Before the shooting, Susan Lorincz had often complained about AJ’s children, who would play in an open field near her apartment.
She would call them derogatory names and racial slurs, but things came to a head on June 2, 2023, after AJ went to Lorincz’s apartment to confront her following a reported incident involving one of her sons.
When AJ knocked and shouted for Lorincz to open the door, Lorincz fired a single shot through the locked door and it killed the 35-year-old mother. Lorincz claimed it was in self-defence, but she was eventually charged with manslaughter and was sentenced to 25 years in prison.
To this day, AJ’s death has had a harrowing impact on her children – Isaac, Israel, Afrika and Titus – and their lives.
Israel was standing next to his mother when she was shot and he was just nine years old at the time.
Isaac, her eldest son, also witnessed the shooting and called 911, running to a neighbour’s house to get help.
Heartbreakingly, Israel and Isaac have both admitted to feeling responsible for their mother’s death.
On the one-year anniversary of her death, AJ’s children recited a poem at a memorial service.
Ever since, the children have been raised by their grandmother, Pamela Dias.
Dias revealed the impact AJ’s death has had on the children, saying Isaac has been in trauma therapy, according to People.com.
She was also researching counselling for Israel, while sharing how Titus, who was just a toddler when his mother died, was “confused, irritable and inconsolable” in the weeks after.
She told CNN in October 2025: “It’s been very hard for the children – they were very young when they lost their mother, and it’s something no child should have to endure.
“At the same time, they’ve shown strength and resilience that continues to amaze me.
“I can see the values my daughter instilled in them – her kindness, her love, her faith – and that means they carry a piece of her wherever they go.”
Dias has since co-founded a non-profit organisation in honour of her daughter called the Standing in the Gap Fund, which aims to support families impacted by gun and racial violence and to fight for legislative change.

The 18-year-old told The Sun: “Running was something Mum and I used to do when I was younger, we often did park runs and I think I spurred her on to run a little faster.
“It was amazing, there was so much support along the route, which really helped motivate me to run harder and faster than I would have.
“It meant so much to be able to run in memory of her, and the amazing change she has inspired.”
Reflecting on the advice his running-obsessed mum would’ve given before the race, he added: “She would definitely have told me to make sure I had had a poo.

“And to ‘go smash it’, which I probably did a bit too much at the start, so I was super tired towards the end.”
In the last weeks of her life, the Sun columnist launched her Bowelbabe Fund, aiming to raise £250,000 to help fund research into the disease to help prevent “any future Deborahs”, and give cancer patients the hope of new and better treatments.
So far, the Fund has supported more than 11 different projects, including a state-of-the-art interventional radiology machine at The Royal Marsden hospital where Deborah was treated.
Other scientific studies that have received a contribution from the Fund include one that is investigating personalised medicine for patients with bowel cancer, a cause Dame Debs was very passionate about.
The King went on to quote Debs parting message to her followers before she died: “Find a life worth enjoying; take risks; love deeply; have no regrets; and always, always have rebellious hope.”
“I’m honestly so proud of Mum and everything the Fund has done to help others,” Hugo added.
“I remember when she set it up she had a target of £250,000 and now we are at over £18million raised – it is beyond what any of us could’ve imagined.
“It’s such a beautiful legacy for my Mum and the research it is funding will save so many lives.”
Inspired by his mum, Hugo has already added another £4,300 to the Fund’s total, and thanked all those who have supported him so far.
“Everyone has been so supportive, I thought £3,000 would be a really difficult target to hit but we’ve smashed it and I’m so happy and honestly so surprised,” he added.
“I’m really grateful to everyone that has donated.”
Hugo was just the latest in the family to take on a running challenge, with Debs’ brother Ben and sister Sarah taking on the London Marathon this year – Sarah wearing the same poo emoji costume her sister was often seeing running in.

