The new policy means that guests will always have a great visit to the attraction, because if the weather is poor they can return on a day where it is better.
The policy will be in place throughout August and it will need to rain for more than three hours on the day of their trip.
If this does happen, then guests can return for free within seven days of their original visit date.
CEO of Pleasure Beach Resort, Amanda Thompson OBE said: “It’s important to us that guests have the best time when visiting, and while technically speaking the rain doesn’t affect our rides, we wouldn’t want the wet weather to dampen anyone’s day.

“We truly believe that you can have a great time at Pleasure Beach come rain or shine, but we know that everything is extra special when the weather is on side.”
If a guest wants to use a rainy day return, they should arrive at the same ticket centre on the day of their return visit and display their eTickets, paper tickets or confirmation email to staff.
The new option can also be used seven days of the week.
AttractionTickets.com created an index compiling the best attractions to take kids to this summer and the Lancashire-based attraction managed to beat the likes of Walt Disney World and Universal Orlando.
Overall, it scored 31.3 out of a possible 35 marks.
First look at new ‘tallest of its kind’ ride to open at English seaside theme park
The attraction is home to 10 rollercoasters, five ‘dark’ (indoor) rides, five water rides and 12 Nickelodeon-themed rides.
Throughout the year, Blackpool Pleasure Beach Resort also hosts a number of shows, including fireworks.
Earlier this year, the reimagining of Launch Pad was unveiled, which climbs up to 80 mph and sends riders 210 ft into the air.
AttractionTickets.com’s Banish Boredom Index was made by analysing reviews from over 160 destinations, and the UK dominated the top 20.

These included the likes of the Tower of London, Ribby Hall Village, and Warner Bros. Studio Tour London all made the list.
Some other attractions across the UK offer rainy day guarantees, such as Crealy Adventure Park in Devon.
The attraction offers visitors a free return within seven days of their original visit if there is 30 minutes or more of continuous rainfall during their visit.
It is worth checking the FAQs or T&Cs of your tickets to an attraction to see if the theme park, adventure park or other destination offers the same guarantee.
Use these tips on your next theme park trip
Next time you visit a theme park, you may want to use our top tips to make the most of your adrenaline-inducing day out.
Go to the back of the theme park first. Rides at the front will have the longest queues as soon as it opens.
Go on water rides in the middle of the day in the summer – this will cool you off when the sun is at its hottest.
Download the park’s app to track which rides have the shortest queues.
Visit on your birthday, as some parks give out “birthday badges” that can get you freebies.
If it rains, contact the park. Depending on how much it rained, you may get a free ticket to return.
There is also a unique UK theme park with safaris, water park and rides for everyone from toddlers to grandparents.
A study of 2,000 adults found the vast majority try and ‘live like a local’ when abroad, with priorities now more focused on creating unique experiences rather than seeing the main sights
A trip out of the usual hotspots can lead to more unique experiences(Image: Getty Images)
UK holidaymakers are searching for better ways to have a more ‘authentic’ experience while on holiday, rather than relying on visits to popular tourist hotspots. Research shows more than three quarters of holidaymakers attempt to ‘live like a local’ when they go abroad as priorities shift towards creating more unique experiences.
To do this, travellers are turning to locals for advice on dining recommendations to make sure they find the best options. They study shows travellers are also switching up their shopping habits, choosing to visit local grocery stores instead of familiar chains. Others are also choosing to cycle or walk rather than use public transport to better explore the area.
Travelling by bike is seen as a good way to come across something new(Image: Getty Images)
The study was commissioned by Skyscanner, which has developed a Road Trip Planner to assist travellers in uncovering local hidden treasures.
Laura Lindsay, travel trends and destination expert for the brand, said: “There’s something truly special about stepping off the tourist trail and embracing the pace, traditions, and tastes of local life.
“Living like a local adds depth and colour to your holiday and creates a genuine connection with the destination. It’s not just more rewarding – it’s often more fun, too.”
The research suggests that holidaymakers strive to ‘live like a local’ not only for a more authentic experience – 35 per cent said it helps them find the best spots for food and drink – but also because they believe it’s more respectful, with a third stating they enjoy supporting the local economy.
Over four in 10 travellers are more inclined to try and ‘live like a local’ on holiday now than they were five years ago, possibly due to the influence of social media. Half of the holidaymakers surveyed said that social media has made it easier to discover hidden gems off the beaten path while on holiday.

When venturing beyond typical tourist areas, two thirds said they were taken aback by how different a country or place felt. Levelling up their ‘local experience’ a quarter of holidaymakers have specifically chosen accommodation because it resembled somewhere a local resident would live.
However, there are still certain obstacles prevent tourists from experiencing a true local lifestyle on their holidays. As expected, language barriers were a significant issue, followed by a lack of confidence or uncertainty about where to begin.
Meanwhile, the survey revealed that discovering new foods and flavours is the top priority for travellers, although 36 per cent simply yearn for a few moments of tranquillity.
To achieve this, 27 per cent prefer to hire a car for a more authentic local holiday experience, as it provides them with greater freedom to explore, be more independent and make spontaneous discoveries.
Laura Lindsay, from Skyscanner, added: “Living like a local doesn’t have to mean going completely off-grid – it’s about making small, intentional choices that enrich your travel.
“And best of all, it helps support the communities you visit, from independent businesses to artisans and family-run restaurants. It’s a win for travellers and locals alike.”
Montenegro might not be as famous as its neighbours, but its stunning coastline, clear waters and historic towns have earned it plenty of praise from British holidaymakers
There’s a hidden European gem which is cheaper than its European counterparts (Image: Getty)
Greece, Spain, and Portugal are the go-to spots for many holidaymakers, famed for their stunning landscapes and rich offerings. However, these destinations can become tourist traps in the peak of summer, leaving those in search of tranquillity a bit miffed.
But fear not, there’s a hidden gem that some seasoned travellers argue might just outshine them all. Tucked away on the Adriatic Sea and bordered by Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, and Albania, Montenegro is a treasure trove yet to be overrun by mass tourism.
Its breathtaking coastline, crystal-clear waters, and time-capsule towns have garnered accolades from tourists who reckon it rivals its more illustrious neighbours, minus the throngs of visitors.
The Bay of Kotor, a UNESCO World Heritage Site reminiscent of a fjord, is a jewel in Montenegro’s crown.
Nestled among mountains, this bay boasts historical gems like Kotor and Perast, enchanting visitors with their charm, reports the Express.
Montenegro is less crowded than Croatia or Spain(Image: Getty)
TripAdvisor reviews are positive with tales of Montenegro’s allure, with many finding it a welcome respite from the bustling Greek isles or the crowded Spanish beaches.
One traveller said: “Montenegro stole my heart, even more than Greece!” praising the sublime seafood and jaw-dropping vistas.
“Greece was great, but Kotor Bay’s cliffs and medieval walls blew me away. Wandering through Kotor Old Town, I loved how peaceful Montenegro felt, far less tourist chaos than Athens or Santorini.”
Another holidaymaker who had recently explored Portugal’s Algarve posted: “Last summer, I toured Portugal’s Algarve coast. Lovely beaches, bustling towns, but Montenegro left a far bigger mark.
“Its Adriatic coastline is stunning, yet totally uncrowded compared to Portugal in summertime. Jaz and Mogren beaches felt like private retreats.”
A third globe-trotter declared that Montenegro surpassed even Spain in their estimation, explaining: “I’ve been to Spain’s Costa del Sol several times (think sun, sea, sangria), but Montenegro feels more authentic and affordable.

