A woman has shared her annoyance after she was ‘yelled at’ by another train passenger for not moving her bag – but she claims she did nothing wrong and the other woman was just ‘rude’

A woman has claimed she was “yelled at” on a train for refusing to move her bag. Taking the train can be a nifty alternative to driving, but it’s not without its hitches. Especially during rush hour, trains can become packed, leaving some passengers standing due to a lack of seats.
It’s generally considered good manners to clear bags from adjacent seats when trains fill up, allowing fellow travellers to sit. Bags can be held or stowed in overhead compartments or on luggage racks under these circumstances. But one woman found herself perplexed when another passenger confronted her for not moving her bag while commuting home from work, and she chose not to oblige their demand.
In a TikTok video, Tasha recounted that she had a “pretty big” bag with her, but upon boarding the train, “loads of seats were available”. She sat in an empty two-seater and didn’t think much of it.
Tasha emphasised that she didn’t place her bag on the neighbouring seat but kept it on her lap, ensuring that if someone needed the space next to her, it was accessible for them to sit.
At the next stop, Tasha encountered a rather peculiar situation when another lady got on the train and sat “right next” to her despite many empty seats. Tasha tried to compact her bag to make more room, but was baffled as to why this woman chose to sit beside her.
Shortly after, while Tasha was unwinding and gazing out of the window, she got an abrupt nudge from the woman, who then began to yell at her to shift her bag.

Reflecting on the incident, Tasha recounted: “I look at her in shock and she goes, ‘Move your f***ing bag’. She came in strong, she was not playing.
“Bear in mind, it’s one of those long bags, and I was literally trying to push it together for the whole journey. It’s not like I’d just dumped my massive bag on my lap.”
Despite Tasha’s apology and attempt to “compress” her bag as neatly as possible, explaining that it was packed full, it wasn’t satisfactory for the irate commuter, who resorted to cursing and escalating her tone, insisting on moving the bag.
Tasha suggested multiple alternative seats, showing the woman where she could sit with ample space.
However, the woman persisted, arguing that it wasn’t about the availability of seats, as Tasha doesn’t “own” them. Things intensified, and after another attempted shove, Tasha reached her limit and decided to relocate herself.
She recounted her fear saying: “I thought, I’m actually scared of you. As much as I want to stand my ground, I’m worried you’re going to do something. I just got my stuff and moved to an empty seat. And not one [other passenger] said a thing, even though I could see people were literally gobsmacked.”
Followers expressed their support for Tasha, lamenting that she was forced to change seats and urging her to inform the British Transport Police about the ordeal.
One commenter posted: “She was absolutely looking to pick a fight with you. I’d call British Transport Police, give them the details of the train. There’s surely CCTV. This is assault, and she can’t get away with it.”
Another sympathiser remarked: “Sadly, there are people in this world who are just so miserable and out to cause hurt for other people. Don’t let people like this get in your head.”
The British Transport Police can be contacted to report various incidents that take place on public transport, such as lost or found items, hate crime, antisocial behaviour, or sexual offences.
Aviva Grand Central has announced plans for a new service that would link up Newcastle and Brighton for the first time. It is likely to be up and running from December 2026

A new train route would directly link two cities at opposite ends of the country.
Aviva Grand Central has announced plans for a new service that would link up Newcastle and Brighton for the first time. The new railway journey would directly connect the south coast with the northeast, travelling via Birmingham, York and London Gatwick.
It would mean that travellers would no longer need to change trains in London, saving time and effort for those fancying a trip north or south. Arriva’s Grand Central brand has submitted an application to the Office of Rail and Road (ORR) for permission to start the new service.
Although the travel time hasn’t been revealed yet, the current average journey time from Brighton to Newcastle is four hours and 20 minutes. It is likely that the trip would be quicker without a stop in the middle. If the request is approved, then the service is likely to be up and running five times a day in each direction from December next year.

Paul Hutchings, managing director of Arriva UK Trains’ rail services, said: “We’re committed to connecting communities and enabling more people to travel in ways that are convenient and sustainable, so we’re very pleased to be submitting this application for the first direct service between Newcastle and Brighton, opening up new travel opportunities and making better use of available network capacity – all while building on Grand Central’s proud history of connecting traditionally underserved communities.”
Each of the new trains will have capacity for 300 passengers, including luggage space for airport travellers, in addition to on-board catering, wi-fi and charging points. There is plenty for Geordies visiting Brighton to look forward to, and vice versa. Check out our guides to both cities, which include a rundown of the best things to do in both.
The new route will also provide a direct train link to Gatwick for towns in the North East and Midlands such as Northallerton, Warwick and Burton-on-Trent. That means an extended list of destinations abroad for those customers to choose from.
Jonathan Pollard, chief commercial officer of Gatwick Airport, said: ‘We welcome Arriva’s exploration of a regular service between London Gatwick, the Midlands and North East, and are excited about the opportunities this proposed service could bring.
“London Gatwick is keen to encourage passengers to use public transport and this enhanced connectivity would support underserved areas, while strengthening and growing our catchment. London Gatwick already boasts an extensive network supported by strong relationships with transport providers, making the airport the best connected in the UK by public transport.”
Grand Central currently runs services connecting Sunderland and Bradford with London King’s Cross. The Sunderland service runs via Hartlepool, Eaglescliffe, Northallerton, Thirsk, York and Peterborough.
A UK beach has been named a destination dupe for a beautiful seaside spot in the South of France. A holiday firm reckons both make for a “perfect off-grid getaway”

A beach in Devon has been dubbed a “perfect off-grid getaway” and likened to a stunning seaside spot in the South of France. According to holiday firm, both destinations offer an idyllic retreat. Travel experts suggest that if you can’t make it to Calanque d’En-Vau, near Marseille, Barricane Beach is your next best bet.
Visit Devon praises this charming cove near Woolacombe as a top spot for rock pooling and a favourite among surfers. The comparison was made by holidaycottages.co.uk as part of their research into short-break options for those seeking a slice of Mediterranean, Caribbean, or South African beach life without leaving the UK, reports Devon Live.
They believe it’s the ideal way to “soak up the seaside atmosphere and unwind without having to even board a plane”.
They said: “Much like Calanque d’En-Vau, a famous and picturesque rocky inlet between Cassis and Marseille in the South of France, Barricane Beach in Devon is the perfect off-grid getaway.”

