Tom Hardy takes centre stage in a new action thriller film which has just been added to Netflix
Netflix has just dropped a heart-pounding new thriller that’s already being hailed as one of the top action flicks of 2025.
The film features one of the UK’s most treasured A-listers, known for his string of legendary roles in Hollywood blockbusters.
Critics are buzzing about the high-octane action sequences that promise to inject your weekend with a serious dose of excitement.
Starring Tom Hardy in a role that showcases his physical prowess and directed by action visionary Gareth Evans of Gangs of London and The Raid fame, you won’t want to miss Havoc.
Hardy plays Walker, a world-weary detective burdened by guilt over a recent blunder when a feared criminal meets a violent end and the mayor’s son is entangled in the fallout, reports Wales Online.
Prepare for some of the year’s most intense action scenes as Walker navigates through a gauntlet of mobsters and hitmen to crack the case wide open.
Despite some critics pointing out Havoc’s convoluted storyline and underdeveloped characters, it’s clear that blockbuster director Evans still knows how to deliver breathtaking action.
The Telegraph was impressed, awarding the movie four stars and commenting, “Tom Hardy has a blast in this jaw-dropping shoot-em-up.
“Playing a cop on a mission, Hardy prowls his way through Gareth Evans’s operatically gruesome, eye-wideningly inventive action movie,” they continued.
Empire magazine gushed over the latest thriller, Havoc, awarding it an impressive four-star rating and hailing the director as being at the “top of his game” in a film described as “wall-to-wall carnage” and a “fist-flinging fever-dream”.
Their review praised the combination of action and emotion: “Through Walker’s journey, you can feel Evans’ intention to imbue his film with more heart than we’ve seen before in his work. And it mostly lands, although a more stripped-back ensemble might have helped with his objective.”
Empire extolled the director’s signature style with high praise: “When it comes to his bread-and-blood-splattered-butter, however, few contemporary filmmakers do it better.”

Sky is giving away a free Netflix subscription with its new Sky Stream TV bundles, including the £15 Essential TV plan.
This lets members watch live and on-demand TV content without a satellite dish or aerial and includes hit shows like You and Black Mirror.
Digital Spy didn’t hold back either, lavishing even more praise by asserting: “Havoc has the best action sequences of the year.”
Their glowing critique spotlighted two “five-star action sequences” and added “Tom Hardy’s intense performance sells it well and keeps you invested so that you’re not just waiting until the next set piece.”
Significantly, they threw down the gauntlet for upcoming action flicks: “Good luck to any other action movie released this year as it’s a strong possibility that Havoc has already delivered the best action sequences of 2025.”
The Guardian struck a more critical note, acknowledging the director’s commitment to high-octane material while missing certain aspects from earlier works: “Evans certainly brings the craziness and the violence but, for me, without the stylish martial arts of his Raid films and without any plausible sense that anything is believably at stake.”
Despite its perceived shortcomings in the screenwriting department, according to some analysts, Havoc looks set to capture the hearts of action aficionados craving edge-of-seat melee encounters and tense gunplay.
Havoc is available to stream on Netflix.
