A NEW mega resort could soon open in the UK – with a waterpark, monorail and hotel.

The £40million project is part of theme park Flamingo Land‘s new plans to built on Loch Lomond.

Flamingo Land was given access to develop a new resort on the land back in 2016.

However, the application for a 46-acre resort was withdrawn back in 2019 after locals campaigned against the plans.

A new application was put forward back in 2022, which was then revised back in February 2023.

The new resort, called Lomond Banks, would have a large leisure centre with a swimming pool, water park and spa as the main attraction.

There would also be an apart-hotel with 60 rooms, as well as a budget hotel with 32 beds.

Other accommodation includes 104 holiday lodges, ranging from single story woodland lodges on the riverfront to larger countryside lodges.

Restaurants, cafes, shops and even a brewery and pub would be on-site.

Guests would be able to travel around the resort via a monorail, with a number of outdoor activity areas for live events, BBQs and picnics.

It aims to create 200 jobs at the resort.

However, a number of changes have been introduced to the original plans due to backlash from locals warning it would be “disruptive” to the local community.

Development director Jim Paterson said: “Our team has been involved in extensive consultations for more than a year with the public, local stakeholders and business alike, and we have been encouraged throughout the process by the level of support that sits within the community for our revised plans and all the benefits that these would bring.

“It’s our firm belief that Lomond Banks will bring considerable economic and social benefit to the region.

“We have pledged to not only be a good neighbour, a responsible employer and green operator, but Lomond Banks will ensure that, if given the opportunity, this world-class tourism development, in an area of Loch Lomond that has been identified in the local development plans by both West Dunbartonshire Council and the National Park Authority for such a purpose, will be a source of pride amongst the local community for generations to come.”

Due to ongoing opposition, there is currently no further details on prices or an official opening date.

Thankfully there are lots of other UK attractions set to open that you can be excited about.

Therme, Manchester

One of the biggest attractions opening in the UK is Therme Manchester, a huge indoor water resort.

The £250million project, opening in 2025, will have 25 swimming pools, 35 water slides and an indoor beach.

Swim up bars, spa areas and water lagoons along with restaurants and cafes will be part of the indoor resort.

Big Easy Boulevard Land, Thorpe Park

Replacing Thorpe Park’s Angry Birds Land this year is the Big Easy Boulevard, a huge new themed attraction.

The New Orleans-themed land will have rides including a revamped Detonator, a drop ride, as well as dodgems and a 4D cinema.

Also opening at Thorpe Park this year is Hyperia, set to be the tallest and fastest rollercoaster in the UK.

Woodland Village, Legoland

Legoland is to open a brand new holiday resort on-site this May.

Woodland Village will have 130 lodges as well as 20 camping barrels and a restaurant-bar.

The woodland-themed resort will be a short walk from the main park.

Maple Walk Village, Butlins

Another new holiday resort is opening at Butlins this year too.

Maple Walk Village, opening in May, is a £12million resort at the Skegness resort.

The huge renovation will have 128 lodges, with three bedrooms, kitchens and ensuites.
