no, I don’t care if you’ve got lumps or bumps down there

“Preparation is the only way you can avoid complications from waxing. This means booking your appointments well ahead and applying moisturizers before leaving the house for the airport.”

“Get your waxing done at least 48 hours before your flight. This gives your skin adequate time to recover and those open pores to close,” she advises.

She also suggests applying a gentle, fragrance-free moisturizer before the flight to create a protective barrier.

Airports can be bacteria breeding ground for freshly waxed skin

“Our hands contact multiple surfaces in airports, planes, taxis, buses, and cafes. We then inevitably touch our skin with those hands, breeding with bacteria.

“You can use hand sanitizer generously and often, but bacteria are on surfaces you might sit on or accidentally touch.

“While you cannot exactly cover a waxed upper lip or brow, you could swap shorts for loose trousers and tank tops for airy, long-sleeved shirts to give your fragile skin an extra layer of protection from unsanitary surfaces and your own contaminated hands.”

The expert noted that wearing loose, comfortable clothing on the flight is essential if you have recently had a wax, particularly for sensitive areas.

“Tight clothing creates friction and traps heat and moisture, which can lead to irritation or folliculitis, when your hair follicles become inflamed,” she explains. “Opt for cotton for avoid sweating and maximize your skin’s ability to breathe.”

Last-minute waxing can cause rashes

If you are used to waxing as your preferred hair removal method, you may be reluctant to consider alternatives or combinations thereof.

“Many travelers now opt for a waxing appointment a few days before their flight and pack a small razor for touch-ups if needed during their holiday,” she says.

“If you travel often or want longer-lasting results, treatments like laser hair removal might be worth considering. Unlike waxing, once a course of laser treatments is complete, there is no need to worry about last-minute hair removal before flights.

How to prepare for a bikini wax

IF you’re thinking of booking a bikini wax, here’s how you can prepare.

Choose the Right Time: Schedule your appointment at least a week after your menstrual cycle when your pain threshold is higher.

Exfoliate: Gently exfoliate the bikini area a day or two before your wax to remove dead skin cells and prevent ingrown hairs.

Trim Hair: Ensure hair is about 1/4 inch long; if it’s longer, trim it down for a smoother waxing process.

Avoid Caffeine and Alcohol: Steer clear of caffeine and alcohol on the day of your appointment as they can tighten pores and increase sensitivity.

Take a Pain Reliever: Consider taking an over-the-counter pain reliever about 30 minutes before your appointment to help minimise discomfort.

Wear Loose Clothing: Opt for loose-fitting clothes on the day of your waxing to avoid irritation post-treatment.

Communicate with Your Aesthetician: Don’t hesitate to discuss any concerns or questions with your aesthetician before the session begins.

Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water leading up to your appointment to keep your skin hydrated and more supple.

“Ultimately, if it is too late to plan more permanent hair removal options, your best bet is packing a good old set of fresh razors and, importantly, a new loofah or gentle brush to exfoliate your sensitive, sun-bathed skin before shaving,” Pruijt notes.

“You are better off putting in the extra effort of shaving daily than walking around with a waxed, sore rash you cannot control your entire vacation.”

Sun exposure can damage sensitive skin

Pruijt also advises taking extra care with sun exposure after both waxing and flying.

“Newly waxed or dehydrated skin makes you more susceptible to sun damage.

“You should avoid applying sunscreen on freshly irritated skin, which is why, if you do need to step out the following 24 hours, cover your skin with clothing rather than sunscreen, depending on the area. Wear trousers, long-sleeved tops, a wide-brimmed hat and trainers.

“Make sure you are extra vigilant with sunscreen once you reach your destination,” she warns.”

Watch moment that sparked bitter Katie Price and Princess feud as daughter makes modelling debut in Ibiza

THE exact moment that sparked Princess Andre’s feud with mum Katie Price was captured on camera as the teen made her modelling debut in Ibiza.

The mum and daughter duo, who are often hailed “twins” due to their lookalike appearance, are battling through a tricky patch in their relationship, as exclusively revealed by The Sun.

Katie, 47, told us she “feels like Brooklyn Beckham” – who is in the midst of a feud with his high-profile family – after being “isolated” by the teen, who has penned a host of influencer deals and bagged her own TV show.

Now scenes for the 18-year-old’s new TV show, The Princess Diaries, show her joining 24 other models on the catwalk in the White Isle.

She opts for a turquoise dress with bra top detail and a flowing skirt after a last minute outfit change which left her feeling anxious.

She toild the camera: “There’s a lot of models here I don’t really fit in.

“I feel really anxious, I can feel my face getting red.”

Yet after being asked to lead the array of models, Princess’ debut was hugely successful.

Her big brother Junior and his girlfriend Jazz were on hand to sip fizz and offer support inn the crowd.

As she wrapped the catwalk she cheered: “I did it i did it, I’m actually really glad I did it.

“It was a lot less intense than I thought.”

Watch the moment horrified Peter Andre reacts to ‘disgusting’ messages daughter Princess, 18 receives from men online

Yet at the same time as she was walking the runway, Katie was flashing her bum and new tattoos on the party island.

In a snap shared on EastEnders star Dean Gaffney‘s Instagram page, Katie could be seen partying with the former soap actor.

Standing in between Dean and pal Jamie O’Hara, Katie posed and pouted as the two men beamed.

A source told how the drama then played out between the pair as they were in the same location and said: “This should be a really exciting time for Princess but over the last couple of months her mum has been doing everything she can to take the limelight away from her.

Who is Princess Andre and what’s her job?

Princess Andre born June 29, 2007, is the daughter of Mysterious Girl singer Peter Andre and former glamour model Katie Price.

The pair also welcomed a son while they were together, Junior, born on June 13, 2005.

Katie and Peter then split in early 2009, with their divorce being finalised in October of the same year.

Princess also has six half siblings, four from Katie and two from Peter.

As of June 2024, Princess has an impressive 750,000 followers on her Instagram account, @officialprincess_andre.

Ahead of her 16th birthday, in June 2023, Princess opened up about what she wants to do with her future during a Q&A with fans and followers.