“Beach days in Budva and Tivat cost a fraction of Spanish resorts, yet the scenery is just as spectacular.”
The seaside resort of Budva draws countless visitors to Montenegro, renowned for its sandy shores, vibrant nightlife, and historic Old Town quarter.
Venture further into the interior, and destinations such as Durmitor National Park present alpine vistas, walking routes, and thrilling white-water rafting adventures along the Tara River Canyon.
One explorer shared: “In just a few hours, I went from pebbled beaches on the Budva Riviera to the snow-capped peaks of Durmitor National Park.”
Many travellers highlight Montenegro’s wallet-friendly appeal compared to other European holiday favourites.
One holidaymaker said: “Beach days in Budva and Tivat cost a fraction of Spanish resorts, yet the scenery is just as spectacular.”
Montenegro’s compact dimensions make it particularly attractive for tourists, as the nation is petite and incredibly straightforward to navigate. Visitors have reported that you can enjoy a morning hike, an afternoon at the beach, and an evening meal by the water.
It’s also often cited as one of the rare spots in Europe where you can savour both mountainous landscapes and coastal views within the same day.
One woman has shared a ‘game-changing’ way to store liquids in your hand luggage before a flight – and it’s something she only learnt after being married to a pilot for 13 years
15:13, 01 Aug 2025Updated 15:48, 01 Aug 2025
Packing your toiletries for a flight can be a struggle (stock photo)(Image: miodrag ignjatovic via Getty Images)
In the majority of UK airports, any liquids in your carry-on luggage must be under 100ml and stored in a transparent bag for easy inspection by security personnel. While you can take bigger containers in your hold luggage, those making smaller trips might only have hand luggage with them for the journey.
While some major UK airports have recently implemented new scanners that permit up to two litres of liquids in hand luggage, it’s always prudent to check the regulations at your destination to avoid having to discard your favourite toiletries at security on your return trip.
If you’re still required to limit your liquid items on your next flight, or if you’re simply trying to conserve space for more clothing in your suitcase, fear not. A frequent traveller, who happens to be a pilot’s wife, has shared a straightforward hack for packing toiletries that many wish they’d known sooner.
The woman, Laurie, advised passengers in an Instagram video to stop storing their liquid containers upright in their clear bags. While this is how products are typically displayed in adverts for visual appeal, it’s rather impractical.
Instead, Laurie suggests laying your liquids horizontally, assuring travellers they’ll be amazed at how much difference this simple adjustment can make.
She revealed: “This is the number one travel hack I learned as a pilot’s wife after about 13 years of packing only a carry-on suitcase. If you pack the liquid containers horizontally so that they are all lying flat, for some reason, you can fit more in.
“The tiny things, like my mascara and my primer, can fit vertically in the open pockets of space, much like you would do in a suitcase. Hope this travel hack helps!”
Content cannot be displayed without consent
The tip might be a no-brainer for some seasoned travellers, but it left numerous commenters astounded, with many expressing surprise at not having thought of it before.
One individual shared their newfound enlightenment: “I was today years old when I learned this from you! I love my compression bags for clothing … just got home from a two-leg trip and whew … carry-on was heavy! Thanks for your great tip.”
Another chimed in: “I recently traveled and realised the same thing. Huge difference in room.”
Meanwhile, a third praised: “Love this tip Laurie!”
What liquids can I take to an airport?
There are limits on how much you can carry in your hand luggage. For those with checked baggage, it’s wise to stow liquids there. The term ‘liquids’ encompasses a broad range of items including all beverages, foodstuffs such as soups, jams, and syrups, cosmetics and toiletries, sprays like shaving foam and deodorant, contact lens solutions, and gels like hair and shower gel.
The regulations for carrying liquids in your hand luggage can differ from one airport to another. It’s advisable to familiarise yourself with the rules at your departure airport, any transit airports, and your return journey airport before setting off.
Most airports enforce a rule that prohibits passengers from taking liquids in containers larger than 100ml through security checks. This rule remains in effect even if the container is not filled to capacity. However, some airports may permit you to carry liquid in containers that can hold up to two litres.
In addition, you might be required to place liquids into a separate, clear bag. While this isn’t a universal requirement across all airports, it’s always better to be prepared or do your homework in advance.
If the airport instructs you to segregate liquids into a separate bag:
Containers must be in a single, transparent, resealable plastic bag, which holds no more than a litre and measures approximately 20cm x 20cm
Contents must fit comfortably inside the bag so it can be sealed
The bag must not be tied at the top
You’re limited to one plastic bag per person
You must show the bag at the airport security point
Fresh advice is warning holidaymakers against consuming water directly from hotel bathroom taps. Brian Toward, chief executive of UK bathroom supplier Wholesale Domestic, reveals that countless tourists remain oblivious to the potential hazards of sipping tap water straight from hotel bathrooms.
Numerous accommodations feature antiquated plumbing networks that may deliver inferior water quality compared to what you’d expect back home. Some vintage establishments still even have lead piping throughout their structures.
Brian has warned against drinking tap water while staying in a hotel(Image: Getty)
“If you’re staying at a hotel, it’s a good idea to avoid drinking from the bathroom tap if you can,” advises Brian.
“It might be tempting, especially if there’s no other tap in the room, but it’s better to grab a few bottles of water during your stay, especially if the hotel is older and might still have old lead pipes.”
Despite potentially holidaying in destinations with pristine water supplies, Brian cautions that numerous hotels continue to depend on massive rooftop or loft water reservoirs to service guest bathrooms.
Should the water within these reservoirs become stagnant, it risks collecting limescale deposits, harmful bacteria, and even fragments from the storage unit itself.
Many hotels store water in a tank(Image: Getty)
Brian further explained: “The less frequently the water in the tank is refreshed, the more likely it is to pick up some contaminants along the way and if hotels still have old pipes, stagnant water is more likely to absorb lead and other metals, making it even more risky.”
He also emphasised that simply boiling the water in a kettle isn’t a foolproof solution.
He stated: “A common belief is that boiling tap water makes it safe to drink, which is somewhat true, but it’s important to note that doing so does not entirely eliminate the risk of chemical contamination or debris.
“While boiling tap water for 15 minutes will remove trace amounts of chlorine, and studies have shown that it can also remove up to 90% of microplastics in the water, this will not help if your water has been contaminated by lead.”
LOVE Island 2025 is coming to an end, with two old islanders returning to the fold in the penultimate week, before being booted off again — one of them for the second time this series.
With the drama continuing to simmer beneath the surface, we’re surely in for a heated conclusion to this year’s summer of love.

While she found romance with other Islanders, it also seemed like there was a potential reunion on the cards for the ex flames, although that never came to fruition.
On her exit, Emma said: “I feel fine.
“I had a good run and I left with my love interest, so I think it was the best way to go.”

The love triangle that gripped and concerned the nation was the ultimate cause for Harrison leaving the villa.
The 22-year-old decided to leave the villa after he was unable to choose between Toni and Lauren, leaving them both in tears.
As a result, Women’s Aid issued a statement condemning his behaviour and criticising theITVreality show for perpetuating misogyny and sexism.

After the arrival of new bombshell Angel, the Islanders played the Couple of Sorts game, where they were asked to predict which three boys Angel would find the most attractive.
Conor was placed third, with Harry second and Ty coming out on top.
Ty then received a text telling him that he had been coupled up with Angel, leaving Lauren single and, therefore, dumped from the villa.
Lauren’s time in the villa was cut short, but managed to find herself tangled up in the love triangle with Toni and Harrison.

But her time in the villa came to an end in yet another twist.

Tommy was another OG boy brutally dumped from the villa after another couple believed him and Lucy to be the least compatible couple.
Reflecting on his Love Island journey, Tommy said he is “really proud” to have put himself outside of his comfort zone and is “grateful for the opportunity”.
The 22-year-old’s exit from the villa definitely made an impact, considering he was one of the last remaining original boys.
Ben Holbrough

Ben fell foul of the OG exodus, after leaving in a brutal twist.
The 23-year-old found himself dumped as one half of the latest least compatible couple.
He said in his exit interview: “A lot of the older guys in there spoke to me and helped me deal with situations better.
I’m definitely coming out of the Villa a better person.

After Ben and Andrada received the fewest votes from the public, their time in the villa was over, and while Andrada’s time was short-lived, it didn’t come without its fireworks.
The Miss Bikini Ireland 2019 winner entered the villa as a Casa Amor bombshell and tempted Ben.
But just as she finished unpacking, the Irish beauty was sent packing.
At least she won’t have to worry about an airport transfer with her new private hire taxi driver beau.

Emily Moran

Emily was a pre-existing Love Islander before Casa Amor, but found herself single after Tommy’s head was turned.
Lucy caught his eye, and Emily did not manage to find a connection with anyone new, leaving her at risk of being dumped.
Reflecting on how it felt to be leaving the villa, Emily said: “I had the best time. I don’t feel sad about leaving, it was my time to go. I stayed true to myself. I wouldn’t change it for the world!”
Giorgio Russo

Giorgio didn’t have long in the villa and his decision to remain single after Casa Amor only backfired as he was then dumped from the Island.
He said: “I had the best time. I don’t feel sad about leaving, it was my time to go. I stayed true to myself. I wouldn’t change it for the world!”
Giorgio’s summer holidays did not end there as he immediately flew out to Switzerland to support Lioness sister Alessia in her bid for back-to-back Euro glory.
Rheo Parnell

Rheo had a connection with Harry in Casa Amor but he chose to recouple with Helena, which meant Rheo was single and therefore dumped.
Asked how it felt to be leaving the villa, Rheo said: “It feels bittersweet, I think I was led astray slightly by Harry.
“But who’s going to be shocked by that really, Harry’s going to be Harry! I don’t think anyone should trust him.”
Yas Broom

Yas time in the villa came to an abrupt end when no one chose to recouple with her in Casa Amor.
The Manchester-based DJ and former X Factor contestant was another victim of the brutal Casa Amor.
“It feels a bit surreal,” she said when asked how it felt to leave the villa.
“I feel like it definitely went really quick, I wish I had a bit longer in there. I made some great connections!”
Chris Middleton

Unfortunately for Chris, none of the girls chose to recouple with him.
He told ITV: “We all go in there looking for a spark and a connection and you know quite quickly if you’ve found that. While people were saying it was wide open, there were quite a few girls that were sticking with their original boys. Grateful for the experience.
“Met a great group of lads and spent time in the main villa so you can’t turn your nose up at that, I just wish it was for longer.”
Martin Enitan

Martin was the second Casa Amor boy to not be chosen to return to the main villa, and was dumped from the Island.
He said: “[I feel] gutted obviously but still grateful for the experience.
“Even if it didn’t work out, overall it was great to know everyone because they were mad lovely.”
Alima Gagigo

Fans were gutted by the exit of OG Alima, who was sent packing after failing to make a romantic connection with Remell.
As one of the originals, she failed to make it to Casa Amor, and meet a potential new connection.
Alima said upon her exit: “It’s a mix of emotions, I’ve been there since the start, so it’s bittersweet, but at the same time, I just can’t wait to wear no makeup for days and weeks now!”
Ryan Bannister

Having only just arrived in the villa, it’s safe to say Ryan’s dumping was slightly overshadowed by the exit of long-standing islander Alima.
Ryan entered the villa as a bombshell alongsideBillykiss Azeezand set his sights onToni Laitesand Shakira, however he failed to turn heads and was dumped after just 48 hours.
Still, it appears the late arrival enjoyed his time in Majorca, saying: “Being in the villa and seeing it first-hand was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity! As short as it was, it was still amazing.”
Remell Mullins

