It’s coronation day!

Today, King Charles III will be officially crowned in a lavish and historic ceremony at Westminster Abbey.

Thousands of people will line the streets of central London to watch the display of British pageantry.

Here are the key things you need to know.

What time is the coronation?

The ceremony starts tonight at 8pm AEST.

How do I watch the coronation in Australia?

ABC News will be broadcasting live commentary from 5pm, including the ceremony at 8pm.

We’ll also be live blogging the whole event later this evening.

Who’s going to be at the coronation?

King Charles’s children Prince William and Prince Harry will be there. William’s wife Princess Catherine will attend but Harry’s wife Megan will not due to a conflict with their son’s birthday.

William and Catherine’s three children will also be there with their eldest, Prince George, acting as one of several ‘pages of honour’.

Prince George of Cambridge, King Charles’ oldest grandson, will play a visible role in the coronation.()

Charles’s brother disgraced Duke of York Prince Andrew, will be in attendance, most likely alongside his daughters Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Governor-General David Hurley are representing Australia alongside other high profile Aussies such as musician Nick Cave, comedian Adam Hills and soccer star Sam Kerr.

A large number of commonwealth leaders and foreign royalty will also be in attendance.

All up, 2,000 people were invited to the ceremony.

What’s going to happen at the coronation?

A whole lot of pomp and pageantry.

The multi-hour event will feature carriage rides for the King and Queen, to and from Westminster Abbey.

Once there, Justin Welby, the Archbishop of Canterbury, will guide the ceremony which will include an oath taken by the King, presentation of royal regalia, an anointing and finally the crowning of King Charles III.

The day after the coronation will be the coronation concert which will feature performances by Lionel Richie, Katy Perry and Take That.

Lionel Richie, pictured with girlfriend Lisa Parigi at King Charles’s royal garden party, will be performing at the coronation concert.()

Will Camilla be crowned Queen at the coronation?

Yes.

The invites Charles sent out confirm that after the coronation, ‘consort’ will be dropped off Camilla’s title and she will be known as Queen Camilla.

This change will take place during the ceremony when Camilla will be anointed, crowned and enthroned in a similar fashion to the King