The teen said she is seeking out “financial freedom” through her beauty and fashion brand deals, as well as her own jewellery brand named ‘Sparkle’ by Princess Andre.

“Princess was booked to make her catwalk debut at the opening of the Ibiza Fashion Festival back in June, and what did Katie do?

“She flew out to Ibiza and made sure everyone knew she was there with daily stories and pictures with the likes of Wayne Lineker and Dean Gaffney. It’s embarrassing.”

They added to MailOnline: “What mother wouldn’t want to let their child have their time in the spotlight?

“These latest comments are going to really upset Princess.

“Nothing is private with Katie, it’s all about keeping herself in the limelight.”

Katie’s rep has been contacted for comment.

KATIE’S SNUB

ITV2 bosses reportedly told how Katie could not be a part of the series.

A source told The Sun of the family turmoil and said: “Katie feels isolated and disregarded.

“She loves Princess so much and is supremely proud of the young woman she is becoming.

“Princess told her mum that she needed to distance herself publicly and yet chats to her all the time behind closed doors.

“She feels a bit like Brooklyn Beckham, with no one in the Andre family really speaking to her.”

Katie and Peter started their relationship in 2004 after getting together on I’m A Celebrity . . . Get Me Out Of Here!.

They had Junior and Princess during their four-year marriage.

But their relationship fell apart in 2009 and they divorced.

SHOW SNUB

Princess is said to be hoping to show fans a different side to her with her brand new fly-on-the-wall series.

Despite Katie not getting a look-in, the programme will feature her dad and his wife Emily, according to MailOnline.

A source said: “Katie will not be in Princess’s show, the decision has been made and it’s final.

“Princess loves her mum, and they have a great relationship, but the show is all about her work and home life.

“Television bosses were adamant that nothing was to be ‘staged’ to include Katie as it would not be a real and truthful insight into her life.”

STRAINED RELATIONSHIP

It comes after Princess admitted this month she “wishes she had a happier childhood.”

The TikTok star also addressed the “dark times” while she was growing up.

While Princess was too young to really remember her parents together, she has traumatic memories of the breakdown of Katie’s third marriage to Kieran Hayler.

In her new ITV2 series – The Princess Diaries – the teen opens up about her younger years and admits: “I did have a counsellor, I do still see her every now and then.

“But I don’t feel like I can really talk, so I just write everything down in my notes.”

She also revealed the sick messages she gets from men when she reveals her figure on social media – leaving dad Peter shocked.

For his part, he stood by his eldest daughter as they posed in a new snap taken on holiday.

Rochelle Humes reaches out to Frankie Bridge amid Myleene Klass feud after Wimbledon snub and cryptic swipes

ROCHELLE Humes appears to have offered an olive branch to Frankie Bridge amid the pair’s feud and Wimbledon snub.

The Sun previously revealed friction behind-the-scenes with This Morning anchor Rochelle, 36, and her The Saturdays co-star Frankie, 36.

Mum of two Frankie, 36, recently posted a cryptic “you’re dead to me” upload after the pair kept their distance at Wimbledon.

Meanwhile, Rochelle – who was in The Saturdays band with Frankie since 2007 – uploaded an equally thought-provoking message about “choosing partners wisely.”

Frankie’s mystery message was also also posted after her feud with Myleene Klass came to light – after a row over the Hear’Say singer’s “cheating” ex.

We then reported how ITV has stepped in to manage strained relations between Frankie, Rochelle, and Myleene.

Yet now Rochelle has appeared to support Frankie in a rare move, hitting the heart-shaped like button on her recent Instagram upload.

It showed the Loose Women panelist stripping to a patterned bikini as she soaked up the sunshine in the Maldives.

While the pair still follow each other on Instagram, Rochelle’s like is a rare move amid their feud – as they rarely publicly support each others’ posts.

The Up singers haven’t liked each others’ uploads in years, and there have been no likes or comment exchanges between the pair since 2013.

This could mean they were wiped if one of them had blocked the other.

TOUGH TIMES

Recently, The Sun reported how ITV has stepped into manage relations between Frankie, Rochelle, and Myleene.

Frankie Bridge says ‘you’re dead to me’ in cryptic post after revealing secret feud

All three former pop stars now work as Daytime presenters at ITV.

They were all once close, with Loose Women hosts Myleene and Frankie attending Rochelle’s hen do back in 2012.

However, Rochelle and Frankie remained friends with their former bodyguard and Myleene’s ex husband Graham Quinn.

Rochelle even posted snaps with Graham in Ibiza earlier this week.

Marvin and Rochelle Humes Career Highlights

Singers and presenters Marvin and Rochelle Humes have enjoyed successes both together and individually. Here are some of their biggest highlights.

  • S Club Junior/S Club 8: Early in her career, Rochelle was a member of this S Club 7 spin-off group. All of the original members were either early teens or younger when joining the band. They disbanded in 2005.
  • VS: The brainchild of Blue singer Simon Webbe, a pre-JLS Marvin featured in this group from 2004 to 2005. Although not a member himself, Webbe also managed the band.
  • The Saturdays: Rochelle joined the English-Irish girl band in 2007, along with Frankie Bridge, Vanessa White, Una Healy and Mollie King, following auditions. The group began an indefinite hiatus in 2014, although each of the members have moved on to other ventures.
  • JLS: After leaving VS, Marvin met Oritsé Williams through mutual friends, forming the beginning of what became JLS. Adding Aston Merrygold and JB Gill, the group famously auditioned for The X-Factor in 2008. JLS finished as runners-up to Alexandra Burke and initially disbanded in 2013. They later reunited from 2020 onwards.
  • This Morning: The couple were regular stand-in presenters on the ITV daytime show up until 2015.
  • The Voice: Marvin hosted series three through five of The Voice alongside Emma Willis on BBC One. The show later moved to BBC One, without Marvin continuing on.
  • The Hit List: Marvin and Rochelle began presenting this music-themed game show in 2019. The programme’s success has seen both civilians and celebrities take part.
  • I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!: Marvin participated in the 2023 series of the beloved show. He starred alongside the likes of Josie Gibson, Tony Bellew, Nigel Farage and Fred Sirieix. In the end Sam Thompson was crowned King of the Jungle.