“Known for its dramatic rocky landscapes, clear waters, and remote access, it’s also a great spot for those who love hiking.
“It features a café that serves homemade Sri Lankan curry throughout summer making it a wonderful place for a refreshing sea dip, a delightful dinner, and a stunning sunset.”

Shannon Keary, Digital PR manager at holidaycottages.co.uk, has highlighted the UK’s own coastal gems, saying: “For many people, summer brings the temptation of a beach holiday, however, travel enthusiasts don’t have to travel internationally to experience crystal-clear waters and beautiful sandy beaches hidden between towering cliffs as there are many comparable spots in the UK.”
She also added a tip for travellers: “If you’re looking to spend a few days at these beautiful locations, don’t forget to take a look at our coastal cottages for the perfect stay.”

As the summer season looms and holiday bookings surge, North Macedonia is emerging as a hot favourite for those seeking an off-the-beaten-path escape. Nestled in Europe and bordered by Greece, Bulgaria, Serbia and Albania, North Macedonia may not be on every traveller’s radar, but its tranquillity makes it an ideal choice for a serene getaway.
The country boasts a rich tapestry of history, with influences from the Mediterranean, Balkans, Greece, Italy, and the Ottoman Empire, offering a unique cultural fusion. North Macedonia, one of Europe’s most distinctive nations, remains largely undiscovered. Despite its small size, it’s brimming with stunning natural landscapes.
Approximately 80 per cent of the country is adorned with mountains and lakes, making it a dream destination for thrill-seekers keen on hiking, cycling and kayaking.
For those who prefer to soak up nature at a leisurely pace, North Macedonia is home to a diverse array of wildlife, including bears, wild boars, wolves, foxes, deer, and over 200 species of butterfly.
History buffs can immerse themselves in the amphitheatres, statues, monasteries, and relics from the Greek, Roman, Byzantine, and Ottoman eras.

The country’s rich historical influences have also given rise to a mouth-watering culinary scene, reports the Express. The national dish, tavce gravce – a hearty baked bean dish – is a must-try.
Lake Ohrid and its environs can get crowded during the summer peak, so bear this in mind if you’re after a tranquil retreat. However, the rest of the country has an almost untouched feel to it.
Recent tourist data for 2021 showed that North Macedonia welcomed a total of 294,000 visitors, a stark contrast to neighbouring Greece which sees tens of millions annually.
North Macedonia shares many striking resemblances with both Greece and Turkey.
Yet, this emerging hotspot is a fantastic choice for those seeking an adventurous escape away from the usual tourist trails.
ROBLOX, the online playground for millions of budding game-makers and blocky adventurers, has stunned fans by swapping steely greys for a loud new look with vivid blue.
With over 70 million daily players, every pixel counts, and the site is incredibly popular with children, with one spending over £1,000.

Why is the Roblox logo blue?
Although Roblox hasn’t explained the reasons for the new colour scheme, they have previously used silver and red.
The vivid blue is seen by many people as a statement about the company’s new direction.
It could be seen as an attempt to fit in with other tech companies, while some users have suggested it shows a more corporate image.
The shift to a vivid blue could be part of Roblox‘s wider strategy to modernise the brand.
The change has been implemented across Roblox’s platforms, including the Creator Hub and the Universal App.
The new hue helps to create a more cohesive brand.
When did Roblox change the logo?
Nobody is quite sure exactly when the logo changed, however one blogger wrote in March that the logo was still grey and black.
However, the logo was spotted to have changed in the Apple app store and Google Play in April 2025.
This comes after players noticed the play button changed from green to blue in January.
What does the blue represent?
Blue is often associated with trust, safety, calmness and professionalism.

In contrast, the red that Roblox previously used can be associated with urgency and aggression.
Unlike traditional gaming publishers, where the platform publishes its own games, on Roblox, independent developers can create and share their own narratives.
The colourful site is popular with children, who play the mostly free games on their smartphones, tablets and computers.
Many users enjoy messaging their friends and strangers with the text chat feature.
A mattress expert has shared their top tips for passengers who are worried about getting a good night’s sleep on a cruise ship – and it’s all to do with the cabin you choose
There are crucial things to consider when booking a cruise cabin [stock image](Image: NANCY PAUWELS via Getty Images)
For those prone to motion sickness, the idea of a cruise holiday might seem daunting, especially when it comes to getting some shut-eye on the open waves. Rebecca Swain, a sleep and mattress expert from Winstons Beds, has come forward with her top advice for travellers concerned about their slumber at sea.
She remarked: “If you’re new to cruises, then there could be a possibility that you’ll struggle to sleep the first couple of nights.” She reassured potential cruisers that ships are engineered to ensure minimal movement is felt, but acknowledged that the mere notion of dozing off in the middle of the ocean can disrupt some people’s rest.
When booking a cruise, passengers often have the liberty to select their cabin, and according to Rebecca, there are crucial considerations to bear in mind.
One tip she offers is to steer clear of balcony rooms. Despite being one of the pricier options due to their private outdoor space, Rebecca suggests they may not be ideal for those apprehensive about the vastness of the sea, reports the Express.
She advised: “Balcony rooms are gorgeous but if the thought of sleeping on open water scares you, you’re best opting for an inside cabin so you can’t see the water late at night.”
Another pointer is to make your bed as comfortable as possible. Rebecca emphasised the importance of this, adding: “Make your bed as comfy as possible to ensure a good night’s rest.
It may sound obvious but it’s worth asking the staff on board for extra pillows, blankets and a mattress topper if needed.”
Cruise ship personnel are typically accommodating and may provide additional pillows or blankets to guests upon request.
Don’t hesitate to make a special request if it could enhance your stay in your cabin. Allow yourself some time to get accustomed to the sway.
Cruise liners are built to ensure guests feel only slight motion, yet occasionally the elements have other plans.
Rebecca advised: “Although the movement on large ships is minimal, it’s important to give yourself a night or two to get used to your new sleeping space.”
After a bit of time onboard, cruise travellers typically find they’ve acclimated to the ocean’s rhythm.
The plane, dubbed WindRunner, would be the largest aircraft ever built and would be able to carry 12 times more than a Boeing 747. The 356ft long aircraft would be capable of carrying 12 times the weight of a Boeing 747