The signs of bowel cancer you need to know – remember BOWEL
B:Bleeding
There are several possible causes of bleeding from your bottom, of blood in your poo.
Bright red blood could come from swollen blood vessels, haemorrhoids or piles, in your back passage.
Dark red or black blood could come from your bowel or stomach.
Blood in your stools is one of the key signs of bowel cancer, so it’s important to mention it to your doctor so they can investigate.
2. O: Obvious change in loo habits
It’s important to tell your GP if you have noticed any changes in your bowel habits, that lasts three weeks or longer.
It’s especially important if you have also noticed signs of blood in your poo.
You might notice you need to go to the loo more often, you might have looser stools or feel like you’re not going enough or fully emptying your bowels.
Don’t be embarrassed, your GP will have heard a lot worse! Speak up and get it checked.
3. W: Weight loss
This is less common than the other symptoms, but an important one to be aware of. If you’ve lost weight and don’t really know why, it’s worth mentioning to your GP.
You may not feel like eating, feel sick, bloated and not hungry.
4. E: Extreme tiredness
Bowel cancer that causes bleeding can cause a lack of iron in the body – anaemia. If you develop anaemia you’re likely to feel tired and your skin might look pale.
5. L: Lump or pain
As with lots of other forms of cancer, a lump or pain can be a sign of bowel cancer.
It’s most likely you’ll notice a pain or lump in your stomach or back passage.

A mum was forced to fork out £1,500 when her son split his head open backflipping into a pool on holiday – as the hospital didn’t accept her Asdainsurance.
Rhiannon Dunn, 32, was left “panicking and I was crying” when little Carlson was rushed to a medical centre to treat the 1.5cm gash on the back of his scalp following the accident. The seven-year-old lad had four stitches put in his head under local anaesthetics and an X-ray on his skull to make sure there were no fractures.
Rhiannon had secured insurance with Asda before the trip to Antalya, Turkey at the start of September, but the hospital would not accept the cover. The mum of four had to cough up £1,532.27 for the treatment before Carlson could be discharged from Konakli Medical Centre.
After Asda was approached by journalists, it said it has paid Rhiannon in full and “surprised and disappointed” the medical centre would not accept the £40 Superior Asda travel insurance.
The accident happened on the first day of the trip, which Rhiannon had booked as a birthday present for Carlson. The youngster hit his head with such force it split open, causing severe bleeding.
Rhiannon, a full-time carer, said: “His cut was so wide open and deep, he needed stitches and to go to hospital. The wound was very deep and black and because he’s a red head it stood out.
“Everything was fine but then they shut us in a room and told us we had to pay the last bill. I told the hospital we had travel insurance from Asda. It was a premium travel insurance with unlimited access as I know kids can be clumsy.
“I was more worried about my son. He was looking at me and he was scared and frightened. I was more upset as you buy travel insurance for a reason and they wouldn’t accept it.
“In the end I had to borrow money from a friend. I don’t know what would have happened if I didn’t pay. Asda were shocked that they [the hospital] wouldn’t accept it.
“Asda spoke to the Turkish hospital and the hospital still point blank refused to accept the travel insurance. We were [put] in an office box room until we paid up. Asda were very distressed with the hospital and said they tried everything they could. I was panicking and I was crying.”
Konakli Medical Centre has apologised the mum felt “distressed” but said treatment is prioritised and “never delayed” over insurance matters. The hospital confirmed that ‘not all policies or insurers are accepted for direct cashless billing’, and in those instances patients are expected to pay the bill.
Rhiannon, who is from Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, is now speaking out about her experience to warn holidaymakers to check their travel insurance is accepted at hospitals near to where they stay.
“It’s annoying because you buy travel insurance for a reason… He told me he’d hit his head, [then I spotted the blood] and started panicking,” Rhiannon, a mum of four, continued.
“I just want to warn other parents to check your insurance and what hospitals it covers. The hospital said they don’t work with Asda travel insurance but Asda said they hadn’t been notified that they didn’t work with them.
“It’s affected me financially as you pay for holiday insurance for a reason and expect to pay the excess [if you need to claim], but I’ve never known to have to cough up the whole amount.
“I want to raise awareness to other families to make sure they do thorough checks and to make sure the local hospital near to where you are staying is covered through your insurance.”
Travel Insurance explained
A spokesperson for Konakli Medical Centre said: “Firstly, we take all patient feedback seriously, and we are sorry to hear that Ms Dunn felt distressed during her visit.
“We work with many travel insurance providers; however, not all policies or insurers are accepted for direct cashless billing, particularly when there is no prior agreement or contract in place.
“In such cases, patients are generally required to pay for treatment and seek reimbursement from their insurer. This is standard procedure at many private healthcare facilities internationally.
“Our medical centre always prioritises the urgent care and well-being of the patient. Treatment is never delayed due to insurance matters.
“Once the patient is stable and treatment is complete, administrative steps regarding payment or insurance are handled. No patient is ever held against their will at our facility. Payment is processed in a separate administrative area from the patient registration desk.
“Additionally, before any treatment is carried out, the full medical process and associated costs are clearly explained to the patient (or guardian), and informed consent is obtained prior to proceeding.”
After being contacted by journalists, Asda said they were ‘surprised and disappointed’ that the hospital didn’t accept the insurance details but said they had now processed Rhiannon’s claim.
An Asda Travel Insurance spokesperson said: “We are disappointed that Ms Dunn had this experience on her holiday, and we wish her son a speedy recovery.
“Ms Dunn’s insurance claim has now been accepted and paid in full. We were surprised and disappointed that the hospital did not accept her insurance details, which was the cause of this problem and, had the hospital followed normal process, the challenges experienced could have been avoided.”