In 2013, soon after Myleene’s divorce from Quinn, guests at the Glamour Women of the Year awards saw her storm over to Frankie after believing she had been blanked.

A source said: “Myleene seemed to take that as Frankie taking sides with Graham because of their working relationship.”

Meanwhile, Frankie and Myleene have not appeared on Loose Women together since an “awkward” episode last December.

Sources said that though they’d rather not be on together, they are professionals and do their best to make things work.

Tensions between the trio could well have heightened after Graham hit back at Myleene this weekend, blasting allegations of his “cheating.”

WIMBLEDON WOE

Frankie and Rochelle snubbed each other at Wimbledon last month, after a 24-year friendship.

Then this week, I’m A Celeb star Frankie shared a TikTok about falling out with a friend.

A caption written over the clip read: “You’re so quiet…

“Thanks, you said something five years ago and I’ve just realised you’re actually dead to me.”

British Airways, easyJet flights to Spain new disruption ahead – dates and times

Travellers could face issues and delays on their trips after further strike action was announced which will take place on set days and times

Holidaymakers going to Spain are facing a fresh blow as new strikes have been announced affecting major airports and airlines across parts of the country. The UGT union previously stated there will be a series of strikes affecting Ryanair’s baggage handling department.

These are set to start on August 15. However there is now increased potential for delays and flight cancellations after 1,500 workers with a second firm, Menzies, said it would hold its own industrial action, which will also start in August.

Menzies services a number of major airlines including British Airways, easyJet, Wizz Air, American Airlines, Turkish Airlines, Emirates and Norwegian. The UGT union said the strike by ground staff of the Menzies group will affect five Spanish airports, including Barcelona-El Prat, Alicante, Palma, Malaga and Tenerife South, on August 16, 17, 23, 24, 30 and 31.

In a statement the union explained it is objecting to what it says are “serious and repeated breaches of labour agreements and the conditions established by agreement” by Menzies. Amongst these “violations”, UGT highlights “salary breaches, violation of subrogation rights, disorganisation in working hours and schedules.”

The union also claims there have been “constant errors in the management of personnel and payroll”, reports the Express. It also argues that there is a shortage of staff to handle the workload and an “arbitrary imposition of holidays.”

It claims Menzies is in breach of the sectoral handling agreement, the company’s own agreement, and the sectoral agreement ratified by the Interconfederal Mediation and Arbitration Service (SIMA) in December 2024, which led to the cancellation of a previous strike. The union has already called for multiple strikes in Ryanair’s handling department.

These are set for the peak holiday season when Spain is brimming with tourists. This strike, which involves more than 3,000 workers who load and unload luggage, will be held this week – on Friday, August 15, Saturday, August 16, and Sunday, August 17 and then every Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

The Ryanair strikes could continue until next January unless an agreement can be reached. However legally, the workers must provide a “minimum service” which is yet to be determined, but the action will still significantly affect travellers.

A plane in the air
The strikes could affect travellers significantly

The union says those protests are “against the sanctions imposed on workers and the abuse of hours.” Ryanair’s bases are situated in Valencia, Alicite, Madrid, Barcelona, Seville, Malaga, Ibiza, Palma, Girona, Tenerife South, Lanzarote and Santiago.

The strike at Azul Handling (Ryanair’s handling subsidiary) is set for August 15, 16 and 17 and will continue every Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday until at least December 31, as confirmed by the UGT in a statement. The actions could potentially extend into January.

The strike will take place between 5am and 9am, noon and 3pm and 9pm to 11.59pm. The FeSMC-UGT airline sector is requesting mediation before the Interconfederal Mediation and Arbitration Service (SIMA).

The union has said the reasons for the strike call. It says these are:

  • Lack of stable job creation and consolidation of working hours for permanent part-time staff
  • Imposition and coercion in the performance of complementary hours, both ordinary and voluntary, apply in some cases, with disproportionate sanctions
  • Repeated failure to comply with the opinions of the Joint Committee of the Sectoral Agreement on guarantees and bonuses
  • Illegal restrictions on reinstatement after medical discharge and on the adaptation of working hours to exercise the right to family conciliation

It says: “UGT regrets having to go to these extremes and all the damages that may occur, for which the direct responsibility will be solely and exclusively the company and its reckless action with the workforce.”

Jose Manuel Perez Grande, Federal Secretary of the FeSMC-UGT Air Union, has accused Azul Handling of maintaining “a strategy of precariousness and pressure on the workforce that violates basic labour rights and systematically ignores union demands.”

The FeSMC-UGT Air Sector is calling for the company to withdraw the sanctions, stick to the recommendations of the Joint Commission, and start a real negotiation process aimed at enhancing the working conditions for over 3,000 employees across the country.

Alert issued to anyone who plays mobile phone games while travelling abroad

Holidaymakers have been urged to stop using their mobile phones for one thing at the airport. According to gaming expert, Dmitry Kandratsyeu, the mistake could be “costly”

It emerged yesterday the US government had ordered its embassies in Dublin and around the world to halt new visa interviews for foreign students
There’s one thing you really need to avoid doing (stock image)(Image: Getty)

While many of us love the thought of going on holiday, sometimes the airport experience can be quite stressful. From the queues to worrying if you have everything packed – all sorts of things cross your mind when you travel, which means it’s not always an easy process; however, an expert has warned there’s one activity you may want to steer clear of.

It you’re hoping for a peaceful and stress-free flight there’s one thing you may want to avoid doing at the airport to make your air travel experience a lot better. It’s advice you could really want to follow if you’re known to use your mobile phone a lot, as it could actually have a big impact on your journey.

With holiday season in full swing at the moment, there are all sorts of viral tips doing the rounds. But, when it comes to looking after yourself, and your tech, there’s vital advice people need to be aware of.

Games expert Dmitry Kandratsyeu, Head of Product at Solitaires.com, explained: “As a games expert with an interest in gaming habits, I’ve noticed that a lot of popular mobile games are designed to keep your brain on high alert. Fast-reaction titles like Candy Crush, Stack or Duet are all about quick thinking, bright visuals and constant rewards. It’s a recipe for staying engaged, but also for feeling overstimulated.