The world’s biggest ever plane dubbed ‘Skytanic’ will take-off in five years or less.
Radia, an energy company, is embarking on an ambitious aeronautical venture to develop a gargantuan aircraft named WindRunner. This massive plane, stretching 108m in length, would dwarf a Boeing 747 by carrying twelve times its load, while being 38m longer.
Rocket scientist Mark Lundstrom plays a pivotal role in crafting the design of this grand aircraft intended for a unique purpose: transporting colossal wind turbine blades to far-flung locations. Such blades rank among the world’s lengthiest objects, potentially restricting the cargo jet to haul just one at a time.
Radia aims to overcome major logistical hurdles associated with moving these bulky offshore blades, currently a complex task due to their sheer size. This endeavour could pave the way for an increase in wind farms, which Radia, established in 2016, strongly supports. Some of these mammoth blades tip the scales at around 26,000kg.
The plane would be the biggest ever to fly(Image: John Keeble, Getty Images)
In the coming years, wind turbine blades are expected to grow from 70 metres to 100 metres long, to catch more wind while also rotating in a slower, less disruptive fashion. Already, some companies have had to build special roads to transport blades at their current length, as they’ve proven so difficult to transport through tunnels and under bridges.
Radia has seen an opportunity to overcome the logistical opportunities by taking turbine blades to the air. For the past decade it has been working on the WindRunner, a huge plane with a cargo volume a dozen times bigger than a Boeing 747.
The company plans to get the plane up in the air before the end of the decade, New York Times reports. When it does, it will be the biggest plane ever to fly – dwarfing the Ukranian jet Mriya, which was destroyed at the onset of the Russian invasion in 2022.
Addressing the transportation issues tied to wind turbine blades, Paul Hanna, Radia’s vice-president of marketing, detailed some painstaking logistics to a publication: “It takes a year and a half to plan a move of these things down a highway. You’ve got road bridges to get underneath, traffic signs that need to come down, homes that are near the off-ramp that may have to be moved.”
Lundstrom has stated that the “only viable solution” for transporting large wind turbine blades was to create an enormous aircraft, hence the birth of the WindRunner. Despite the mammoth dimensions of a 24m height and 79m long wingspan, the craft can only carry a single 105m blade or up to three 80m blades in one go.
With aspirations for Radia to kick-off aerial blade transport by 2030, Hanna expressed his ambitious goal to Aerospace: “We have the opportunity to take a dramatic and lasting amount of CO2 out of the atmosphere, and we’re giving the aerospace industry the opportunity to participate in reducing the cost of energy by as much as 30%.”
Addressing the World Economic Forum, Lundstrom highlighted the driving force behind their project: “The necessity to fight climate change is something that’s a big motivating factor.
“It’s very unique to be able to have an aerospace solution to climate change, as opposed to contributing to the problem. And so for an aerospace engineer or for an aerospace company to be able to contribute their skills to fighting climate change, instead of just optimizing passenger seat miles or making a defence product, this is a unique opportunity for the aerospace industry to both get exposure into the energy world, and also be able to take many percentage points of CO2 out of the world.”

But the Radfords are also not immune to social media criticism, following a range of drama over the years – and more recently.
Katie Radford, 22 – the eighth eldest of Britain’s largest family – gave birth to a healthy baby boy, Ronnie Hudson Carter, back in October 2024.
Despite the mum-to-be wanting Sue, then 49, to be present for the birth, a booking blunder from Noel meant parents of the brood ended up missing the arrival of Ronnie – much to Sue’s disappointment.
One critic said: ”Can’t believe you’ve gone away so close to Chloe’s due date after the drama when Noel booked you to go away close to Millie’s due date.”
But this is not the first time the bumper brood has come under fire, leaving Instagram fans and TV viewers furious.
From a ”distasteful” act tricking fans into thinking Sue’s battling ”dementia” to ”using kids”, here we take a look at some of the biggest scandals the Radfords have weathered throughout the years.

The matriarch also faced criticism over a ‘distasteful’ episode in January this yearCredit: 22 Kids and Counting, C5
The first part of the episode showed the now 50-year-old and her husband, Noel, 54, becoming more distant as the typically outgoing mum-of-22 became more withdrawn.
The pie whizz, naturally, was seen growing increasingly worried about his wife, whom he got married to in 1992.

After Noel accidentally stumbled across a leaflet for dementia in the family vehicle he feared the worst – but the latter part of the episode then revealed it wasn’t the matriarch whose life had been turned upside down.
Channel 5 viewers slammed the episode as ”distasteful” that ”set up” fans of the mega brood to believe Sue had a life-changing illness.
A second said: ”Distasteful ….wanting to make people think Sue had dementia. Scripts need looking into.”
”Wow the show is really setting this up as though Sue has dementia. She doesn’t. A family friend has early onset dementia,” a third lamented.
Another wrote: ”If it’s not all scripted then I think she’s out of order not just telling him she’s fine and it’s someone else. Poor guy must’ve been so worried! Have gone off her!”
How does family-of-22 the Radfords afford to live?
AS Britain’s biggest family, it may come as no surprise that Sue and Noel Radford must have some hefty bills.
Between them, they have a whopping 22 children and seven dogs, which often has some people wonder how they manage their money.
The Radfords support themselves with the proceeds of Noel’s bakery, The Radford Pie Company, which is located near their home.
On their website, it says: “We have owned our own lovely bakery since 1999 which is how we manage to provide for (and feed) our huge and expanding family as well as for the local people of Heysham and Morecambe.”
The family expanded their business to cater to online orders placed across the UK.
The business is a family affair, with Noel at the helm, and some of their children helping out.
The older kids, who are working at least part-time, don’t get a free ride as they’re made to pay a small amount of rent to their parents.
“Us older ones do pay a little bit of board. Granted it’s not a lot but I’m also trying to save up for my own house at the moment.” their daughter Chloe said in a video on the YouTube channel.
Sue added: “We’ve always said if you want to buy somewhere, renting is a bit of dead money, so we’d rather you saved that money up and stayed at home a bit longer.
“I also do believe they should pay board if they are earning. We’ve always been brought up by our parents that we had to pay board.”
Noel and Sue famously don’t rely on benefits for their bumper brood and live off their pie shop for income.
They also revealed they make money from brand partnerships on social media.
The Radford family stars in their own reality TV show 22 Kids and Counting – which has run for four series.
Brand expert Andy Barr believes Noel and Sue have been paid less than £10,000 for each show.
He told the Daily Mail: “The typical fee per episode is going to be in the thousands rather than the tens or hundreds of thousands that people often think is the case with TV shows of this nature.
“If they continue to get commissioned for a fourth or fifth season, then they are going to be able to command a higher fee.”
He estimates that the Radfords make £ 5,000 an episode.
Teen pregnancy