A woman was shamed and insulted after refusing to give up her seat on a flight.
“Last month I took a flight back home after visiting my parents. Boarding time, I walked to my seat, 23A. There was already someone sitting there,” the woman explained on the subreddit Entitled People.
“I had to double-check to make sure it’s the 23rd row. Yep, I was right.”
Rather than accepting that she’d been dealt a bad hand and would be occupying another perch for the flight, the wrong passenger decided to speak up – for principle’s sake, and so she could sit in the seat she had reserved.
“So I told the lady sitting there, it’s my seat. Suddenly, a man on 23D offered me a 23E seat. It turns out they are a family, and the mother didn’t want to be separated from her children (who were in 23B and 23C), so she took my 23A,” the spurned aviator went on.
“I was confused. It’s not like she will be long separated from her children. The children were in 23B-23C, and she and her husband were in 23D-23E—only separated by an aisle! Obviously, I refused. I specifically booked a window seat. It could help me feel at ease looking at the clouds and fall asleep.
“The seat they offered me to trade was a middle seat, 23E. Trapped between the dad (23D) and a random man (23F) in a narrow airplane seat? Nope. I feel suffocated already.”
When the woman explained that she would not accept the wrong seat, tense words erupted.
“I flatly replied, ‘No, I booked the window seat’. The mother immediately felt offended. She replied harshly ‘So you don’t mind we, a family, sitting separately?’ Well, why didn’t YOU book the right seats in the first place? Didn’t say this out loud though, I was only replaying my words ‘That’s my seat’. I was adamant with my answer.
“Finally she’s up, walking away from my seat with angry words she whispered silently towards me. I chose to not pay any attention to them. However, things changed afterwards. Her children were still sitting on the 23B and 23C seat, obviously I could not walk into my seat.
“I asked them politely to get out of their seat so I could get in. What did the mother do? She body shamed me. ‘Kids, get up. Her body is HUGE, she could not get in’.
“My height is above the women’s height average in my country, plus I gained like 10 kgs in the pandemic.”
The woman said the comments hurt her “feelings badly”. According to the passenger, the daughter apologies to her for her mother’s comments.
“The angry tirade stopped around five minutes later, when the mother told her kids to move seats a few rows away. Once more, the daughter pleaded for an apology to me. It’s crazy to think that a 12-year-old was way more emotionally mature than her entitled 40s mother. The whole time her mother spouted insults at me, the daughter looked pale and rigid. Her gaze was fixated on one spot. I assume she was very embarassed. Poor kid,” the woman concluded.
Carmen said: “I am the mum that waits till the very last minute to go and pick the kids up.
“I can’t deal with people.
Claiming she ‘hated everyone,’ Carmen said she avoided mum groups as much as possible.
She continued: “I don’t like those mums that are standing in a f**king group, stuck up their own b**holes wearing DryRobes.”
Carmen also joked that they all stank in their oversized rain coats.
“I just take my car. So I don’t have to speak to people,” she added.
It seemed that the mum’s vent on clicky school mums was something many others could relate to.

The importance of sun cream in your skincare routine
Dermatologist and skincare enthusiast Andrea Suarez – known as Dr Dray – revealed why you should wear suncream.
The one thing you can do that will make the biggest difference – and this matters for all ages – is protecting your skin from the sun, Andrea stressed.

