Ankle bracelets and curfews are being proposed by the federal government as new measures to monitor people released from immigration detention.
The federal government is rushing new legislation into parliament to impose the new visa conditions, after more than 80 people were released from detention.
Some of the group are convicted criminals.
It follows a High Court ruling last week, which found it was unlawful to indefinitely detain people in immigration detention if there’s no prospect of them being deported.
Home Affairs Minister Clare O’Neil is challenging the opposition to pass the legislation, which would also make it a criminal offence to breach the visa conditions.