“In my view, when you play these kinds of games for long stretches during a flight, you’re not giving your mind much chance to switch off. Instead of helping you unwind, they can leave you feeling wired and restless. Your brain is processing rapid taps, colourful animations and pop-up messages all at once.

“That flood of stimulation doesn’t exactly set you up for a smooth nap or an easy adjustment to a new time zone, which can have a negative effect on jet lag symptoms.”

A woman traveler checks her mobile phone in front of the airport's flight information board, preparing for her upcoming solo journey.
An expert has issued vital advice (stock image)(Image: Hinterhaus Productions via Getty Images)

The expert added: “There’s also the matter of blue light from your phone or tablet. Research has shown that blue light can suppress melatonin, the hormone that helps signal when it’s time to sleep.

“Combined with cabin lighting and the general disruption of your usual sleep routine, it’s easy to see how hours of fast-paced gameplay could make jet lag feel even worse.

“Of course, games can be a great way to pass the time on a long-haul flight. But it pays to think about what kind of experience you’re choosing. I’d recommend mixing in slower-paced options like Solitaire, word puzzles or audiobooks.

“These still help you stay occupied, but they don’t demand the same intense focus. If you do prefer fast-action games, try limiting your sessions and giving your eyes and brain regular breaks. Even something simple – like turning off your screen an hour before landing – can help you feel calmer and more rested when you step off the plane.

“Ultimately, it comes down to balance. Games are a fantastic way to make travel feel shorter but, in my opinion, it’s wise to be aware of how certain titles affect your mental state.

“Even just switching off your screen an hour before landing could make you feel noticeably more refreshed and ready to adjust to your destination.”

So, there you have it, how you use your phone at the airport can actually hinder your travel experience, espeically if you play games. While fast-paced games can overstimulate your brain, making it harder to relax during a flight, bright screens and quick reaction gameplay may disrupt your body’s natural sleep cues.

Choosing calmer games or offline puzzles could help you wind down and arrive feeling fresher, which means they are often the better choice if you feel the need to keep your brain active.

Horror as body of woman found chained ‘by the neck’ and dumped underwater tied down with two dumbbells

A WOMAN’S body has been found chained by the neck and tied underwater with two concrete dumbbells at a popular fishing pier in Thailand.

The horror discovery was made after stunned locals spotted the corpse floating close to shore.

The body was found on Friday near Ban Tha Yai pier in Phang Nga’s Mueang district.

Police Lieutenant Pheerawit Chaichanyut of Khok Kloi Police Station said officers rushed to the scene with Kusoltham Foundation rescue workers after receiving an emergency call.

The victim – whose identity, address, and nationality are still unknown – was wearing grey shorts and a brown round-neck T-shirt.

Police believe she had been dead for around two days before being found in the murky waters.

A heavy chain had been wrapped tightly around her neck and secured to two concrete dumbbells in what investigators believe was a calculated attempt to keep the body hidden on the seabed.

But despite the grim effort, currents carried her to the surface and she drifted close to land.

“This is a serious case, and we are treating it as a possible murder,” Pol. Lt. Pheerawit said.

“The way the body was weighted down points towards an attempt to conceal it.”

The body has been sent for a full autopsy to determine the cause of death and whether the woman was alive before entering the water.

Local leaders and neighbouring districts have been told to check missing persons reports for anyone matching her description.

Cops will meanwhile scour CCTV from the pier and surrounding waterways for suspicious movements in the days before the grim find.

Anyone with information – particularly those who may have noticed unusual activity near Ban Tha Yai pier – is urged to contact police immediately.

The case echoes a similar discovery in February when a fisherman in Rayong found a woman’s decomposed body inside a locked suitcase weighted with two 10kg dumbbells.

Her identity also remains unknown.

A taste of Swedish island life – but on the mainland, near Stockholm | Sweden holidays

I moved to Stockholm from London for work a decade ago. As a newcomer with a passion for nature, I remember being eager to soak up the region’s archipelago of 30,000 islands and rocky outposts. But I was overwhelmed by complex public ferry timetables to dozens of places ending in the letter “ö” (the Swedish word for island) and uninterested in pricey cruise boats packed with tour groups.

Then a former flatmate recommended Nynäshamn, which is on the mainland but embodies much of the nature and spirit of Stockholm’s archipelago. It’s home to a tasteful waterfront of colourfully painted bars and restaurants and a harbour packed with boats every summer, from simple dinghies to luxury yachts. Beyond, you can look across a clean, calm stretch of Baltic Sea, towards the island of Bedarön, flanked by pine trees and a smattering of dark red detached houses.

Mention Nynäshamn to Stockholmers and most will probably describe it as the port you pass through to catch the four-hour ferry to Gotland – Sweden’s largest island – or an overnight cruise to Gdańsk in Poland. But for international tourists (or new Swedish residents, as I was), it is an entry-level coastal destination where you can get a taste of the city’s island life without the complex logistics.

Nynäshamn is on the commuter rail line from central Stockholm, and reachable in an hour. A one-way journey costs 43 kroner (£3.30), or it’s free if you have a valid monthly or weekly pass for the capital’s public transport system. For a little more adventure, it takes a further 30 minutes to reach Nåttarö, the closest island accessible by a public ferry service (£8 each way).

Nynäshamn’s pleasures are just an hour by train from Stockholm. Photograph: Zoonar/Alamy

My first destination in Nynäshamn is Trehörningen, an island suburb accessible by bridge, and just a 30-minute stroll from the train station. The route takes in a mishmash of glassy new-build apartments, low-rise 1960s rent-controlled flats and mansions with manicured gardens. Nynäshamn doesn’t have the swagger of swankier seaside towns in the region, such as Sandhamn or Saltsjöbaden, but it offers a slice of real-life small town Sweden far removed from the well-trodden tourist itineraries that typically lead to Stockholm’s medieval Old Town or isolated rural retreats.

“It’s very good for my health,” says Hans “Hasse” Larsson, a smiley 73-year-old former truck driver who moved to Nynäshamn from Stockholm 16 years ago. He enjoys the clean air and quiet lifestyle, and describes a stronger sense of community compared with the somewhat stiffer Swedish capital. “Even if you don’t know people very well, you’ll say ‘hej’!” he laughs.