The hotel will be themed around a traditional grand dame hotel with stories woven into the design throughout, appearing like a Wes Anderson story.
There will be digital check-in, valet parking and luggage handling, upon arrival.
A bellhop and Efteling’s two princesses will guests in the lobby, where the air will also be infused with the hotel’s signature fragrance.
The hotel will be spread across seven floors offering 140 rooms and suites, with a total of 644 beds.
The biggest room will be able to host six people.
The hotel rooms will also overlook the park with different views of the Aquanura water show the House of the Dive Senses entrance, the Fairytale Forest or the Pardoes Promenade Lane.
All of the rooms include breakfast at Brasserie 7 and half an hour of early access to the park before it opens to the public.
Other features of the rooms include each one having an Efteling Grand Hotel fairytale book.

The lower ground floor of the hotel will have a swimmingpool – availabel only to hotel guests – with spa facilities including a steam room, sauna and massage room.
There will also be a multifunctional serenity room where guests can unwind, pray or meditate.
The hotel will have two restaurants with Brasserie 7 located on the ground floor and Restaurant-Bar Mystique on the first floor.
While Brasserie 7 will serve up a range of classic dishes – which include seven ‘magical’ ingredients such as princess tears and snow from Mother Holle – Restaurant-Bar Mystique will offer a more premium dining experience.

Each table will be decorated with edible decorations and the restaurant will be open to the public, as well as park and hotel guests.
Café Biscuit will also be a part of the hotel, where baristas will serve coffee and the signature Grand Hotel biscuit.

One mum took to the Facebook group Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK and showed how she filled her basket on the George app with discount clothes.
She wrote: “Lots of clothes reduced on the George app.”
Including in her shopping haul were some gamer-themed boys pjs for £1.50, which were for aged seven to eight.
The woman also bought a five-pack of cotton socks for £2 and some Pokemon-themed socks for £2.50.
Other shoppers commented saying they had also stocked up for their kids’ summer wardrobes.
One mum got a £1.50 girls T-shirt, a two-pack of long-sleeve tops for £3 and some £4 swim shorts.
She also got a £2 tennis-themed pink sweatshirt, and a £2 mint green sweatshirt which said ‘Happy Moments.’
Meanwhile, a third Asda fan wrote: “Just got grandkids some bits too.”
One bargain hunter also pointed out that you can save on delivery by getting it sent to an Asda store, which waivers the usual £4 shipping fee.

The debut site opened on Saturday, May 10 in Leeds, taking over the old Asda Living at Crown Point Retail Park.
The slick new store is packed with head-turning fashion, stylish homeware, must-have toys and baby bits – plus a fresh café to fuel your spree.
There are 30 Asda Living stores across the UK, and bosses will decide later this year whether to roll out more George stores after another trial run.

By 2004, it was the nation’s biggest clothing retailer, and Asda launched its first Living store to expand into homeware.
The supermarkets have really upped their game when it comes to their fashion lines. These days, as you head in to do your weekly food shop you can also pick up a selection of purse-friendly, stylish pieces for all the family.
Tesco has just announced a 0.7 per cent increase in the quarter thanks to a ‘strong growth in clothing’ and M&S has earnt the title of the number one destination for womenswear on the high street.
Asda’s clothing line George has made £1.5 million for the supermarket in 2023, 80 per cent of Sainsbury’s clothes sold at full price rather than discounted and Nutmeg at Morrisons sales are also up 2 per cent in the past year.
So what is it about supermarket fashion that is becoming so successful?
Apart from the clothing actually being affordable, it’s good quality too – with many being part of schemes such as the Better Cotton Initiative.
A lot of the time they keep to classic pieces that they know will last the customer year after year.

Thai Salmon Fishcakes
Makes: 8 Prep time: 10 mins Cooking time: 6 mins
Ingredients: *350g white bread *2 x 213g tins boneless salmon, drained *Bunch spring onions, finely chopped *2tsp chilli flakes *1tsp garlic paste *1tsp ginger paste *Zest and juice 1 lime *3tbsp sweet chilli sauce *2 eggs, beaten *Handful plain flour, for dusting *Sunflower oil, for frying
Method:
1. Place the bread, salmon and chopped spring onions in a food processor. Pulse until you have a salmony crumb.
2. Tip the mixture into a mixing bowl. Stir in the chilli flakes, garlic paste, ginger paste, lime zest and juice and sweet chilli sauce. Season with salt and pepper, before using your hands to ensure the ingredients are evenly distributed. Add the beaten egg and use your hands to combine the mixture into a wet dough. Shape into 8 equal balls. Scatter the flour over a plate and roll each ball in it until lightly dusted. Brush off any excess, before pressing the balls into patties, roughly 21⁄2cm thick.
3. Heat a drizzle of oil in a large, non-stick frying pan and fry the fishcakes over a medium heat for 2–3 minutes on each side, or until browned and cooked through.