Sue, who turned 50 this year, was three years below the age of the consent at the timeCredit: Neil Jones – The Sun
In their joint tell-all book The Radfords: Making Life Count, published in February 2024, Noel addressed the controversy over his and Sue’s respective ages at the time of their first pregnancy.
Sue, who turned 50 this year, was three years below the age of the consent at the time, but Noel has revealed there was “no knock on the door” from authorities regarding her pregnancy.
Back in 1989, and as the law is today, it is an offence for anyone to have any sexual activity with a person under the age of 16.
However, the Crown Prosecution Service doesn’t always pursue prosecutions against teenagers in these circumstances.
It is still illegal for a person aged 18 or over to have any sexual activity with a person younger than 16.
Hitting back at the criticism the loved-up pair faced, Noel defended their decision to start a family at such a young age.
“We were both kids,” he penned. “It was not as if I was 10 or 15 years older than Sue.
“For a lot of people, though, things are just black and white and you are tarnished with the same brush as other people in totally different situations.

As Britain’s biggest brood, it may come as no surprise that Sue and Noel have some hefty bills and expenses to cover – especially if they want to enjoy lavish trips (a whopping 18 in 2024 alone) as often as they do.
The bumper brood famously don’t rely on benefits, with a big chunk of their earnings coming from dad Noel’s pie business, as well as brand partnerships on social media.
They do receive child benefits, but no other government help.
The pair regularly share vlogs documenting their family life at home, and took to YouTube to post a video of their trip to IKEA.
After the clips from their shopping haul, Noel and Sue sat down with five-year-old daughter Bonnie on the sofa to demonstrate the tutoring app they’ve been using for their kids.
At the bottom of the video, a line also flashed up saying: “Use the link in our description box for 30-day money back guarantee and afterwards 60% off.”
Sadly for the two, the decision to include the tot in the video plug of the app didn’t go down too well with everyone.
“Selling products using the kids,” one person raged in a remark that’s since been deleted from the comments section.

In April 2023, Sue and Noel’s daughter Millie, now 23, sparked rumours of a fiery feud after she appeared to slam her parents on social media.
The 23-year-old, who was pregnant with her youngest child, Elodie, at the time, accused her parents of excluding Ophelia and Chester from a family trip to the sunny Florida.
Sharing a screenshot from a clip of her parents surprising some of their grandchildren, Millie reposted it with caption that read: “Cute? But you’ve made money from all your grandchildren, but choose your favourites.”
It wasn’t long until she deleted the furious post, while Sue later pleaded with fans not to speculate over the alleged fallout.
In a message shared under their Facebook video, the mum-of-22 wrote: “Thank you so much for all your comments. The grandkids’ reaction was just so lovely and had us all crying [heart emoji].
”Please could we just not comment on Millie? We are on holiday and don’t want all the drama,” she begged.
On the brink of a bankruptcy

Sue and Noel may have been together for years, appearing to have a strong marriage on the surface – but that doesn’t mean the two haven’t had their fair share of trials and tribulations.
Back in 2000, there was one particularly frustrating period that almost broke their seemingly strong bond, after Foot and Mouth Disease hit their bakery business hard.
In their 2024 interview with OK!, Sue recalled: “We almost went bankrupt and thought we would lose the house. I just kept thinking, ‘There’s no way out of this, and I really don’t see how our marriage can survive.”
However, the pair eventually managed to work through the dark days, and onto more prosperous times.
Sue added: “The whole thing took its toll on me and Noel. Looking back now, I can see that we would never, ever have called it a day, but when you’re in that highly pressurised moment, it’s hard to see a way out.”

The festive season can be an exceptionally stressful period for any family – and the Radford bumper brood are no exception, having to whip up a mammoth feast.
But Christmas 2023 proved to be a particularly challenging time, with two of the siblings – Chloe, 29, and Luke, 24 – being at war with each other.
As revealed in a festive episode, the two hadn’t been on speaking terms for over a year, with a squabble over a shelf of frozen pastry pies tipping things over the edge.
Luke explained to viewers that, although the longstanding feud had been about a “mix of things”, working together had caused matters to escalate even further.
Luke shared: “Anyways, they [the pies] just took up so much space, and Chloe had set it up that way, and it was early in the morning.
”I’m not a morning person… and it just kicked off. It’s the most pathetic thing, but it’s the straw that broke the camel’s back.”
Offering her perspective on the situation, Chloe reflected: “Sibling arguments are different. You definitely hold a grudge more.”
Desperate to see the once-close duo put their differences aside, the parents took a drastic step and invited a trained intervention counsellor into their 10-bedroom family home, in hopes that the row would be put to bed.
Mum Sue confessed: “To see them not speaking has been really, really hard. Especially as when we look back over the years and see how close Luke and Chloe were.
”But they are both very strong-willed and stubborn.”
Noel chimed in: “The longer it goes on, the harder it gets. There has been no backing down first. It’s not nice to see them not talking to each other.”
“Not sure if helpful to anyone but these pools are reduced in Argos,” she wrote, alongside a snap of the pools on the Argos website.