Sweden isn’t a budget destination, but thanks to a favourable exchange rate, prices aren’t extortionate compared with those in popular British seaside destinations I’ve visited, such as Brighton or St Ives. On Trehörningen island, it costs from just over £100 a night to rent a compact wooden cottage for two from Oskarsgatan 12 B&B. A breakfast buffet and spa entry package at the nearby Nynäs Havsbad hotel works out at around £45. The spa’s pavilion is a reconstruction of an art nouveau-inspired resort built in 1906, complete with an outdoor hot tub, a sauna and panoramic views. The hotel complex includes original buildings from the early 20th century, when it was a base for sailors during the 1912 Stockholm Olympic Games.

From here, it’s a short walk to Strandvägen, a French riviera-inspired waterfront road built for spectators of sailing. As locals will proudly tell you, it is the only place in the Stockholm archipelago region where you can see the horizon from the mainland. The scenic route winds towards Lövhagen, a wooded area offering shady trails and picnic tables. There are rocky swimming coves too – although, with average outdoor temperatures of 18C in July and August, the chilly waters won’t be to everyone’s taste.

The spa pavilion of the Nynäs Havsbad hotel is a reconstruction of a 1906 art nouveau-inspired resort

For walkers, Nynäshamn is also a gateway to Sörmlandsleden, a system of hiking trails covering around 620 miles in total and clearly marked with orange arrows and painted tree markers. Section 5:1 from Nynäshamn passes through mossy forests and grassy farmland to the village of Osmö, where you can catch a train back to Nynäshamn or continue another nine miles to Hemfosa, snaking past Lake Muskan’s glistening waters.

Back at Nynäshamn’s main harbour, the restaurants are filling up with tourists hungry for lunch. The most famous spot is Nynäs Rökeri, a smokehouse dating back almost 40 years, where a platter of smoked salmon, seafood and potato salad costs less than £20. The adjacent delicatessen stocks fresh fish and classic Swedish treats, from cheesy västerbotten pie to crispbreads and lingonberry jam. A nearby courtyard is shared with customers visiting the ice-cream store Lejonet & Björnen, a small cafe and a gift shop.

The sweet smell of cinnamon wafts in the air and I spot the familiar logo of Skeppsbro Bageri, an award-winning Stockholm bakery that has a food truck parked on the waterfront, packed with fresh bread, buns and pastries. “I like it here,” says Emelie Elison, the 24-year-old student who is working in the van for her third summer in a row. “There are a lot of people and there’s always something happening.”

Sweden’s cities empty out in July, as locals flock to the coast to spend the summer in wooden holiday cottages. There are more than 600,000 of these holiday homes, known as fritidshus, which are often passed down through generations; almost half of children with at least one Swedish parent have access to one. They also have plenty of time to enjoy them – most Swedish employees are entitled to four consecutive weeks off each summer.

After a grey morning, the sun comes out as I join the ferry queue for Nåttarö. Many around me are armed with bags of groceries, backpacks and even suitcases, intending to stay at least a week. But one sporty-looking couple, carrying only tiny running backpacks, tell me they are fellow day-trippers from Stockholm, planning to run a six-mile loop of the Stockholm Archipelago Trail, a newly marked hiking and trail-running route stretching 167 miles across 20 islands.

Most tourists visiting Nåttarö take things at a slower pace. It’s a small, car-free island with one simple convenience store and two restaurants by the harbour. The main draws are the pine-lined walking trails, rocky clifftops and sandy beaches. There are 50 wooden cabins for hire (sleeping up to six people, £90 a night). The campsite is priced at less than £5 a night, including access to pristine showers, compost toilets and dishwashing facilities. Wild camping is allowed too, thanks to allemansrätten, Sweden’s right to roam policy.

I take a 1¼-mile trail to Skarsand, a small beach in the north-east of the island. I have fond memories of celebrating a friend’s 40th birthday here a couple of years ago, when we camped with friends and their kids, cooking dinner on the beach’s public grill. Today, despite being peak holiday season, I have it all to myself, save for some passing hikers.

The sunny afternoon passes quickly, and a couple of hours later I’m back on the ferry for Nynäshamn. The Stockholm pair have made it too, having successfully completed their run. They are eagerly awaiting a pizza reward at Maggan’s, another popular restaurant in Nynäshamn’s harbour, and tell me they’ve squeezed clean T-shirts into their backpacks to change into. I’m planning a sunny evening drink on the waterfront too. Tomorrow I’ll be at my desk, catching up on emails – and researching my next coastal adventure.

Travel expert issues urgent Turkey warning to Brits heading abroad

As medical tourism in Turkey has become more popular among Brits for its accessibility and cheaper prices, an expert has warned against the risks of seeking medical and cosmetic procedures abroad

Embargoed to 0001 Saturday August 1.

While cosmetic trips to Turkey have become the newest craze among British holidaymakers since the pandemic, a travel expert has warned that this can come with serious risks.

Simon Hood, travel expert and Executive Director of John Mason International, warns that foreign medical procedures come with their own dangers. This comes after an estimated nearly 250,000 Brits opted for foreign medical care in 2019, citing that the UK was too expensive and had wait times beyond their expectations, according to ITIJ.

Turkey has become a prime destination for medical tourism. Particularly in Antalya and Istanbul, clinics and hotspots have become renowned for providing ‘medical tourism packages’. This includes offering all-in-one inclusive quotes to patients, with luxury perks like chauffeurs from the airport, hotel stays and even travel between appointments.

Plus, there is a sizable disparity in prices. Costs for ‘Turkey teeth’ typically cost 40% to 60% cheaper than surgery in the UK. For example, a set of veneers in the UK can cost around a staggering £9,000, while practices in Turkey offer sets from anywhere between £1,500 to £2,400 according to Adalya.

However, Simon Hood warns that these cheaper rates often come with their own risks. He also cautions against taking social media videos at face value.

He says: “Turkey teeth procedures and other cosmetic work can be quite the risk. We’ve all seen the glossy videos on social media with TikTokers promoting practices during the summer, but you need to double-check the practice you’re planning on attending is board-certified.”

