A truck rollover on Hobart’s Tasman Bridge has caused major traffic chaos with additional ferry services put on to help.

Police said the truck rolled about 3pm and the driver had been taken to the Royal Hobart Hospital.

It is understood the man is receiving medical treatment but the extent of his injuries is unknown.

Val Ansett from Tasmania Fire Service said a crew was sent to the scene of the rollover.

“The information they gave me was that they rescued the driver through the windscreen on the vehicle,” he said.

Motorists are being asked to use the Bowen Bridge as an alternative while the scene is cleared.

Additional Derwent ferry services will be running in response to the bridge closure and are expected to continue for the next few hours.

The Bruny Island ferry is also running an additional service from Kettering at 7.40pm.

Police said shared pathways were open for pedestrians and cyclists.