The public were tasked with choosing their favourite boy and girl in the villa, but in a brutal twist it turned out that the islanders with the lowest votes would be sent home.
Remell ended up being revealed as the man with the fewest votes, behind Ben and Harry.
Earlier in the week, Alima had ended things with Remell after she discovered he had repeatedly kissed bombshell Poppy while on the sleepover.
Karma is real…
Megan Clarke

Megan was another victim of the public vote which saw Remell leave the villa.
It emerged she had received the fewest votes when the viewers had been asked to pick their favourite boy and girl, with her receiving the least out of her, Shakira and Toni.
It had been a dramatic week after Megan built a connection with Conor, leading to the end of things with Tommy, with whom she had seemed to be in a secure couple.
After the bottom three were revealed to be her, Shakira and Toni, it was confirmed that she would be the one packing her bags.
But her exit was only temporary as she returned for the final week.
Shea Mannings
31
Shea entered the villa as a bombshell alongside RemellCredit: Shutterstock Editorial
The exit of Shea was the biggest shock of the night.
After Helena, Dejon, Emily and Remell had all been chosen by the new bombshells to enter the sleepover villa, they were then told by Maya to choose if they wanted to stick in their current couple or recouple.
The former cabin crew hostess, Helena, was the only one who decided to recouple, choosing Lioness Alessia Russo’s bombshell brother, Giorgio.
The decision left Shea single, and after receiving a text telling the semi-professional footballer that his time was up, he knew he was not getting any extra time in the villa.
After leaving, the dad-of-one shared his thoughts on his relationship with Helena.
He said: “I think it was more of a friendship to be honest, so she was probably correct to make her decision.
“It was just a friend thing but we were going to explore it anyway.”
He added: “Obviously you never know, but as soon as I found out I was single, I kind of knew my time was up. I was just gutted.”
Caprice Alexandra

Caprice was one of two blonde bombshells to have entered the villa to shake up the couples.
However, the 26-year-old nursery owner was sent back to Romford after Dejon decided to stick with his partner Meg.
But after leaving the villa, Caprice did not hold back about the reason she left.
She said: “I expected it. From the beginning I felt like he knew what he was going to do.
“I think he’s playing a bit of a game though, but I expected it from him.”
Poppy Harrison

As the second of our blonde bombshells to enter the villa in recent days, Poppy chose to try and steal Remell.
She invited the influencer to the sleepover villa, but failed to win him over.
Instead Remell chose to stay coupled with Alima, leaving Poppy single.
After leaving the villa, Poppy was confused on why she had been dumped.
The bombshell said: “[I am] shocked and surprised.
“I feel like Remell perhaps didn’t go with his true feelings, he said less than 12 hours before on the truth or dare game that he’d recouple with me, and he wanted to take things further.”

Will was yet another bombshell who made an early exit.
The Norfolk-born and bred fitness trainer and farmer chose to swoon Emily.
But while Will means well, he was no match for 25-year-old Irish rugby player Conor.
Emily chose to stick with Conor, leaving Will single.
Malisha Jordan

It had been a relatively calm week ahead of Wednesday’s night mass axing.
The 24-year-old teaching assistant was a late arrival to the villa.
She had tried to win the heart of Dejon, who decided to stay coupled with original beau Meg, leaving Malisha single.
She was not alone after Toni had also been left single in a dramatic recoupling.
However, the choice came down to 22-year-old Harrison Solomon to decide the girls’ fate.
Malisha’s time in the villa came to an end after Harrison decided to save Toni.
Sophie Lee
On June 11, 2025, former fire-breather Sophie Lee was dumped in a brutal twist, making her the first islander to leave the villa.

The 29-year-old was evicted from the villa after newly-single Shakira Khan picked Harry Cooksley, sending Sophie home immediately.
The previous night, Shakira had found herself single after bombshell Toni Laites, 24, picked to couple up with Ben Holbrough, leaving Shakira to graft all with all the coupled-up boys.
Maya Jama returned to the villa, revealing the shock twist that the lads could nominate themselves to recouple with Shakira.
While originally also meant to feature Kyle Ashman, the 23-year-old was axed from the show days before the launch after it was revealed that he was wrongly suspected to be involved in a machete attack.

Many of us will take to the trails at the weekend to fill our lungs with fresh air, get our hearts going and take our minds away from the stresses of everyday life. While a Sunday afternoon stroll may usually resemble a lap around the local park or the route around next door’s field.
However, for one man, his leisurely walk turned out to be an all-around more stressful afternoon as he attempted the UK’s scariest walk.
TikTok reviewer and social media star Phil Carr headed up to the Lake District to attempt the perilous walk up Wasdale Screes, an area of unstable, loose boulders on the bank of Wast Water.
The route appears to be more of climb than a hike, with locals and trekkers alike generally advising against the route due to the seemingly endless places to take a tumble or roll an ankle.
Wasdale Screes takes you along a pretty scary route(Image: Christine Curtin via Getty)
Heading up the sketchy hill, Phil said: “The scariest path in the UK? This is it, and yes, Wasdale Screes is an actual footpath, and it’s terrifying. Everyone said ‘don’t do it’ and I couldn’t find anybody who’d walked across it more than once in their lives.”
While the likes of Giddy Edge in Derbyshire, a path that essentially straddles the side of a cliff face, and The Broomway in Essex, a path that can soon leave you cut off by the ocean, whereas Wasdale poses a whole different challenge – thousands of loose rocks lining a mountainside above your head.
Phil added: “Wasdale Screes is over 1,000 feet of rock slide just above your head. It’s insecure, it’s steep, it can all go at any minute, and the route across it is over a mile.”
Content cannot be displayed without consent
The Lake District route starts seemingly innocently with rolling green hills filled with sheep and even alpacas, that is, until the path splits off up to Wasdale, with the National Trust signpost even labelling the walk as “not recommended”.
Decked out in hiking gear and with a SOS call at the ready, Phil bravely soldiered towards the climb. He added: “Another massive red flag is that there were quite a lot of people in this part of the Lake District, but none of them were going down the path I was going down.”
Locals advised Phil to avoid a dog and to stay low across the screes, with what looks like miles of unsteady rocks looming over you.

Continuing, Phil said: “Normally when you’re walking along a scary path you’re worrying about a drop to one side of you, here you’re worrying about what’s above you, it could all come crashing down on me… they wouldn’t even find me.”
Despite the adrenaline hit and both breathtaking and petrifying views, Phil seemed somewhat scarred by the experience. He added: “It’s not at all rewarding, but it is absolutely terrifying and it is very slow – a mile is a long way when you have to think about every footstep you take.”
Finally summing up his experience and questioning whether he would recommend the path, Phil summarises: “Well, absolutely not, it’s completely pointless, you don’t get any sense of achievement, the view of the mountains is actually better from the other side of the lake.”
During last month’s heatwave I was lucky to cool off at an outside table at the Mayfly on the River Test near Stockbridge. Sipping a refreshing pint while leaping trout splashed in the water gave the scene a feel of the perfect English summer day. There’s a nearby weir, and forests and fields stretch into the distance. The pub has friendly staff, plenty of tables and a river-based menu including “brown butter chalk stream trout fillet” (£20.50) plus pub classics. If the setting inspired you as it did me, there are vineyards nearby to explore and the timber-framed village of Wherwell is just a stroll along the towpath. Joe

The Minerva stands at the entrance to Hull’s trendy marina and has fantastic views over the Humber estuary. It opened in 1829 and is decorated with pictures, photos, maps and shields that celebrate Hull’s maritime history. “The snug” can only fit two people and is claimed to be the smallest pub room in the UK. The staff are brilliant and there’s an ever-changing selection of guest ales. Rob
Warrington’s most serene pub
The Ferry Tavern is between the River Mersey and the Sankey canal. Photograph: John Davidson Photos/Alamy
The Ferry Tavern is a family-run pub that stands proud on its own island between the River Mersey and the Sankey to St Helen’s canal. Although it feels worlds away from nearby built-up areas, it’s easily accessible, and best approached on foot or by bike, sitting right on the Trans-Pennine trail. The beer garden stretches along the riverbank, and nursing a pint of ale on a summer evening while looking out across this tranquil section of the Mersey with all its birdlife is serenity. The 300-year-old tavern is all cosy low ceilings and wooden beams, perfection for the Sunday pub quiz, while Foodie Fridays attracts locals to themed cuisine from Mexican to Greek. The rest of the week, however, hot food is not served. Matt Lunt

The 18th-century Blue Lias is a lovely family-run pub on the peaceful banks of the Grand Union canal in the heart of the verdant Warwickshire countryside. It beckoned me towards its outside beer garden as I strolled along the canal with its vibrant flower baskets hanging outside and the welcoming sound of friendly chatter from fellow walkers sipping ale. The pub is named after the clay that’s quarried in the area and offers a beautiful, calm ambience on a summer’s day with many people arriving on foot or by narrowboat. Gina
Oozing history in Cornwall

The Pandora Inn, on the banks of Restronguet creek between Truro and Falmouth, is a fantastic place to watch the world go by. Parts of the pub date back to the 13th century and the flagstone floors and thatched roof ooze history. But for me, the main attraction is the pontoon reaching out into the creek – the perfect place to watch wildlife and the regular clientele arriving by smallboat and kayak. Plus, the cheesy chips are to die for! Matt Croxall
Just wading birds for company, Cumbria
The Bay Horse pub, Ulverston. Photograph: John Morrison/Alamy
One of the best beer gardens and all-round views in the country must be at the Bay Horse on the outskirts of Ulverston. The pub-hotel sits where the Ulverston canal meets the tidal estuary of the River Leven – an idyllic spot between the vast otherworldly expanses of Morecambe Bay and the soaring mountains of the Lake District. Being out of town, it’s often quiet with only wading birds and the odd train for company. Being just outside the national park means the prices are also more Cumbrian (cheap) than at tourist traps in the Lakes. Michael