“Kind of underestimated the size of it in my tiny garden haha but kids will love it.”
Her screenshot showed the Bestway Rectangular 7ft paddling pool was half price at £10 instead of £20, while the 9ft version had been slashed from £35 to £17.50.
And people were quick to comment on Amy’s post, with many revealing they have also snapped up the pools.
“I cannot wait!” one wrote.
“Ordered my little girl the £17.50 one and probs more excited than she will be haha!”
“It’s great, literally so big!” Amy replied.

“My kids were so excited I had to let them go in it tonight before bed!”
“Honestly that’s what it’s all about – memories for them that they won’t forget,” the poster responded.
“I got one today – absolute bargain,” another commented.
“Got the 7 foot one today,” a third said.
“It’s the perfect size for my four year old.”
“After seeing a post about these earlier I’ve ordered the 7ft one for my little boy!” someone else said.
How to keep your kids safe in warm weather
Hot weather is fabulous, a wonderful trip to the beach or enjoying time in the garden! However, when temperatures skyrocket it can become dangerous. Save The Children have compiled 10 heat safety tips for keeping children safe in a heatwave.
1. Light clothing, heavy suncream Choose lightweight, light-coloured, and breathable fabrics (such as cotton), and use lots of suncream to protect you and your child from the heat and potential sunburn.
2. Drink lots of fluids Remember to drink plenty of liquids, regardless of your activity level. Check your baby’s nappy for concentrated (dark in color) urine, which can indicate dehydration.
3. Get lots of rest Try and limit activities. Make sure that children get lots of rest when they are active. NHS advises to “try to keep out of the sun between 11am to 3pm”.
4. Keep children entertained Children may become anxious or restless from being kept indoors. Plan for indoor activities and games.
5. Reassure children Children may be stressed by the heat. Remember that children take their cues from their parents and caregivers, so try to keep calm and answer their questions openly and honestly. Also stick to regular bath and sleep times for your child.
6. House safety/cooling tips During the day, keep rooms cool by closing blinds/curtains, especially in rooms facing the sun. Using a fan to circulate air in the room is beneficial.Review your child’s school sun policy.
7. Never leave children unsupervised in parked cars
Even in less threatening temperatures, vehicles can rapidly heat up to dangerous temperatures. A child left inside a car is at risk of severe heat-related illness or death, even if the windows are cracked open.
8. Stay informed
Listen to local news and weather channels for health, safety and weather-related updates.
9. Know how to identify heat-related illnesses
Look for signs of heat-related illnesses/conditions such as heat stroke, exhaustion, cramps, and severe sunburn. If children show these symptoms, seek medical assistance. Refer to the NHS website for a complete list, and how to remedy them.
10.Read the NHS guidance for babies
The NHS advises giving your baby a cool bath before bedtime and keeping nightwear to a minimum. Your baby will sleep most comfortably at room temperature between 16C and 20C, a nursery thermometer will help you monitor the temperature of the baby’s room.
“I’ve just got one today, I’m waiting on it to be delivered,” another added.
“I collected mine in store which was ideal as it was ready straight away,” Amy pointed out.
She also revealed that she’d picked up the electric pump which plugs into the car, adding it was “amazing”.
“Literally pumped it up within seconds!” she said.
A TikTok video is making the rounds on social media, showcasing the abandoned and dilapidated streets and buildings of a once popular holiday resort destination in Cyprus
Homes and businesses were left abandoned after the Turkish invasion, but Famagusta is working to rebuild itself(Image: Anadolu via Getty Images)
A recent TikTok video has documented the almost post-apocalyptic atmosphere of a once thriving city in Cyprus. Showing empty streets lined with rubble, rusted signs and shattered windows, it is hard to imagine that this was formerly the holiday hotspot of Hollywood stars.
The TikTok video was uploaded by @donny_knight and offers a rare glimpse into the remains of Varosha, in the abandoned quarter of Famagusta in Cyprus. The three-and-a-half minute video showcases decaying buildings, deserted streets and overgrown vegetation.
The video begins by showing the remains of what appears to be an old Singer sewing machine store. Then moves on to show an abandoned and dilapidated Barclays bank building, with only the entry sign still intact.
Varosha was once a buzzing beach destination, but everything changed in 1974(Image: Getty Images/iStockphoto)
As the person recording the video moves through the empty street, they show an abandoned Toyota showroom bereft of cars. The text over the video reads: “Where did the cars go from this showroom in Famagusta?”
To answer this question, it’s vital to look back at the city’s history. Varosha was once the crown jewel of Cyprus’ tourist industry, attracting the likes of Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton with its pristine beaches and luxurious resort hotels.
But On July 20, 1974, the Turkish army invaded the northern region of Cyprus – triggered by a coup attempt supported by the Greek junta. Varosha changed forever as its 15,000 residents were forced to flee and abandon their homes, cars, businesses and personal possessions.

The Turkish military subsequently fenced off the area, leaving the former resort town to become a ghost town. Even today, the neighbourhood remains untouched under the control of Northern Cyprus. The TikTok video displays this dark reality, featuring only two people on the street for the entire length of the video.
Varosha was not the only part of Cyprus that was impacted by the invasion. The opening thumbnail of the video also shows abandoned cars from the UN buffer zone of Nicosia which is almost an hour and a half drive away.
Needless to say, tourism to Varosha and Famagusta in general came to a complete standstill after the invasion. It was not until October 2020 that the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and the then prime minister of Northern Cyprus, Ersin Tatar decided to reopen the area to visitors.
When the city finally reopened its doors, tourists were keenly interested in the city’s tragic history(Image: Getty Images)
But instead of attracting the glamorous sunbathers and Hollywood royalty of its heyday, Varosha became a hub for ‘dark’ tourists. Dark tourism has been a growing travel market in recent years, where travellers seek out destinations for their morbid and sometimes tragic histories.
When Varosha reopened its gates, it became a hotspot for dark tourists hoping to explore the ghost town for themselves. According to statistics released in 2024, more than 1.8 million tourists visited the area in the last four years.
The town is still working to repair its global image, initiating clean-up projects and introducing new visitor facilities and amenities near the beach. Hope to revitalise the town were also discussed during a recent meeting of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.
A man has shared how much it costs to buy a meal at McDonald’s in a popular airport and people are gobsmacked at the price. People can’t get over how much it is