He continues: “In Turkey, regulations vary slightly from the UK, but any practice or clinic can be recognised by international organisations like the Joint Commission International, or JCI. Having this recognition can help assure you that your deal is both safe and indeed a bargain.”

Simon also recommends researching whether the surgeons of your local practice have membership of the Turkish Society of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (TSPRAS).

This follows thousands of medical tourists each year, who receive care below what would be considered safe practice in the UK, often resulting in medical issues down the road.

A recent audit by the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons has called for government action, with more than 300 Brits now requiring corrective surgery following their ‘cosmetic vacations’ abroad.

On the back of this, Simon urges his clients as well as others travelling to Turkey to do their research. He explains: “Turkey is notorious for its underground medical tourism, with people flocking in hope of getting a quick and cheap deal. But it doesn’t work like that; cheap cosmetic work could result in serious issues.”

“That’s why we’re recommending to all clients at John Mason International, or otherwise, that they need to do the appropriate research and make sure practices and surgeons have the best accreditations available.”

I visited a picturesque hidden gem just 10 minutes away from the capital of Santorini

Santorini has been described as one of the most beautiful islands in the world, but is it worth a visit? I took a trip to the popular Greek island to find out.

Vothonas, Santorini
I visited a picturesque hidden gem just 10 minutes away from the capital of Santorini

Santorini, with its unique beauty and geological marvels, is far from overrated in my opinion. The island’s breathtaking landscape was shaped by one of history’s most significant volcanic eruptions, resulting in towering cliffs encircling a caldera, atop which sit traditional Greek towns painted in white, boasting stunning sea views.

The dreamy images of Santorini that most people conjure up are likely of Oia or Fira, the island’s capital. As my friends and I began planning our trip, we discovered how these two locations were often bustling with tourists. To escape the flurry of tourists, we opted to stay in two lesser-known towns, both brimming with charm and beauty.

Our visit to Santorini took place in July, at the height of summer, when the island was teeming with visitors and the scorching sun left us nursing some rather painful burns.

Despite the crowds, Santorini lived up to its reputation as a picturesque paradise, just as it appears in countless social media posts. However, it’s worth noting that other towns on the island were significantly less crowded than Oia and Fira.

Oia, Santorini is a picturesque village perched on the cliffs of Greece’s famed volcanic island.
Oia’s many cliffside buildings all offer gorgeous views of the deep-blue ocean(Image: Getty/Nick Brundle Photography)
Paths of Oia are packed with tourists
It almost felt suffocating when we walked around the popular spots

Perched on the rim of an extinct volcano, Oia offers stunning views of the azure ocean from its many cliffside buildings. This is the Santorini you’ve seen on Pinterest.

However, Oia is often so crowded that it can feel claustrophobic when navigating the popular spots. Snapping photos without queuing or being surrounded by people was challenging, but not impossible.

Just a 20-minute journey from Oia will land you in Fira. The cliffside walks offer breathtaking views, and there are plenty of nooks to explore, along with intriguing shops and eateries to try out.

Here, blue church domes rise majestically against a backdrop of white, and as long as you’re appropriately dressed, you can sneak a peek inside some of Fira’s numerous churches.

The broader streets are frequently teeming with visitors – the square outside the cathedral can become jam-packed – but veer off the busier routes and you’ll find serene, shaded pathways where only a few cats wander.

Fira views
The walks along the cliffside provided incredible views of Fira

To avoid the hustle and bustle of Santorini, we opted to stay in Vothonas and Perissa instead of Oia and Fira, which turned out to be a brilliant decision. Given the less-than-stellar public transport in these areas, we rented a car, making the entire island easily accessible.

Vothonas, a mere 10 minutes from Fira, is a charming traditional Greek village with hardly any tourists. If you’re seeking a tranquil and relaxing holiday setting, this is the place to be.

The village is nestled in a picturesque ravine and features traditional houses carved into rocks. A leisurely walk around the paved lanes reveals white-domed churches and traditional homes.

If you’re on the hunt for scrumptious, genuine Greek cuisine bursting with flavour, Vothonaki in Vothonas is a must-visit. We stumbled upon this hidden gem thanks to a local’s recommendation.

Greek food, gyros, tzatziki, lamb pasta
Visit Vothonaki in Vothonas for delicious, authentic Greek food that’s full of flavour

Should you choose to lodge here, I’d suggest renting a car or quad bike for commuting, as taxis can be pricey and buses are few and far between.

A mere 20-minute drive south-east will land you in the coastal village of Perissa, boasting a unique blend of warm local hospitality, a tranquil beachfront promenade, and mouth-watering Greek fare. With more attractions than Vothonas, Perissa offers all the essentials for a laid-back yet entertaining holiday.

Perissa Beach
Perissa Beach is perfect for a lazy day of sunbathing and relaxation

Perissa Beach is an idyllic spot for a leisurely day of sun-soaking and unwinding. The landscape is striking, featuring black sand and deep blue, crystal-clear waters.

Crucially, its location, shielded by Mesa Vouno hill, ensures calm, inviting waters for swimming and shields it from the often strong Santorini winds, even in July.

My overall impression of Santorini is that, while undoubtedly a tourist hotspot, its popularity is well-deserved. However, I can understand how some might overlook this if they don’t adequately plan their island visit.

Santorini has reportedly experienced a drop in visitor numbers this year, particularly following a series of earthquakes earlier this year between January and February. Nonetheless, I believe it’s certainly a destination worth adding to your bucket list.

If you’re seeking a scenic and tranquil getaway to Santorini, I’d strongly suggest lodging in the smaller towns, arranging your own transport and meticulously planning your journey.

House hunters spot something very odd in pictures of 3-bed terraced house – but would YOU have spotted it?

SOMETHING isn’t quite right about this picture of a lovely looking three bedroom house listed for sale.

Those advertising the family home have been accused of “pulling a fast one” by neighbours since it was listed.

But there are some not-so subtle differences hereCredit: Roseberry Newhouse

The property in Stockton-on-Tees, Durham, has allegedly been subject of some creative photo editing to boost its appeal.