It’s a fantastic spot for a dog walk and a pint of local cider while the kids paddle in the stream. The inn dates from the 1600s and serves outstanding food (it was once chosen to provide the VIP catering for Glastonbury festival). Jen
The herons of Cambridge know a good pub
The Mill Pond and Granta pub. Photograph: Dave Porter/Alamy
The Granta overlooks the Mill Pond and Sheep’s Green by the River Cam, and, despite being less than half a mile from the city centre, has countryside pub vibes. During the summer, cows may wander freely on the other side of the pond – old grazing rights are still utilised on Cambridge’s commons. Moorhens, mute swans and herons are regular neighbours, the latter often statue-like at the water’s edge. The pub’s terrace offers a chance to relax with a drink while watching over this watering hole. There’s even the chance of a cameo in cobalt from a passing kingfisher: an alternative Cambridge blue. The William Morris at Merton Abbey Mills in Colliers Wood, south London, is a super-friendly pub next to the River Wandle. There is regular live music, lovely independent shops, and children can watch a watermill and learn about water energy. Although there is lots of traffic not too far way, the actual pub, named after the 19th-century textile designer, is a fab watering hole where you can almost forget about London. A short walk away is the National Trust’s Morden Hall Park – you could whet your appetite by going there first. Asa
Winning tip: Aire of excitement in Leeds
Piglove by the River. Photograph: Piglove Brewing Company
Piglove by the River sits in the Leeds’ Climate Innovation District on the River Aire. It’s not just the name that enchants. Owned by two Venezuelans who say they are inspired by the UK’s craft beer tradition, Piglove offers small-batch beers brewed on site, rotating weekend street-food trucks, and a programme of tone-perfect events: quiz nights, spoken word, post-run cool-downs, pride marches, and jazz if you time it right. There’s a greengrocers, mismatched benches, and the sense that something slightly bonkers might happen at any moment. It’s walkable from the city centre, waiting for you to be seduced by the hum of Friday-night gatherings or the scent of pizza wafting over the sunlit water. Eliza Ainley
Passengers who are not on their best behaviour could face jail time or a fine, according to a campaign led by the country’s biggest airports
Passengers have been warned (stock image)(Image: WSFurlan via Getty Images)
Brits jetting off have been warned to be on their best behaviour or their summer holidays could “ruined” this year, officials have warned. A nationwide campaign going around the UK’s airports is encouraging holidaymakers to “fly responsibly” or risk “paying the price”.
With experts predicting this summer to be one of the busiest ever for air travel, the One Too Many campaign is cautioning travellers that having too much alcohol before flying out could result in serious consequences. Promotional material even warned Brits they face jail time if they flout any rules.
Travellers who cause disruption on flights may find themselves denied boarding, hit with a lifetime band or fines of up to £80,000 should their conduct force an aircraft to change course mid-journey. “One too many is all it takes to ruin a holiday, cause a delay, land YOU in jail, cancel a flight, [and/or] divert a plane,” one of the campaign’s warnings said.
The One Too Many campaign resources have been deployed across more than 20 UK airports including London Gatwick, London Heathrow, Manchester, Liverpool, Newcastle and Bristol, reports the Liverpool Echo. The campaign said on its website: “The industry is committed to tackling disruptive behaviour through a voluntary Code of Practice.
“Signatories to the Code work together to prevent and minimise the number of disruptive passenger incidents, and promote a zero-tolerance approach to disruptive behaviour; the identification, pre-emption, management and reporting of disruptive incidents; the responsible sale and consumption of alcohol; and education and communication with passengers.”
Karen Dee, the chief executive of the Airport Operators Association, said: “UK airports are committed to providing a safe and enjoyable travel experience for all passengers. We urge travellers to enjoy their journeys responsibly and not ruin their holidays or the holidays of others. Airports will continue to monitor and act against any disruptive behaviour to ensure everyone’s safety.”
The One Too Many campaign was first launched in 2018, with support from the Government and includes endorsements from the Department for Transport and the Home Office. The campaign came just days after police in the north launched their own campaign to curb boozy Brits who came back from their holidays.
Officers stopped drivers leaving Teesside Airport as part of ‘Operation Take Off’, which targeted passengers who had flown into the airport and had struggled to control their boozing during their flights.
Warnings have been placed in airports such as London Heathrow(Image: Ceri Breeze via Getty Images)
Only one person out of the more than 100 checked was found to have alcohol in their breath. The amount found was below the legal limit, according to police, who gave the person a warning after they admitted to having one glass of wine on board.
Earlier this year, Ryanair called for airports to limit passengers to having no more than two drinks before they board, claiming it would lead to “a safer travel experience for passengers and crews”.
At the time, a spokesperson for Ryanair criticised governments across Europe for what it saw as their “repeated failure to take action when disruptive passengers threaten aircraft safety and force them to divert”. They added: “It is time that European Union authorities take action to limit the sale of alcohol at airports.”
There are certain seats on a plane that could become a nightmare on a long haul flight according to a travel expert – who shared her top tips when it comes to plane seat selection
Travellers are being urged to not selected one specific seat on a plane(Image: Vera Vita via Getty Images)
When going on a long haul flight – experts urge people to never select these certain seats if they want a smooth journey. Flying long haul can already be hard, and it can be made even worse if you choose the wrong seat.
A travel expert has shared some of her top tips when it comes to where to sit on a plan for comfort, sleep quality and less disruptions on a long flight as poor sleep selection can make jet lag worse and leave people exhausted before their holiday has even started.
While people may think the window seat on the end row is the ideal spot for some peace and quiet, tucked away at the back – Dawn Morwood, Co-Director of Cheap Deals Away said “it’s actually a recipe for a miserable flight”.
There are certain seats experts urge people to never opt for(Image: Getty Images)
That back corner window seat might seem like the prime spot when you’re scrolling through the seat map, but it’s actually where comfort goes to die, the expert revealed. Located next to the toilets and galley, it will cause sleep disrupting problems,
“The biggest issue is the constant foot traffic,” Dawn said. “You’ve got passengers queuing for the loo right beside you, flight attendants rushing back and forth with trolleys, and people stretching their legs in the aisle. It never stops.” These seats also don’t recline because there’s a wall directly behind them. On a 10-hour flight to Asia or an 8-hour journey to the States, that upright position becomes torture for your back and makes proper sleep nearly impossible.
Dawn’s expert tips for choosing the perfect long-haul seat
Pick your sweet spot wisely
The best seats are typically in the middle section of the aircraft, she advised, away from both the busy front galley and the chaotic rear area. “Look for seats around rows 6-15 on most wide-body aircraft,” advised Dawn. “You’re far enough from the action but still have easy access to facilities when needed.”
Avoid the bathroom zone
Never book within three rows of any lavatory. The queues, smells and constant activity will make your journey miserable. Check the aircraft’s seat map carefully before selecting.
Choose your side strategically
“If you’re flying eastbound for a daytime arrival, pick a seat on the right side of the plane to avoid the sun streaming through your window during the final hours,” Dawn suggested. “For westbound flights, sit on the left side.”
Consider the exit rows carefully
While exit row seats offer extra legroom, they come with restrictions. You can’t store anything under the seat in front during takeoff and landing, and these seats often don’t recline.
Book early for best selection
“The golden rule is simple – book as early as possible,” says Dawn. “Airlines release their best seats to early bookers, and you’ll have the widest choice of positions.”
The expert said that while the back corner window seat might look appealing on the booking page, “you’ll regret it the moment you try to get comfortable,” and added: “Poor seat selection not only impacts your flight, but your entire trip. If you can’t sleep properly on the plane, you’ll arrive with worse jet lag, feeling cranky and tired. Your first few days of holiday are essentially written off while you recover.”
The price of an Island has lowered drastically and is on the market for less than £300,000 which is a lower than a average London flat – with three beaches and beautiful view
There has been a price drop on this beautiful Scottish Island (Image: Jam Press/Bell Ingram)
A breath-taking Scottish island is up for sale for less than the cost of the average UK house and it’s packed with beaches, forest, and jaw-dropping views.
Eilean Mor, a remote 30-acre island located in Loch Sunart, in the Scottish Highlands, is on the market for £275,000 – cheaper than most three-bed homes and less than half the average London flat, which now sits at over £540,000.
With three cove beaches, a thick forest, and crystal blue waters, Eilean Mor is a haven for wildlife lovers and nature seekers. Seals, otters and sea eagles are often spotted nearby, and the area’s protected status means its rugged beauty is preserved.
But there’s a catch because it’s part of the Sunart Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and Special Area of Conservation (SAC), no planning permission exists for building or development. Still, for those wanting a slice of serenity and natural wonder, it’s a rare gem.
The island has been in the same family for generations and even has links to historical pilgrimages dating back nearly 1,000 years. According to estate agents Bell Ingram: “This captivating island offers a unique blend of natural beauty and historical intrigue, a serene hideaway and a chance to own a piece of Scotland’s wild beauty.”
This isn’t the only Scottish Island up for sale(Image: Bell Ingram / SWNS)
And you don’t need to give up civilisation completely. Just a short 3.5-mile trip from the island is the village of Strontian, which has shops, schools, a café, church, doctor’s surgery and B&Bs.
A bit further afield is Fort William dubbed the “outdoor capital of the UK” – with hiking, skiing, whisky tours and access to Ben Nevis, the UK’s highest mountain.
And if you’ve got a few more million in the bank, another Scottish island is also on sale – Shuna Island, a massive 1,110-acre plot with eight homes, a ruined castle, a working farm and a holiday business, priced at £5.5 million.
Claire Donnelly visited Lake Annecy in France, launching herself down the sides of mountains on an e-bike in pursuit of thrills, strong cheese and delicious wine
When our tour guide asked me if I fancied trying an e-bike – and mentioned that we’d be stopping for cheese and drinks en route – I didn’t need asking twice.
On holiday in the French Alps, staying in a stunning chalet above Lake Annecy, it sounded like a perfect way to spend an afternoon. I pictured myself pootling along flat, leafy trails, taking breaks to marvel at the dazzling, turquoise water or nibbling local cheese while I sipped a glass of wine.
I was heading out with a group and a guide, and after a quick e-bike tutorial – I’d never ridden one before, but our instructor made everything clear – we set off, making our way to the centre of La Clusaz, a charming Alpine village famous for its winter skiing and summer sports.
Claire decided to push herself to her limits(Image: DAILY MIRROR)
So far, so good. This terrain was pretty easy, and I figured that once we left the town behind, we’d start enjoying some cheese and chilled-out cycling vibes. But as our guide zipped through the streets, I realised we were heading to some kind of registration point. When we got there I was given a number to pin on my back and I thought I heard someone say something about ski lifts.
Looking around I noticed a timed finish line, info points and billboards covered in printed route maps… and realised, like an idiot, I’d signed up for what looked suspiciously like an Alpine mountain bike race.
Before I could worry or ask for more details, we were on the move again and heading up, up, up towards the mountain. I live in West Yorkshire, in a valley known for its rugged landscape and killer hills – but even by my Pennine standards, this was steep.
The e-bikes handled the gravel and incline with ease, though, and in a few minutes, we were having our bikes hauled aboard the ski lift and gliding towards the 1500m-high summit. Making our way to the start line, we passed a lot of serious-looking cyclists, checking their smart watches and adjusting their designer shades.
My Aldi cycling shorts and Zara vest were holding up well, but looking down the town seemed a long way away and we were all feeling a bit out of our depth. It was at this point that one of our group revealed that the last time she tried mountain biking she’d fallen off and injured herself, leaving her traumatised, another mentioned she’d not been on a bike of any kind for 20 years.
Our lovely guide reassured us that there were a few races that day and we were joining, the Rando 3 Fromages, a relatively easy 12km version and we could stop or walk whenever we needed to.
Lake Annecy is known as the Venice of the Alps (Image: DAILY MIRROR)
It also has plenty of mountain action higher-up in the hills(Image: DAILY MIRROR)
As he said, we’d spend a couple of hours making our way downhill, stopping off to fortify ourselves with local cheeses, provided by artisan farmers. Held every year for the last four years, the Rondo is the easiest part of a dedicated biking and mountain sports weekend, the Bélier VTT.
It’s one of several that take place here as the region pushes to extend its tourist season, tempting visitors to explore its picture-perfect Alpine villages in the warmer months too. A summer trip is definitely something I’d recommend.
We stayed in an amazing, luxury chalet, perched in the mountains, just above the popular ski base of La Clusaz. Less than an hour’s drive from Geneva airport, we woke every day to crisp fresh air, endless blue sky vistas and the soothing sound of cattle bells.
The popular town of Annecy – dubbed ‘the Venice of the Alps’ – is a short drive or bus journey away too and the weather was perfect. We visited in mid-June. It was glorious, a sunny 27 degrees most days but pleasant and cool in the evening and with no shortage of things to do.
This is a sporty place, where residents and visitors like to keep fit so if biking, hiking, water sports or trail running appeal, you’re in the right place. And today we were joining the Alpine sports crew.
As we hit our first downhill track, littered with giant rocks and with a sheer drop to our left, it’s fair to say we were all absolutely terrified. Our instructor had told us how to tackle these steep inclines – stand up on the pedals, keep your legs straight, use one finger on the sensitive brakes (any more and you’ll fly off) and don’t avoid the rocks, go over them.
There was a lot of wobbling, some swearing and I definitely said a prayer or two – but I followed his advice, and amazingly, it worked. After the first few terrifying descents, I started to find my rhythm and actually embrace the thrill of flying down a mountain on two wheels.
All around us were scenes of vast, panoramic beauty as we rushed past towering pines and delicate alpine blooms, watching farmers herd goats and nudge cattle across the peaks. After a few miles we hit our first cheese station wolfing down freshly cut bread and goat’s cheese, served by local producers.
There was more cheese and more twists and turns on the way down. We crossed gentle streams and lush fields before cycling through a blast of welcome rain on our final, gnarly descent back to the registration point.
I crossed the finish line in just over two hours. I was soaked to the skin, full of the best cheese I’ve ever tasted, covered in mud but somehow still in one piece and beyond elated. It was a high-octane Alpine experience I’ll never forget – and now that my legs have stopped shaking, one I might even repeat next year.
HORRIFYING footage shows the moment a monster who killed his own grandad glassed a punter who confronted him for boasting about his evil crime.
Sick thug Jakob Walpole, 33, killed vintage car expert John Brown, 81, in a brutal attack on his grandfather in Bulkington, Warwickshire.