A bloke has left Brits utterly flabbergasted after revealing the eye-watering cost of a McDonald’s meal at a well-known airport. Craig took to TikTok to show his followers the hefty price tag of grabbing a bite at Antalya Airport in Turkey, and viewers are absolutely staggered.
In his revealing video, he explained that while at Antalya Airport, he was looking at what was on offer at the eatery. But, as he perused the menu, the prices struck him as “mad”, prompting him to share the cost of some fan-favourite meals at this location.
The footage shows a Big Mac Meal ringing in at a whopping €20,90 – that’s about £16. And, if you’re hankering for a Big Tasty Classic Meal, be prepared to fork out even more, with a price tag of €21,90.
Even a Double Cheeseburger Meal isn’t spared, costing an eye-popping €20,50. Since Craig posted the video, it’s been viewed thousands of times, leaving customers gobsmacked by the exorbitant prices.
The clip has racked up thousands of views, sparking a frenzy of comments from shocked fast-food lovers.

One person questioned: “Antalya and Istanbul Airports are the most expensive airports in the world. Tell me the reason why?” Another shared their recent experience: “Literally just got home from Turkey a couple of hours ago, refused to pay at the airport, so now have a McDonald’s en route to the house.”
A third chimed in with disbelief, writing: “Why do people pay those ridiculous prices?” And, yet another commenter echoed the sentiment, saying: “Antalya prices are a massive rip-off.”
Some commentators noted that prices in Turkey have been on the rise for some time, while others argued that not all areas of Turkey are pricey to visit. Additionally, a few people expressed puzzlement over why tourists opt to pay the steep prices.
Why has Turkey become so expensive?
According to Statista, there are several factors at play. The website states: “Domestic producer price indices have been continuously rising, which has directly resulted in a price increase in all consumer goods and services. Accordingly, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) in all commodity groups increased extremely since 2022.
“In the same year, the food and non-alcoholic beverages category had one of the highest inflation rates in the CPI. This particularly affected Turkish consumers, as these products accounted for the highest share of household expenditure in 2023.
“Since 2020, food prices have increased significantly around the world, and Turkey is no exception. Although inflation has started to slow down recently, food prices in Turkey continue to go up steadily, increasing by 48.6 percent in November 2024 compared to the same month in the previous year.
“It is not surprising that food inflation has not simmered down, as the producer price index (PPI) of agricultural products followed a constant increasing trend in the country over the past few years.”
However, it’s reported that Turkey is making strides to bolster tourism, including tackling rising costs, diversifying tourist attractions and pumping money into infrastructure. The Government is reportedly striving to curb inflation, with some individuals also pushing niche tourism sectors like spas and health care.
McDonald’s has been approached for a comment regarding the cost of meals at Antalya Airport.
There’s a £12 upfront fee for postage and packaging, but the monthly broadband cost is fixed for a year and crucially, customers on the social tariff won’t be hit with mid-contract price rises, which many standard tariffs face every spring.
BT also offers a faster option at 67Mbps for £20 a month, which is due to rise to £21 from Friday.
Both tariffs are part of BT’s commitment to support low-income households with affordable connectivity.
Who can get it?
To be eligible for BT’s Home Essentials plan, you need to be receiving one of the following:
Universal Credit
Pension Credit (Guarantee Credit)
Jobseeker’s Allowance (income-based)
Income Support
Employment and Support Allowance (income-based)
You don’t need to be an existing BT customer to apply, and you can switch even if you’re still in a contract with another provider without facing early exit fees.
Martin Lewis and his team at MoneySavingExpert have warned people to act quickly.
In its latest newsletter, it said: “Check now, thousands are missing out, and this deal gets more expensive after Thursday. Apply NOW to lock in the cheaper price for a year.”
One reader who switched said she saved over £900 a year by moving her mum onto the £15 BT plan.
Why it matters
The cost of broadband has soared in recent years and inflation-linked mid-contract price hikes mean that millions of households face bills increasing by up to 8.8% this spring alone.
Yet despite rising costs, take-up of broadband social tariffs remains shockingly low.
According to Ofcom, over four million households in the UK are eligible for a cheaper broadband deal, but only 220,000 (around 5%) are actually signed up.
That means millions could be missing out on vital savings.
Other cheap deals available
BT isn’t the only provider offering social tariffs and depending on where you live and how fast your internet needs to be, you may find a better option elsewhere.
Here are some of the best social tariffs available:
Virgin Media Essentials: £12.50/month for 15Mbps or £20/month for 54Mbps. No setup cost and a rolling 30-day contract.
Sky Broadband Basics: £20/month for 36Mbps. 18-month contract, no setup fee.
Vodafone Essentials: £12/month for 38Mbps or £20/month for 73Mbps. 12-month contract.
Hyperoptic Fair Fibre: £15/month for 50Mbps or £20/month for 150Mbps. Rolling contract, available in select urban areas.
NOW Broadband Basics: £20/month for 36Mbps. Includes line rental and has no setup cost.
TalkTalk: Offers its Future Fibre social tariff in partnership with the DWP. It’s available to benefit claimants and provides full-fibre speeds at a lower cost.
TalkTalk’s low-cost broadband isn’t always listed alongside the others, but it may be an option for those already receiving benefits especially if you’re in an area with full-fibre availability.
Each of these providers has its own eligibility rules, so check directly with them.
How to apply for BT Home Essentials
To sign up for BT’s discounted broadband, head to the BT Home Essentials page and follow the steps to apply. You’ll need to prove your benefit status using your National Insurance number — BT checks this automatically with the DWP.
Once accepted, you can either switch to BT or downgrade your current BT plan without penalty.
If you’re on a low income or claiming benefits, switching to a social tariff could save you hundreds of pounds a year.
But time is running out, BT’s current £15 a month price expires at 11.59pm on Thursday.
How do I choose the best broadband deal for me?
The first thing you need to know is what speed you want to go for.
If multiple people within your household use the internet to stream TV shows and films or upload photos to Facebook or Instagram, you won’t need much more than 5-10 Mbps to avoid buffering.
If you’ve got a larger family, all of whom are streaming, online gaming, and/or uploading videos to TikTok, you’re going to want something in the range of 20-40 Mbps.
You’ll want to consider faster broadband options if you’re regularly downloading whole films or games to your devices, or you need to upload substantial digital files to the web.
Once you know what broadband speeds you need and how much you’re willing to spend, the next step is to select the best extras.
Most UK broadband providers feature TV deals, but the channels they offer are different.
For instance, Sky offers the most channels, but its broadband speeds are slower than Virgin’s or BT’s.
In addition to this, when picking the right broadband deal for you, you should also consider mobile and streaming offers.