It’s listed on Rightmove for £350,000, where an initial illustration showed it looking in top notch condition.

The house’s exterior looks neatly done up for the cameras, boasting a tidy front drive and small hedgerow.

But eagle-eyed observers have since suggested that the image – which no longer appears on the Rightmove posting – may be AI enhanced.

The Daily Mail reported from the site of the house to find it looking in vastly different condition.

Gone is the charming shrubbery next to the property, which is instead a fence next to a beauty studio.

The vibe of the photo taken from the scene was rather different to the spruced up image presented in the advert.

After running the original picture through AI checkers, the Daily Mail reported that the image may have been doctored.

One site told them: “We are quite confident that this image, or significant part of it, was created by AI.”

The Rightmove listing also offered a 360 degree view showing the nearby Eaglescliffe railway station.

UK weather: Storm Floris to batter Britain with 85mph winds as Met Office issues yellow warning over ‘danger to life’

But the publication also found that the station is under noisy redevelopment at time of writing.

Other images in the listing show spacious looking rooms throughout the house – which all appear in smart condition.

A man who claimed to be the property’s owner pulled up in a Porsche and confronted the Mail reporter while they were at the site.

When they explained their findings, he reportedly told them: “I think you will find a lot of adverts do that now.

“You are not allowed on the property but do what you want to. You don’t need my name.”

One neighbour told the Mail: “They are pulling a fast one. It’s a laugh. The price is shocking.

“It has been empty for a while. I cannot believe it.

“They have faked it all. It is a bit overpriced even though they have done it up.

“An old fellow used to live there but it has been empty since he died and I don’t think the estate agents have had a lot of interest- especially at that price.”

But another told them: “It does not bother me. Who cares?

“If you are going to view it you are going to see what it is like anyway.”

A spokesperson for Roseberry Wood said: “Please be assured there was no intention to deceive in our marketing of the property.

“The listing clearly states that some images have been virtually staged to enhance presentation.”

They pointed to text from the listing, which reads: “This property advertisement includes a combination of original interior photographs and virtually staged images (provided by the vendor) of the same rooms to illustrate potential lifestyle and living arrangements.”

The spokesperson added: “Virtually staged or CGI images are not uncommon in property marketing and are a recognised tool within the industry to help potential buyers visualise a home’s possibilities.

“We take compliance very seriously and ensure that our property listings contain clear links to Material Facts so that prospective buyers have access to all relevant information before making a decision to view or purchase.”

Rightmove was contacted by The Sun for comment.

Kemi Badenoch throws down gauntlet to Keir Starmer and demands no stealth taxes on Brits

KEMI Badenoch has thrown down the gauntlet to Keir Starmer on the economy demanding no stealth taxes on Brits.

The Tory leader has written to the Prime Minister saying “tax rises are a choice”.

She has challenged him to repeat Chancellor Rachel Reeves’ promise at the Budget last year not to extend the freeze on income tax and National Insurance thresholds.

Failing to end the freeze as planned in 2028 would mean millions more Brits are forced into paying a higher rate of tax under fiscal drag.

This is when people are pulled into higher income tax brackets as inflation pushes their wages up.

It comes after a bombshell report said the Chancellor must find £50billion in her autumn Budget to keep the country’s finances in check.

She will have to raise taxes or cut spending to maintain her stated financial cushion of £9.9billion by the end of the decade, according to the National Institute of Economic and Social Research.

At the Budget, Ms Reeves said: “Extending the threshold freeze would hurt working people.

“It would take more money out of their payslips.

“I am keeping every single promise on tax that I made in our manifesto, so there will be no extension of the freeze in income tax and national insurance thresholds.”

Ms Badenoch asked the PM: “I am writing to you to ask: does this remain government policy?”

A Labour spokesperson said: “We’ll take no lectures from this failed Tory Party.

“They crashed the economy which sent bills and mortgages rocketing, and left a £22 billion blackhole.

“Kemi Badenoch’s next letter should be an apology to hard-pressed households for the Conservatives’ role in hammering their family finances.

“Labour is the only party focused on creating a fairer Britain.”

The West must pressure Putin to end illegal war… and that means there can be no place for Russian oil on European soil

UKRAINE’S fight against Putin’s illegal invasion is vital for all of Europe.

The Ukrainian people are fighting bravely for their freedom, their independence and their rights.

But American security is on the line there, as well as British and European security.

That is why we and European allies have been providers of military aid to Ukraine.

And we recognise the indispensable role of the US in that.

It is also why President Trump’s recent decision to make more weapons available for Ukraine’s brave resistance is very welcome.

And we share the President’s frustration with Putin’s continual delaying tactics and maximalist demands.

It is clear that Putin is not negotiating in good faith.

Tighten screws

The pressure must continue to grow on Putin, to make clear that this awful war, and his wanton campaign of aggression, must come to an end.

As the UK and US get down to hard talks ahead of next week’s summit, Europe must ramp up the pressure, too.

We, as HM Opposition, will not write the Government a blank cheque.

But we stand squarely with them in defending our national interest and that means resisting Putin’s illegal war.

Nazi lies, Vlad’s propaganda & troops on border… chilling signs Putin ready to invade ANOTHER European nation after Ukraine

Russia has so far failed to achieve its war objectives.

It has suffered enormous casualties and, in desperation, Putin has had to turn to Iran for weapons and North Korea for troops.

Three years on, and despite what Russia claims, the cost to its economy has been enormous and is unsustainable.

I am proud the Conservative government, working with allies, helped to drive forward the largest and most severe set of sanctions Russia has ever seen to cripple Putin’s war machine.

Through the tough and wide-ranging sanctions delivered by the international community, Putin has been denied $400billion of funds since February 2022 — money that could otherwise have been spent on this illegal war.

But we cannot stop here. The screws must continue to tighten.

Pulling in the same direction

The US is right that we need all the world’s major economies to be pulling in the same direction.

President Trump’s tariffs on India in part show that there can be no place for Russian oil.

Europe must adopt the same approach.

There can be no place for Russian oil on our continent. There must be no safe harbour for Russian ships.

There must be no let-up in our collective fight against Russia in every corner of the continent.