The “internationally renowned”Jaguarrestoration expert suffered serious head injuries in his home at the hands of Walpole, who was convicted of John’s manslaughter.
Less than four minutes later, Walpole was seen on CCTV footage emerging from the property and from there headed to a village pub.
He stayed at the pub for a matter of minutes before moving on to a working men’s club.
It was here the cowardly thug was also convicted of breaching a restraining order and assaulting two other victims, acourtheard on Wednesday.
Now, footage released showing the cowardly killer boasting about his despicable crime and attacking others has surfaced.
Jurors heard drunken Walpole attacked Dennis Hopson from behind in Bulkington Working Men’s Club after openly speaking about the vicious assault on his grandad.
Drunken Wallpole also “ignored” Mr Hopson’s pleas to moderate his language as he continued to badger the drinker.
He was then caught on “clear” CCTV footage attacking the elderly drinker.
Matters came to a head when Walpole took the victim’s seat before smashing a pint glass over the back of his Hopson’s head after being told to move.
The attack caused cuts to Mr Hopson’s ear, neck and head and prosecutor Michael Duck KC told jurors: “There can be no suggestion (Walpole) was acting in self-defence or anything of that sort.”
Chilling moment evil killer wipes bloody nose after stabbing man, 19, to death in street brawl before he fled UK
A barman was then punched in the face as he frogmarched Walpole out of the club.
“Belligerent” Walpole was arrested for all three attacks later the same night.
He remained abusive throughout the process and “booking in” at a police station, the court heard.
Jurors were also shown “haunting” footage of “world-renowned” restoration expert John pleading for help on a security camera before he was attacked by Walpole.
Earlier that evening, Walpole had been seen on CCTV arriving at John’s bungalow, before going inside and attacking the pensioner.
The pensioner could be seen waving at the camera – said to be linked to his daughter, Walpole’s mum – while in the garden before heading inside.
Mr Duck told jurors: “John Brown is Jakob Walpole’s grandfather. He was a frail man and he had recently been diagnosed with the early stages of dementia.
“He was plainly a vulnerable individual and the evidence will demonstrate that this defendant was acutely aware of that.”

John was well known in the local community, having run a successful car panel and body repair business due to his expertise in respect of vintage cars, the court heard.
Police summoned to the bungalow by John’s daughter, Lynda Brown, found the pensioner “dazed and confused” and with significant injuries to his face and arms.
Despite being rushed to hospital, over the following hours John suffered a bleed on the brain as a result of the attack and passed away six days later.
Walpole had also attended a match at Coventry City‘s home stadium that lunchtime before visiting local pubs in the run-up to the spree of violence.
Concerns about Walpole’s “deteriorating behaviour” had led to a security camera being installed at his grandparents’ home address in Bulkington.
He was also already subject to a restraining order when he carried out the attack on his grandfather.
‘ACT OF COWARDICE’
Walpole, of School Road, Bulkington, Warwickshire, will be sentenced next Monday.
Commenting after the case, Natalie Kelly, from the Crown Prosecution Service, said: “Jakob Walpole carried out a senseless and brutal attack on his own grandfather who had tried to help him.
“He showed no concern or remorse following the attack.
“Rather than call for help, he callously left his vulnerable and elderly grandfather severely injured and went to a local pub where he assaulted two further elderly victims.
“Everyone who knew Mr Brown saw how much he did for his grandson, often going out of his way to care and support him – but Walpole simply took advantage of his kindness.
“While this conviction ensures Walpole is held accountable for his actions, the family have been left with a deep and lasting pain that no justice can erase.”
Detective Inspector Gareth Unett, who led the investigation for Warwickshire Police, said: “John Brown was a kind, gentle, hardworking man whose loss has left a huge void in the lives of his loved ones and friends.
“Not only was he loved greatly by all those around him, he was known internationally as one of the best restorers of classic Jaguars.
“The legacy he leaves is not only in the love and generosity he showed to those around him, but also in the countless classic cars that will survive for generations more thanks to his work.
“Walpole’s attack on his grandfather, who had shown him nothing but kindness and generosity, was an act of cowardice and brutality that, in decades of policing, I struggle to find a comparison for.”

LONDON Heathrow Airport has revealed their multi-billion masterplan for the extension of the airport including the controversial third runway.
The huge project is expected to cost nearly £50million, if given the go-ahead by the government.