A holiday spot with a top beach, balmy climes, and budget-friendly brews is the dream for many – and this stunning island in the Philippines ticks all the boxes. Panay Island, basking in average temperatures of up to 34C in May, boasts one of the globe’s most exquisite beaches.
TripAdvisor’s Travellers Choice Awards have crowned the island’s White Beach as one of the Best of the Best, lavishing it with a stellar 4.4 out of five stars on the travel review site. Discussing White Beach, the travel firm said: “Boracay’s most popular beach draws a crowd for good reasons: soft white sand, turquoise waters, and amazing sunsets.
“It’s a great place to swim and snorkel, and when you’ve worked up an appetite, lots of local dining and drinking joints are just steps away.”
And when it comes to enjoying a tipple at one of the local haunts, your wallet won’t feel the pinch – a pint will only set you back 94p, and a three-course meal for two in the Philippines averages at a mere £16.
Visitors to White Beach concur that the sandy expanse is worthy of its lauded status. A tourist commented: “Still the island paradise and no wonder that it is one of the best beaches in the world.”, reports the Express.
“The crystal clear water and pure powdery white sand stretching to approximately 3 km makes it an ideal to explore the island from end to end. It has a variety of restaurants, local shops and food spots to just stay, lie down and rejuvenate. Lots of activities from sun up to sun down.”

One visitor who dropped by earlier in the year said: “Amazing and beautiful beach, lovely soft sand, warm sea, even in January. Nice local shops. I have been to many beaches all over the world and this is one of the best.
“Definitely worth a visit to this one. Great for swimming getting some sun or just chilling out.”
Aside from the stunning beach, the island boasts cultural and historical treasures like the Jaro Cathedral, a Romanesque Revival monument that dates back to 1587.
From Panay, island hopping to nearby destinations such as Maraison Island, Guimaras, and Lakawon Island is a breeze. For those enamoured with history, the island also houses Aklan, touted as the oldest province in the Philippines.
With a host of locals offering guide services, Aklan presents an unparalleled opportunity for visitors to immerse themselves in the island’s rich heritage while enjoying its natural splendour.
Afghanistan is one of the most dangerous countries in the world, with the lowest score on the Global Peace Index from 2018 to 2024 despite falling levels of violence

Despite being one of the most dangerous places on Earth, an Asian country is seeing a surge in tourist numbers. Afghanistan, often dubbed the world’s most perilous nation, has consistently scored lowest on the Global Peace Index from 2018 to 2024 amid decreasing violence.
It was flagged as “extreme” risk on the 2024 danger map due to intense political strife and widespread disorder, alongside rife violent and petty crimes. Nevertheless, visitors keep flocking, with statistics reporting a jump from 691 tourists in 2021 to 2,300 in 2022, and a remarkable rise to 7,000 by 2023.
Euronews suggests that this unlikely travel hotspot owes its boom to better air links via Dubai and the allure of holidaying somewhere extraordinary.
Tourist visas for Afghanistan remain pricey and challenging to secure, with international relations frayed after the Taliban’s resurgence – no nation recognises their claim to power.
The capital Kabul has the most international flights, but no Afghan airport has direct routes with major tourist markets like China, Europe or India with airlines largely avoiding Afghan airspace.
There are also problems with the road network, which is half-paved or non-existent in some parts of the country. Furthermore, the local road infrastructure remains underdeveloped, fully paved routes are sparse, and some areas entirely lack roads, reports the Express.

Mohammad Saeed, the head of Kabul’s Tourism Directorate, has grand plans for Afghanistan to become a tourism hotspot, with support from the Taliban’s top brass.
In a bid to boost tourism, Afghanistan is nurturing future talent through a Taliban-run institute that trains men in tourism and hospitality, aiming to draw more visitors.
The institute’s 30 male students, who range in age and background but share a lack of industry knowledge, are learning the ropes of attracting tourists.
Business school grad Samir Ahmadzai, one of the eager learners, shared his vision: “People hear that Afghanistan is backwards, poverty and all about war. We have 5,000 years of history. There should be a new page of Afghanistan.”
The curriculum covers Afghan crafts and anthropology, but there’s also an informal focus on managing interactions with foreign women, whose habits might conflict with local norms and Taliban rules.
Taliban regulations have tightened around women’s dress and travel, requiring them to have a male chaperone.
For Afghan women, life has grown more restrictive, with limited public socialising options and closures of gyms and beauty salons.

The volunteer-run Christmas light committee says its hasn’t got the money for a cherry picker to get them down.
Ex-chairman Lisa Renfree said: “The committee runs on a very tight budget and tries to keep the costs down so it can use the money on the actual decorations.
“If they don’t have to pay out for a cherry picker, which is expensive to hire, they can spend more money on lights for the residents to enjoy.”
Decorations are traditionally removed on Twelfth Night, early in January, and it is considered bad luck to leave them up longer.
Deputy chair of the committee Jade Aubin said they hope to remove the lights this weekend.
Elsewhere families flocked to beaches, parks and riversides.

Today’s temperature could top the 27.4C May 1 record set in Lossiemouth, in Moray, Scotland in 1990.
Met Office Chief Meteorologist Jason Kelly said: “It will be the warmest day of the week. Overnight temperatures will also be very high in places. It’s possible national and station records for daytime and overnight temperatures may be broken.
“The far North will always see cooler conditions, with these more seasonal temperatures likely spreading erratically south later in the week.”
Temperatures will gradually start to fall over the Bank Holiday weekend to around average on Monday.