That is why Britain must continue to maintain a leadership position in this fight.

We must take the lead in mobilising sanctioned Russian sovereign assets to help Ukraine.

We must ensure our Government is using the full weight of the Whitehall legal machine to find more creative mechanisms through which those assets can be legally leveraged to support Ukraine’s military efforts.

And we must encourage all our European partners to do exactly the same.

It is clear that by leveraging our full economic might, and crippling Russia’s, we can continue to support Ukraine, and force Putin to the table.

The entire Euro-Atlantic alliance must be unflinching in the face of Putin’s aggression.

From sanctions, to Operation Interflex and the 100-year Partnership, Britain’s support for Ukraine has been unwavering and must continue to be so.

Shoulder to shoulder

So we must stand up for the territorial integrity of Ukraine and ensure that at no stage is Putin’s aggression rewarded.

Because the lesson of the past 20 years is crystal clear: Putin only comes back for more.

We must stand shoulder to shoulder with our Ukrainian friends as they fight not just an imperialist Russian, but a whole axis of authoritarian states seeking to sow destruction on our own continent.

Ukraine is in a battle for its own sovereignty as well as the principles that underpin our whole way of life — democracy, liberty and the rule of law.

Britain has a history of standing up to threatening authoritarianism.

The invasion of Ukraine demands that we do so again.

We must keep rising to the challenge.

Putin has to know that if he tests the Euro-Atlantic alliance, he will fail.

Arsenal ratings: Viktor Gyokeres shows threat for Gunners while Bukayo Saka shines but Riccardo Calafiori causes concern

VIKTOR GYOKERES got his eye in and his first Arsenal goal in the Emirates Cup win over Atletico Bilbao.

It was the last opportunity for the striker and the club’s other new signings to impress the fans before the season starts.

And Gyokeres, 27, made his mark on the game as he scored the opening goal at the Emirates.

It would have been a relief for the Swede to see the net bulge as he had squandered chances beforehand.

Arsenal‘s second came just moments later after a brilliant passage move led to Bukayo Saka tapping into an empty net.

The only thing is that the Gunners’ players will be hoping the Emirates Cup is not the only trophy they lift this season.

In the irrelevant penalty shootout after the game Adama Boiro missed the crucial spotkick as Arsenal won that too.

Here’s how SunSport reporter Henry Tomlinson rated the Arsenal players…

David Raya – 6

A comfortable outing for the goalkeeper, who had little to do but dealt with what did come his way.

Made a key save in the shootout and went the right way for a lot of them.

Riccardo Calafiori 45′ – 4

Almost gifted Bilbao the lead in the 16th minute as his weak pass in the Arsenal box was cut out by Íñigo Ruiz de Galarreta – who was denied by Raya.

Going forward, he blazed over from the edge of the box after being presented with a great opportunity when the game was goalless.

Was subbed off at half time for Ben White.

William Saliba – 6

Like Raya, was a reasonably quiet game for the centre-back with little threat coming from Bilbao.

The Frenchman will be hoping for a similar requirement when Arsenal face Manchester United next Sunday.

Took a brilliant penalty in the shootout.

Gabriel Magalhaes 62′ – 6

Gabriel was the other beneficiary of an easy time on the pitch as the Gunners maintained a lot of control of the ball.

But for the Brazilian is more important to have minutes in the legs after he made his return from injury.

Jurrien Timber 62′ – 6

Made sure he was getting forward to support the attacks early on.

Looked like he picked up a knock after one burst up the pitch but was able to soldier on.

Martin Zubimendi – 7

Fairly quiet game from the Spanish midfielder, which is what can be expected from him.

The former Real Sociedad man is there to do the dirty work and offload the ball and he managed to do that.

He did show one brilliant bit of quality as his whipped cross was on a dime for Gyokeres’ goal.

Converted the winning penalty in the shootout.

Declan Rice 81′ – 6

Helped maintain the pace of the game from midfield with his passing and linking of the play.

A perfectly acceptable performance but not as impressive as Zubimendi.

Martin Odegaard 81′ – 6

Constantly involved with the forward play as expected and led the team to a comfortable victory.

He lacked cutting edge at times as the Gunners could have had even more.

Bukayo Saka – 8

Looked dangerous from the start and almost put the hosts ahead after a good move as he was only denied by Unai Simon.

Was in the right place at the right time to slot home the second into an empty net.

Hit the bottom corner with his penalty.

Gabriel Martinelli 45′ – 6

Wasted a good chance in the opening exchanges as he fired wide after picking up a loose ball from the Bilbao defence.

Showed his quick thinking to perfectly lay off the ball for Saka to double the lead.

Mikel Arteta sacraficed the winger at half time to give more minutes to Noni Madueke.

Viktor Gyokeres 69′ – 8

It looked to be a frustrating afternoon for the striker as he fluffed his lines on a couple of early chances.

But it was a case of third time lucky as he fantastically headed past Simon for the opener.

Following the goal, Gyokeres was clearly more confident as his link-up play was much improved.

He almost made it two for himself after the hour mark but this header was denied by the post.

Showed flashes of pace when he could but was mostly up against a deep block.

Almost grabbed an assist for Gyokeres before full time.

Converted his spot kick emphatically.

Ben White 45′ – 6

Immediately got into the action with an overlapping run into the box, but just failed to control the ball well enough.

Myles Lewis-Skelly 62′ – 5

Replaced Jurrien Timber just after the hour mark and picked up a yellow card just minutes later.

Cristhian Mosquera 62′ – 6

Was subbed on in place of Gabriel and partnered, but had little to do.

Kai Havertz 69′ – 7

Had a great chance to put the Gunners out of sight, but his tame effort was saved by Simon.

Made amends for the missed with a neat finish in the 81st minute to show that Gyokeres still has some competition.

Slotted his penalty past Simon very coolly.

Ethan Nwaneri 81′ – N/A

Replaced Odegaard late on and gained some minutes.

His penalty did not go to plan as he fired over from 12 yards.

Mikel Merino 81′ – N/A

He was played in the midfield for a change as he replaced Rice for the closing stages.

Smashed his penalty into the top corner. Unsaveable.