A third runway, new terminal and upgraded M25 access are the major parts of the projectCredit: Heathrow
The major new upgrade will be the £21billion third runway, which is set to be operational in the next 10 years.
This is the same estimation of costs predicted in 2014 of £14billion, when adjusted for inflation.
The new 3,500 metre runway will be in the northwest of the airport, and will eventually welcome up to 276,000 new flights a year.
This takes the annual flights from 480,000 to 756,000, with as many as 30 new flight routes a day.
Read more on new airports
It could even welcome more budget airlines, such as easyJet who have expressed desires to launch from London Heathrow with the expansion.
easyJet boss Kenton Jarvis said: “I’ve always thought Heathrow would fit our network of primary airports with great catchment areas.
“It would be a unique opportunity to operate from Heathrow at scale and give us an opportunity to provide lower fares for UK consumers that currently at Heathrow just have the option of flag carriers.”
The airport suggests this could save as much as £79billion over three decades with the addition of low-cost airlines.
A new £15billion terminal complex will also be built, called T5XW and T5XN.
The creation of the new terminals will also see T1 and T3 demolished, and T2 expanded, at the cost of £15billion.
London Heathrow reveal top airport security tips
In total, the entire project is expected to cost as much as £49billion.
As many as 150million passengers could then be using the airport, up from 84million.
The airport hopes to get planning permission by 2029, if ministers allow the proposal to go ahead.
Other parts of the renovation include a 50 per cent in cargo capacity, and and larger access for buses and trains.
One of the biggest concerns is the access around the M25, a notoriously busy motorway.

However Heathrow has hit back at the plansCredit: Arora Group / Bechtel
The improvement plans also include the widening the M25 near the Heathrow junctions (at a cost of £1.5billion) which will see a new section in a tunnel under the runway to reduce congestion.
A similar road layout is already in place at Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris.
Arora Group – a major Heathrow landowner – proposed a shorter third runway which would eliminate the need to reroute the M25.
Rather than being 3,500 metres in length, it would be just 2,800 metres.
The plans also include a new T6 terminal, with the full project estimated at £25million – half the cost of the official LondonHeathrow plans.
Mr Surinder Arora explained in regards to the ‘Heathrow West’ plan: “I am proud to unveil the Heathrow West proposal which meets the UK’s ambition to grow its only hub airport while delivering on time and on budget.”
He added that the Arora Group had a “track record of delivering on-time and on-budget projects including in and around Heathrow airport.”
However, London Heathrow refuted their suggestions in the their own proposal, saying “any other proposal would not have this extensive public scrutiny and policy backing, risking years of delay and judicial review which mean the Government’s timetable would be undeliverable.”
They also said that shorter runways “do not necessarily cost less” as the different location would require buying more residential properties with compensation costs not factored in.

Work & Purpose – The Sun
You are entering your most powerful and successful era!
The Sun is a bringer of success, prosperity, joy, and ambition, almost inviting you to enter a realm of reward by making a confident step through a portal.
You need to apply, pitch, ask, challenge, or create something- almost like a sacrifice or ritual.
If you do it boldly, led by hope not fear, you will be met with great success.
International opportunities are also possible.
Omen to look out for – Nine of Cups
Look for the number 9 or repeats of it.
Look for symbols of wish making and dream fulfilment i.e. stars, magic lamps, genies, fairies etc.
Look out for a situation where you need a dash of luck to succeed.
If you notice one of these omens then you’re in the right place at the right time to get what you most want.
Take a step right THERE AND THEN.

13
You can win whatever game you choose to play this July
Love & Relationships – Ten of Coins
All Taureans crave stability, certainty, and control- it’s hardwired into their nature.
The Ten of Coins delivers these much-sought things into your love life this August via proposals, commitments, declarations, intimate connections, legal agreements, and shared goals.
If you’re single, then a solid, loving fellow Earth sign (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn) could enter your realm and become your ‘everything’.
A happy ever after in love awaits.
Work & Purpose – The Lovers
You feel a bit confused about your direction this August- maybe a head vs heart schism about your path or next step.
Take your time, don’t be pressured into a snap judgement.
Do the mental gymnastics and research to understand your situation, options, and potential fully, and wait until you feel clear and calm about a certain option.
And then, and only then, take decisive action.
Omen to look out for – Queen of Wands
Look out for women who inspire, excite, or wildly entertain you.
Listen to them carefully.
Look out for Fire sign folk (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius) who invite you someplace.
Look out for course, books, shows or podcasts about leadership.
If you notice one of these omens then you’re being advice, opportunity or insight that will help you to rise, take ownership, and fulfil a leadership role you’re destined for.
Gemini
Step back, learn more, and let the universe show its hand – Gemini, this month is a masterclass.
13
You are rising, this is your time
Love & Relationships – Three of Wands
Step back from the pressure or expectation that it’s YOU who has to do all of the organising, fun-creation, and effort.
Let things swing as they would without your 24/7 influence, and see what’s really there.
Sometimes you do too much for others, and it’s taken for granted.
The Three of Wands shows that August will bring plenty of openings for folk to show you their true feelings and intentions towards you.
Work & Purpose – Page of Pentacles
Education is your BFF.
All Geminis love learning and studying- you never really left that school mentality.
The Page of Coins wants you back in the classroom, potentially for career (re)training, or even personal development.
Whether it’s formal or informal will depend on your circumstance and opportunity, but however you do it, seek education and stimulate your mind with new knowledge and skill.
What you learn could take you places!
Omen to look out for – The High Priestess
Look for the number 2 or repeats of it.
Look for couples who catch your eye, and ask yourself why.
Look out for psychic experiences or interludes, uncanny or strange occurrences, and notice where you were / what you were doing.
If you notice one of these omens then you’re receiving instruction from a higher being about what is important for you in relationships vs what you need to do / own / work on solo.
Cancer
See the truth, honour your intuition, and glow up – Cancer, August is a mirror and a map.
13
Coincidence, creativity, and collaboration
Love & Relationships – Seven of Cups
Avoid the temptation to retreat into your Cancerian exoskeleton shell and spend more time thinking, vs doing anything, about your love life and key relationships.
You can project, assume, overthink. It doesn’t do any good. Instead, verify, discuss, ask, challenge, check.
Get clarity on where you stand and take steps from that point (not what you imagine to be the case).
Work & Purpose – Three of Wands
Luck, karma and fate are conspiring to bring you new news and ideas this August, so let them do their thing and don’t get in the way!
Tune into your intuition and gut instinct (which is very powerful for you).
Notice random events or acts, coincidence, omens and signs. Pay attention to your dreams.
Decipher messages and nudges and signposting from the psychic intel you receive!
Use it and new doors will open!
Omen to look out for – Judgement
Look out the number 20 or repeats of it (maybe in year format i.e. 2025).
Look out for mirrors, reflective surfaces that show you clearly or in a flattering light.
Look out for descriptions of you, your star sign maybe, or personality type that really resonate.
If you notice one of these omens then you are being told to update and upgrade your self image.
You are more powerful, beautiful, smart, and talented than you currently think.
Get up to speed on your magnificence!
Leo
Step into your power, Leo – this month, your creativity and confidence light the way to exciting new beginnings.
13
You feel empowered to make those big decisions
Love & Relationships – Two of Wands
You are always popular and in demand, both in friendships, family circles, and romance.
It’s time for you to know and act on the relationship priorities that you most value and wish to serve or build.
Know your inner circle, your key folk, and treat them as such.
Don’t get distracted or taken offline by new projects or faces.
Show loyalty and commitment and it will be returned tenfold, because you ARE loved.
Work & Purpose – Knight of Coins
August, despite being holiday season, might feel like hard work for you but the rewards will all be worthwhile so keep your nose to the grindstone… and then celebrate when the job is done, you’ll feel all the better for it.
Be determined and diligent in your efforts, whether this is related to career tasks, education or personal projects.
It will be demanding, but it will also be rewarding, and that’s a happy balance.
Omen to look out for – King of Cups
Look for dreams about love and romance, and notice WHO you’re dreaming about and how you feel.
Look for instant sparks and attractions with strangers.
Look out for chance encounters with someone you’re immediately fascinated by.
If you notice one of these omens you could be meeting or about to (re)connect with your future soul mate!
If you’re single (even if you’re not…) this could be IT!
Virgo
Justice, closure, and a second chance you didn’t see coming – Virgo, it’s time to reset.
13
Green lights all round to go for your dreams!
Love & Relationships – Justice
Play fair, be nice, stay on the straight and narrow, but don’t sacrifice yourself or your desires and needs to keep the peace either.
Balance is what is needed.
Maybe you’ve been ridden over too many times, maybe you’ve crossed lines you shouldn’t have.
Be honest and admit where there have been injustices in your close relationships recently.
What can you learn here? What could you change?
If you’re single, a beautiful Libran soul will enter your realm and perfectly suite in with your lifestyle.
Work & Purpose – Four of Cups
I think you feel a little complacent, maybe even bored or tired of your role or projects.
This happens.
We get a bit burnt out, we hit a wall, we need a change.
Use August as a refresher month.
See things with new eyes, get a fresh take on stuff, take a break and return with clear vision and a rested mindset.
If you can get away and take a complete break, then do.
You are renewing and restoring your energies.
Omen to look out for – Eight of Cups
Look for the number 8, or repeats of it.
Look for second chances, repeats, reruns, reinventions of old ideas in new guises.
Look out for memories or echoes of situations where you missed out on something but, maybe just maybe, it was for the best in hindsight.
If you notice any of these omens then you’re being given a chance.
Libra
Solitude, strategy, and a smart plan forward – Libra, this is your long game era.
13
You have everything you need; now make it work for you
Love & Relationships – The Hemit
Solitude is a great healer and restorer. A little absence makes the heart grow fonder.
Giving someone the gift of missing you is often enough to reset the dynamic and return that loving feeling.
Don’t be scared to withdraw and get some peace and quiet, don’t be nervous of creating a boundary.
The Hermit hints you need space.
You need solitude so you can think (and so can they…).
Work & Purpose – King of Swords
It’s a good month to make a 10 (or 5) year plan!
What’s the goal, the key objective? What’s the strategy to achieve it? What are the tactics and timescale?
The King of Swords brings precise thought, clarity, inspiration, and innovation to your realm, helping you future proof and create shrewd plans of attack to get where you want to be- wherever that is!
This is a planning and research month.
Omen to look out for – Five of wands
Look for the number 5 or repeats of it.
Look for the feeling of frustration and resentment, sit with it, and notice who or what it sticks to.
Look out for situations where you feel stuck / overwhelmed / done to / stagnated.
If you see any of these signs, then you’re being shown first things first, the places you’ve outgrown and can immediately withdraw from.
Act on this insight.
Scorpio
Challenge accepted – Scorpio, this month you win, lead, and love on your own terms.
13
A breakthrough is coming
Love & Relationships – Seven of Wands
There is competitive energy in your relationship realm, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing.
Sometimes it serves to be tested or tempted or offered a challenge which helps you rise to the occasion!
Look out for people who inspire new ideas or energy in your love life or friendships.
Look out for sparky Fire signs (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius) who motivate you to BE different.
Maybe this August’s love life move is to set your own goal or target and MAKE it happen!
Work & Purpose – Ten of Coins
If I said it would ALL be alright in the end and you’re destined for riches no matter what, then what power move would you confidently make?
Perhaps THAT is the step you’re destined to take this August.
The Ten of Coins promises a career and wealth happy ever after, as long as you stick to the plan and deliver consistently against it.
Be measured, well paced, and keep showing up, and people will believe in you, invest in you, and help you get where you want to go.
Respect is earned over time.
Omen to look out for – Ten of Wands
Look for the number 10 or combinations of it.
Look out for thins which have deflated, wilted, melted, or withered.
Notice places which look invitingly relaxing and comforting. Notice safe sanctuaries and rest zones.
If you notice one of these omens then you’re being invited to activate a phase of deep rest and hibernation- maybe for a hour, maybe for a weekend- you decide.
Rest is restorative right now.
Sagittarius
This is your month, Sagittarius – new people, powerful insights, and journey.
13
Assertiveness is what’s needed
Love & Relationships – Ace of Wands
It’s all new on the relationship front! New friends, admirers, family members, colleague, allies, and acquaintances.
These folk are being drawn into your life for a reason: to help you initiate new projects, roles, and growth.
It’s a time to travel with friends, plan a major life change with a loved one, embark on a new hobby in a group setting.
Look out for inspiring and charismatic Fire sign folk (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius) that you feel an immediate attraction towards.
Work & Purpose – Judgement
Judgement brings a deep and lasting sense of clarity to your realm.
You feel like you really understand your unique blend of experience, talent, skill, interest, and proven ability.
You know the niche for you!
When this is so blindingly clear, it’s so much easier to embrace that identity wholly, and to feel every inch of yourself authentically.
And this identity fit leads you to new opportunities because you’re vibrating NEXT LEVEL, attracting the opportunities meant ONLY for you.
A powerful August.
Omen to look out for – The Chariot
Look out for the number 7, or repeats of it.
Look out for unusual, outlandish, antique, or eye-catching vehicles.
Look out for trips, holidays, outings, excursions, and events that feel aligned to your emerging sense of identity and purpose.
If you notice one of these omens then you’re given a golden opportunity to travel or visit someplace that will UNLOCK vast new areas of potential for you.
Capricorn
Solo focus, big joy, and a lucky break – Capricorn, August helps you get ahead.
13
Discover your path to success
Love & Relationships – Queen of Swords
The Queen of Swords is all about solo and independent power and fortitude.
Sometimes you just so better flying solo, right?
Sometimes your own company is the best fuel and energy to help you get done what needs doing!
That’s not to say you shut off from family, love or friendship, but you MUST make time for your own projects and goals, by yourself, this August.
Your relationships will benefit from you being the best version of you!
Work & Purpose – Three of Cups
Wouldn’t it be great if work felt like play?
That’s kind of the ultimate goal, because then time becomes precious.
Time crawls when you have a job whereas it flies when you have a vocation.
Is it time to find that vocation for yourself?
The Three of Cups simply asks you to focus on, as much asp possible, what you love and enjoy doing in work or education.
Amplify the interests.
Excel in the areas you’re already talented and proficient.
Build on success and joy, and create an awesome career.
Omen to look out for – Three of Wands
Look for the number 3, or repeats of it.
Look for coincidence and de ja vu.
Look out for invitations that come from weird or totally unexpected sources.
If you notice one of these omens then you’re being gifted a golden opportunity to do something new that will lead to a new upwards trajectory in career, education, or both.
It’s time to get lucky and get ahead.
Aquarius
Truth, talent, and total alignment – Aquarius, it’s time to create something real.
13
New outlook = new opportunity
Love & Relationships – Seven of Cups
Overthinking rarely leads you anywhere good, useful, or worthwhile, in fact it often leads you in circles.
Your sign is famed for purity and honesty, so just get clarity on whatever feels murky.
Ask questions. Seek truth.
Understand the situation vs assuming or projecting.
Look out for creative Water signs (Pisces, Cancer, Scorpio) this August, a true alliance could be forged.