A MOTHER has revealed that she chose the same name as Chloe Radford’s newborn son for her baby, but was met with a barrage of nasty opinions.
The mum-of-one, who was pregnant with her second child at the time of sharing her story, confessed that friends laughed in her face when she revealed the moniker.

She named him BodhiCredit: tiktok.com/@itschloexa
Not only this, but people claimed the unique name is only for “surfer hippies”.
The 29-year-old, who is already mum to adorable Mila, two, with her security guard boyfriend Jacob Wallace, posted a heartwarming video documenting her journey to the hospital, as well as snippets of her in labour and a sweet first glimpse of her newborn son.
The proud mum also revealed her baby’s name and birth date, announcing that her second child – Sue and Noel Radford’s 14th grandchild – Bodhi Reign, was born on 28 April 2025.
We think Chloe’s choice of name is gorgeous, but one woman claimed that she also had intentions to name her son Bodhi, but was met with a horrifying response.
Posting on social media, the mother explained that she, her husband and her three-year-old son “really liked” the name.
While she was 30 weeks pregnant, with “time slipping away”, the mother shared her name dilemma on the r/namenerds thread on Reddit, where she posts under the username @Holly_Hawk.
The anonymous woman titled her post “How do you feel about the name Bodhi?” and explained: “I like the sound of this name a lot. I love the Sanskrit meaning behind Bodhi.”
Despite this, she reflected: “I do not like the hippie/stoner/surfer vibes.
“We made the mistake of mentioning we liked this name to some close friends of ours and they laughed and said it was cute… for a baby.
Most popular baby names of 2024
“My husband says not to worry about what everyone else thinks, but in this particular case, I think it’s important to heavily consider how it will be judged by friends, family, and the general public.
CHLOE Morgan, a Senior Writer at Fabulous, has revealed her dilemma on choosing a baby name…
At 35 weeks pregnant, by far the trickiest part of pregnancy for me in the past few months (minus the insomnia and countless night-time wee breaks!) has been trying to decide on a baby name.
The dilemmas are endless…
My partner and I went for a private scan to find out the gender as early as we could – partly due to the fact we thought it would make baby naming so much easier because we’d only have to come up with a list of names for one gender rather than two.
How wrong we were…
I was absolutely thrilled to be told I was expecting the baby girl I’d already dreamed of, but being one of the last of my friends to fall pregnant, I’ve had countless conversations over the years with excited pals discussing their top baby names…something which I wish I could go back in time and un-hear.
With each friend mentioning at least 10 possible monikers, I can’t help but feel like several are now a no-go even though I know it’s something that none of them would mind in the slightest – it’s a total me problem!
The debate comes up time and time again on social media forums – can you choose the same name that was a “potential” for a friend’s baby?
It’s a very divisive topic and opinions are always mixed…and I don’t want to be THAT person.
While some will argue there’s thousands of other names out there to choose from, others will say you need to choose YOUR favourite…after all, there’s no guarantee that person will even have another baby.
Then there’s also the issue of finding a name you adore…only to research it online and read one negative comment amongst hundreds of positives that you just can’t shake off.
I made that very mistake when I fell in love with a certain name (I won’t reveal it because I don’t want to ruin it for others!) …only to see someone point out that it constantly gets autocorrected on a phone to something rather rude instead.
So, back to the drawing board we went..
Just five weeks to go and it looks like our little one is going to be known as ‘baby gal’ for a little while longer!
She also added: “Also considering the alternate spelling of ‘Bode’.”
Big divide
Viewers eagerly raced to the comments to share their thoughts on the unique moniker, with users left totally divided.
One user penned: “I like the name Bodhi, both how it sounds and its meaning! I think your husband is right, you shouldn’t really listen to what others say if you guys really love it. It’s a legitimate name that I think can grow well.”
I don’t really like it and it’s definitely super hippie
Reddit user
A second chimed in: “I love Bodhi. It’s on my list as well. If your husband and you love it, f**k everyone else.”
Whilst someone else beamed: “I love it! Your son can choose a nickname (such as Bo) when he gets old enough to decide what suits him.”
Despite this, at the same time, one person slammed : “It sounds very hippie/surfer/stoner, sorry, I think most people will think this.”
Are Unique Baby Names Worth The Hassle?
YOU may think having a unique name helps you to stand out, but is it all it’s cracked up to be?
Fabulous’ Deputy Editor Josie Griffiths reveals the turmoil she faced with her own name while growing up.
When I was a child, all I wanted was one of those personalised keyrings with my name on it.
But no joy, the closest I could find was Rosie, Joseph (not great for a little girl) and Joanne.
Josie is short for Josephine, which is a French name, and I managed to reach my 20s without ever meeting anyone who shared it.
When I try to introduce myself to people, I get all sorts of random things – like Tracey and Stacey – which can be pretty annoying.
Although I have come into contact with a couple of Josies over the last year – there seems to be a few of us around my age – it’s still a much rarer name than most of my friends have.
On the whole I don’t mind it, at least it’s not rude or crazily spelt.
And it means I can get away with ‘doing a Cheryl’ and just referring to myself as Josie.
I’m getting married this year and some friends are shocked that I’m changing my surname, as it’s not seen as very cool or feminist to do so these days, but I explain to them that I’m not that attached to Griffiths as I’d always just say ‘hi it’s Josie’ when ringing a mate up.
I think it’s nice to be unique and I’ll definitely try and replicate this when naming my own kids.
It’s the rude names you’ve got to watch out for, so after nine years as a lifestyle journalist I’ll definitely be avoiding those.
Another added: “I don’t really like it and it’s definitely super hippie.”
Meanwhile, a third commented: “Bodhi is one of those names that no matter what I will always read and pronounce wrong.”
I really do still like the name but would feel selfish naming a child something that has such a strong stereotypical image that he will have the responsibility of carrying for the rest of his life
Reddit poster
Following the large divide, the anonymous mother shared an update and explained: “Thank you all for the honest feedback. It was as I expected and I think we are going to choose another name.
“I really do still like the name but would feel selfish naming a child something that has such a strong stereotypical image that he will have the responsibility of carrying for the rest of his life.
“Now it’s down to Julian or Owen.”
