The new flavours are Smoked Cheddar and Cheddar & Roasted Tomato.

They join the classic line up of Original, Red Leicester and BBQ Mini Cheddars flavours.

The new Cheesy Specials come either as a multi-pack or as a single 90p bag.

Jacob’s marketing boss Asli Akman said the new flavours will “bring a moment of joy to all our fellow cheese-loving fans”.

Shoppers can now choose between the “rich taste of smoked cheddar or the natural sweetness of roasted tomato”, he added.

The new flavours are now available at Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Morrisons, ASDA and Home Bargains.

Posting on Facebook, one shopper said: “Yum, the cheese and tomato looks so nice.”

Another said: “Tried them… the tomato ones are amazing.”

A third said: “OMG, they look delicious. I would definitely share these yummy snacks with my bestie.”

A fourth said: “I buy them and hide them in my secret snack drawer at work. They are too good to share!”

A seagull which has stolen £300 of snacks by regularly trotting into a Tesco has been caught on camera with its latest haul

But one unimpressed shopper said: “Tried the tomato ones from Home Bargains, wasn’t keen on them.”

Are Mini Cheddars crisps or biscuits?

The vital conversation has sparked huge interest on Reddit where it’s amassed more than 2,000 comments from opinionated munchers.

The cheesy bites were launched more than 30 years ago and the argument over their true nature has raged on ever since.

Sadly for those embroiled in the discussion, makers Jacobs don’t even clarify on their website, choosing to simply refer to them as a “baked snack”. Helpful.

One person decided it was time to put the conversation to bed once and for all.

Taking to Reddit, they said: “It’s time to settle some scores… are Mini Cheddars crisps?”

Plenty of people waded in to express their opinion. One said: “No, they are crackers that belong in the crisp aisle. Like Jaffa Cakes are cakes that belong in the biscuit aisle.”

Another said: “I will fight anyone who thinks these are crisps.”

A third said: “So if I asked you to pop to the shop for some biscuits, and you asked what kind, and I said ‘Mini cheddars’, you’d be okay with that?”

Another said: “I trust the judgement of the local landlord. ‘Can I get you any crisps, nuts or Mini Cheddars?’ They’re obviously in a class of their own.”

And another person said: “Cheesy biscuits.”

While someone brought in this interesting nugget of information: “The big ones are in the biscuits aisle, the small ones are in the crisps aisle. The debate goes on.”

While another said: “I’m angry with myself for not knowing the answer.”

So… that solves nothing. Now back to that Jaffa cake thing – what we thinking, cake or biscuit?