Chinese Mackerel Tacos
Serves: 4 Prep time: 10 mins Cooking time: 5 mins
Ingredients: *8 mini tortilla wraps, to serve *Coriander, to garnish (optional)
For the hoisin slaw: *1 carrot, finely sliced into thin strips *4 large sweetheart cabbage leaves, tough stems removed, finely sliced *1 small red pepper, deseeded and finely sliced *1⁄2 bunch spring onions, finely chopped *40g mayonnaise *50ml hoisin sauce
For the mackerel: *Oil, for frying *1⁄2 bunch spring onions, finely chopped *1tsp freshly ground black pepper *1tsp Chinese 5 spice *3 x 125g tins mackerel, drained
Method:
1. First make the hoisin slaw. Put the carrot, cabbage, red pepper and spring onions in a bowl and mix together.
2. Use a separate bowl to whisk together the mayonnaise, hoisin sauce and 1 tablespoon of water until smooth. Season with salt and pepper. Pour the sauce over the slaw, mix thoroughly until evenly coated and set aside.
3. Heat a good drizzle of oil in a non-stick frying pan. Add the spring onions and fry for 2 minutes. Stir in the black pepper and Chinese 5 spice and fry for 1 minute. Add the mackerel, breaking it up a little in the pan as you stir, so the pieces are smaller, but not mashed. Fry for 2 minutes until the mackerel is heated through. Stir a tablespoon of water into the hot pan to lift the spices. Season with salt.
4. Microwave the tortilla wraps for a few seconds until warm or gently heat in the oven. Divide the slaw between the wraps, then top each one with spiced mackerel and fold in half.
5. Serve the tacos as they are or with basmati rice, garnished with coriander, if you like.

15-Minute Gnocchi Fish Pie
Serves: 5 Prep time: 5 mins Cooking time: 20 mins
Ingredients: *Oil, for frying *500g gnocchi *1 onion, finely chopped *200g garlic and herb soft cheese *2 x 145g tins tuna, drained *100g cheddar, grated *250ml milk *80g frozen sweetcorn *80g frozen peas *1tsp dried oregano *50g fresh spinach leaves *Garlic bread and salad, to serve
Method:
1. Heat a good drizzle of oil in a large, non-stick frying pan. When it’s spitting hot, add the gnocchi (work in two batches if need be) and fry for 3-5 minutes over a medium-high heat until golden brown and crisp. Set the gnocchi aside.
2. Heat a little more oil in the pan. Add the onion and fry for 5 minutes until soft. Take the pan off the heat and add the soft cheese, tuna, grated cheddar, milk, frozen sweetcorn, frozen peas and oregano. Season with salt and pepper and return to a medium heat.
3. Stir until all the ingredients are combined and the mixture is starting to gently bubble.
4. Once the cheese has melted, stir in the spinach and the fried gnocchi. Simmer for a minute or two until the frozen veg is soft and the gnocchi is heated through.
5. Serve immediately with a side of garlic bread and salad.

Some of the most notable ones include Too Good to Go and Olio.
Too Good to Go’s app is free to sign up to and is used by millions of people across the UK, letting users buy food at a discount.
Olio works similarly, except users can collect both food and other household items for free from neighbours and businesses.
Yellow sticker bargains – yellow sticker bargains, sometimes orange and red in certain supermarkets, are a great way of getting food on the cheap.
Super cheap bargains – sign up to bargain hunter Facebook groups like Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK where shoppers regularly post hauls they’ve found on the cheap, including food finds.
“Downshift” – you will almost always save money going for a supermarket’s own-brand economy lines rather than premium brands.
The move to lower-tier ranges, also known as “downshifting” and hailed by consumer expert Martin Lewis, could save you hundreds of pounds a year on your food shop.