Omen to look out for – Three of Swords
Look out for the number 3 or repeats of it.
Look out for gut feelings of disquiet or distrust about someone or something.

If you notice one of these omens then you being shown a situation that is not what it seems and carries negative potential. Remove yourself.
Act on your hunch. Protect your interests.
Pisces
Grow stronger, think bigger, and expand your realm – Pisces, August brings new purpose.
13
Wonderful relationships unlock new opportunities
Love & Relationships – Page of Coins
There’s a real earnestness and desire to do better emerging in your relationship realm, on all levels, with family, friends and in love.
If we all tried a bit harder and repaired past damage and did better in future, how amazing could our alliances and support network become?
What if we all took that vow together?
Pisces, make this happen in your world. It could create the strongest relationship network EVER, with you in the middle of it, beautifully supported and loved.
Work & Purpose – Eight of Swords
Stop worrying about what others might think or say.
That is their business, not your business.
And your assumptions and projections really reveal more about your own insecurity or fear than the truth or reality of things.
So, stop, press pause on that kind of thinking.
Refocus on what you know, on what is happening, on the events and outcomes you’re managing.
And craft steps and actions that serve those realities directly, clearly, and positively.
A bit of focus will change everything.
Omen to look out for – The World
Look out for the number 21 or repeats of it.
Look out for trips, outings, vacation ideas, and journey inspirations that speak directly to a passion or goal in your realm.
Look out for stories, shows, and podcasts about something overseas that fascinates you.
If you notice one of these omens then you’re being asked to broaden your horizons, consider going someplace to do something stretching, or even moving location!
TEMPLEGATE takes on Friday’s racing from Glorious Goodwood confident of success after banging in a 28-1 treble on Thursday.
Back a horse by clicking their odds below.
FIFTH COLUMN (2.30 Goodwood, nap)
John Gosden has a nice three-year-old on his hands in this son of Kingman. He showed promise last season and got off the mark in a Kempton maiden on comeback in April. That form was quickly left behind with a smooth handicap success at Sandown – before an excellent effort in the Britannia at Royal Ascot. He was only seventh in that hot contest but he was first home in his group getting the worst of the draw. He clocked a personal best when winning at Newmarket last time and relishes this mile trip. He goes on any ground so it won’t matter what the weather does.
BIG MOJO (3.05 Goodwood, nb)
Likes it here and can show his class in the King George Qatar Stakes.
DIEGO VENTURA (1.55 Goodwood, treble)
He is just about the only runner in the field who is proven in testing conditions – and looks set to get just that.
Templegate’s TV verdicts
1.20
KYLE OF LOCHALSH is fancied to go three better than last year’s fourth and land this marathon prize.
He’s on the same mark, handles any ground and shaped with promise on his reappearance.
He’s much more lightly raced than 12 months ago and looks primed to peak.
Aggagio loves it round here and was impressive under Ashley Lewis last time but stamina beyond 2m remains a question mark.
Align The Stars hasn’t quite fired this year but ran well in a strong Royal Ascot handicap and is lurking on a handy mark.
He has a good record here but came up short in this last year.
Tashkhan is classy and thrives in deep ground should it rain, with similar comments applying to Zinc White.
Sheradann has been knocking on the door and shapes as though this trip will suit.
Irish raider Mordor is interesting as this stamina test could bring improvement.
1.55
DIEGO VENTURA is just about the only runner in the field who is proven in testing conditions.
James Doyle’s mount has been running well at Listed level in France and scored over seven furlongs at Longchamp in May.
He then went well at Epsom before going down in a bunch finish at Chantilly last time.
Conditions will be ideal and he has more to come.
Cosmic Year has shown his best on good ground as he showed when second in the Irish 2,000 Guineas which is strong form.
The ground may not be ideal but this is a fair drop in class which makes him a player.
King Of Cities has been placed on tacky ground and sees out this trip well.
He has yet to win this season but could go well under Ryan Moore.
Seagulls Eleven was a solid second to non-runner Opera Ballo at Newmarket last time.
He’s unproven on this ground and needs a step forward.
2.30
FIFTH COLUMN can take another step up for the Gosdens.
His only defeat this season came when a strong-finishing seventh in the Britannia at Royal Ascot, where he won his group and shaped like the best horse on the far side.
He confirmed that when winning stylishly at Newmarket last time, and a 3lb penalty might not be enough to anchor this improving three-year-old who can beat his elders.
Skukuza is the main threat.
He’s officially 8lb well in after two smooth wins at The Curragh, including a Listed last time, and is clearly thriving.
Greek Order ran a screamer in the Royal Hunt Cup on his first start back from the US and again shaped well at Sandown behind Arisaig who is a contender here.
He’s a big player if things fall right. Ebt’s Guard has run well here before and wasn’t beaten far in the Royal Hunt Cup.
3.05
BIG MOJO can follow up last year’s Glorious Goodwood win in the King George Qatar Stakes.
Mick Appleby’s flyer ran a cracker at Newmarket last time and looks up to this level.
Aussie Asfoora will show her true colours here after a poor Ascot run, while She’s Quality lives up to her name.
Here’s my guide to the field, where I rate them one (worst) to five (best):
ASFOORA 4
FOOR star. Aussie raider won the King Charles III at Royal Ascot last year was just denied in this. Had excuses this year and could bounce back.
BIG MOJO 5
BIG chance. Won Molecomb here last year and has progressed at three. Unlucky in the Commonwealth Cup and ran a huge race in the July Cup. Strong claims back at 5f.
CELANDINE 2
HARD Cel. Chased home Big Mojo in last year’s Molecomb and beat Time For Sandals over 6f at York. Needs to prove she enjoys 5f as much.
CLARENDON HOUSE 1
DON for. Has run well over this C&D before but was poor at Epsom last time and needs more at this level.
FROST AT DAWN 3
HOT Frost. Won 6f Listed race earlier this season and showed real speed when second in the King Charles III at Royal Ascot. Can go close again.
JM JUNGLE 2
JUNGLE fever. Won over C&D at this meeting in 2023 and landed the Epsom Dash in June. Ran well in Listed last time but not up to this.
KERDOS 3
TAKE Ker. Fifth in this race last year and good run in the King Charles III. Likes tacky ground and cheekpieces may help.
KHAADEM 3
KHA motors. Won this in 2022 and has landed two Group 1s. He’s unbeaten in two runs here and looks a big place price.
MANACCAN 1
DANGER Man. Solid Listed performer over this trip but has been struggling for a while.
NIGHT RAIDER 3
NIGHT shifts. Unbeaten in four AW starts including a Listed 6f at Newcastle. Turf form not as hot but it’s early days.
SHE’S QUALITY 4
QUALITY pays. Ran a stormer when second in a hot Group 2 at Haydock in May. Sandown didn’t suit last time and this test looks much more suitable.
SPARTAN ARROW 2
BLUNT arrow. Has improved since sporting cheekpieces and took a French Listed prize latest. Goes well here and track/trip suits but this is much tougher opposition.
TIME FOR SANDALS 3
TIME trial. Surprise winner of the Commonwealth Cup over 6f at Ascot. Could improve again but drop in trip an unknown.
TOWN AND COUNTRY 1
TOWN and out. Few miles on the clock and is a Listed winner over this trip. Progressive but needs a lot more in this company.
3.45
SOCIALITE can get the party started.
Charlie Hills’ four-year-old can take this prize with a bold front-running show.
He quickened smartly to win at Windsor on handicap debut, shaping as though this extra furlong would suit.
Lightly raced, progressive and effective on any ground, he could prove tough to pass from a handy draw.
Liberty Lane is the main danger, with a soft-ground Cambridgeshire win and a Listed success here this year marking him out as a serious player.
Haunted Dream won this race last year and had excuses at Royal Ascot. He’s a big threat back at this track.
Godwinson is thriving after wins in the Lincoln and at Newcastle. He’ll be right there if liking this longer trip.
Fox Legacy is flying and isn’t written off provided the rain stays away.

