What happened in The Capture Season 1?

The first season of the gripping BBC surveillance thriller saw Lance Corporal Shaun Emery acquitted on the charge of unlawfully killing an unarmed Taliban insurgent on tour in Afghanistan.

After serving a six month prison sentence Shaun was freed when his legal team called into question the reliability of the helmetcam footage evidence used to convict him.

However, his life was once again turned upside down when CCTV footage shows him violently assaulting solicitor, Hannah Roberts – who had helped in win his freedom prior.

Adamant that he didn’t hurt her – The Capture Season one saw Shaun attempting to clear his name.

But things weren’t as simple as Shaun first thought – as he is set-up, betrayed and trapped and beaten.

Hot in pursuit to discover if Shaun is telling the truth was Detective Inspector Rachel Carey – who began to doubt if Emery is guilty, especially when her own role in a previous terrorism conviction using CCTV evidence comes into question.

And Carey wasn’t the only one pursuing him – also hot on his heels was Frank Napier.

Season one was saw links to the American security services, an activist group trying to overturn what they believe is an unsafe terrorism conviction and a body in a boot.

As well as doctored CCTV footage, conspiracies, dishonesty and murder.

DI Carey and Emery teamed up to try to expose the sinister Correction – but they were always one step behind.

The final episode saw Emery confess to the manslaughter of Hannah Roberts to protect his daughter and to ensure the Correction programme continued.

And as for DI Carey, she agreed to join the Correction programme – in hopes of exposing them.