Dua, who has won seven Brit awards and three Grammys, said that she did not know she could sing until a teacher at the Sylvia Young Theatre School told her how good she was.
Actors who attended her classes include Keeley Hawes, Doctor Who’s Matt Smith, Nicholas Hoult, who is in the latest Superman blockbuster, and Emmy-nominated Adolescence and Top Boy star Ashley Walters.
The school was also a conveyor belt for EastEnders stars, with Nick Berry, Letitia Dean, Adam Woodyatt and Dean Gaffney all passing through its doors.
READ MORE ON DRAMA SCHOOLS
Stage fright
But there were problems along the way. In 1998 one of the drama masters was arrested for indecent assault, and the company struggled to survive the Covid shutdown.
The pressures of fame also proved too much for some former pupils, including the late Winehouse and EastEnders’ original Mark Fowler, David Scarboro, who was found at the bottom of cliffs as Beachy Head in East Sussex in 1988.
Sylvia, though, was loved by her former pupils, many of whom paid tribute to the “backstage matriarch”.
Keeley Hawes wrote: “I wouldn’t have the career I have today without her help”.
And All Saints singer Nicole Appleton commented: “This is going to really affect us all who were lucky enough to be part of her amazing world growing up. What a time, the best memories.”
DJ Tony Blackburn added: “She was a very lovely lady who I had the privilege of knowing for many years. She will be sadly missed.”
Winehouse Shows Star Quality
Actress Sadie Frost commented online: “What a woman, what a family, what a legacy! Sending everyone so much love and support. She was always so lovely to me.”
And TV and radio presenter Kate Thornton said she “meant so much to so many”.
Sylvia did not boast about the success of her students and the school’s website does not mention its incredible roster of ex-pupils.
But it is hard to imagine a single drama teacher ever having as much impact as her. Sylvia’s two daughters, Alison and Frances Ruffelle, who are directors of the theatre school, said: “Our mum was a true visionary.
“She gave young people from all walks of life the chance to pursue their performing arts skills to the highest standard.
“Her rare ability to recognise raw talent and encourage all her students contributed to the richness of today’s theatre and music world, even winning herself an Olivier Award along the way.”

Sylvia made it to the top of the British entertainment industry the hard way.
She was the eldest of nine children born to Abraham Bakal, a tailor’s presser, and housewife Sophie in London’s East End. Born in 1939 just after the outbreak of World War Two she remembered the air raid sirens during the Blitz of the capital.
She was evacuated to a village near Barnsley during the war, only returning home once it was over.
At the local library she was gripped by reading plays and would meet up with friends to perform them.
While still at school she joined a theatre group in North London, but her dreams of treading the boards in the West End were dashed by stage fright.
She said: “I used to lose my voice before every production. When I think about it, they were sort of panic attacks.”
Instead, she married telephone engineer Norman Ruffell in 1961 and stayed at home to look after their two daughters.
When Alison and Frances attended primary school, Sylvia started teaching drama to their fellow pupils. It cost just ten pence and the kids also got a cup of orange squash and a biscuit.
Word spread and when her students got the nickname the Young-uns, Sylvia decided to adopt the surname Young for business purposes.
The first Sylvia Young Theatre School was set up in 1981 in Drury Lane in the heart of London’s theatre district.
Two years later, it moved to a former church school in Marylebone in central London, where most of its famous pupils got their start.
Even though it is fee-paying, everyone has to pass an audition — and only one in 25 applicants are successful.

It costs up to £7,000 per term for full-time students and only has places for 250 pupils aged ten to 16.
There are bursaries and fee reductions for pupils from less well-off backgrounds, plus a Saturday school and part-time classes.
Sylvia was always keen to avoid it being a school for rich kids.
When she took an assembly she would ask pupils, “What mustn’t we be?”, and they would shout back, “Stage school brats”.
Keeping kids level-headed when stardom beckoned was also important for the teacher.
She said: “I offer good training and like to keep the students as individual as possible.
“We develop a lot of confidence and communication skills. Of course they want immediate stardom, but they’re not expecting it. You don’t find notices up here about who’s doing what. It is actually played down tremendously.”
‘Baby Spice was lovely’
A need for discipline even applied to Sylvia’s daughter Frances, who she expelled from the school.
Frances clearly got over it, going on to have a career in musical theatre and representing the United Kingdom in the 1994 Eurovision Song Contest, finishing tenth.
Those genes were strong, with Frances’ daughter, stage name Eliza Doolittle, having a Top Five hit with Pack Up in 2010.
The ever-rebellious Amy Winehouse, who died in 2011 aged 27 from accidental alcohol poisoning, claimed to have been kicked out, too.
She said: “I was just being a brat and being disruptive and so on. I loved it there, I didn’t have a problem, I just didn’t want to conform.
“And they didn’t like me wearing a nose piercing.”
But Sylvia did not want Amy to leave. She said: “She would upset the academic teachers, except the English teacher who thought she’d be a novelist. She seemed to be just loved. But she was naughty.”
Other singers were clearly inspired by their time at the school, which moved to new premises in Westminster in 2010.

Dua Lipa, who went to the Saturday school from the age of nine, was asked to sing in front of other pupils shortly after joining.
She said, “I was terrified”, but that the vocal coach “was the first person to tell me I could sing”.
Talent scouts and casting agents would put up requests on the notice board at the school. One such posting led to Emma Bunton joining the Spice Girls.
Of Baby Spice, Sylvia said: “She got away with whatever she could. But she was a lovely, happy-go-lucky individual with a sweet singing voice.”
Groups were also formed by Sylvia’s ex-pupils.
All Saints singer Melanie Blatt became best friends with Nicole Appleton at Sylvia Young’s and brought her in when her band needed new singers in 1996.
But Melanie was not complimentary about the school, once saying: “I just found the whole thing really up its own arse.”
Casting agents did, however, hold the classes in very high regard.
The professionalism instilled in the students meant that producers from major British TV shows such as EastEnders and Grange Hill kept coming back for more.
