Enninful was said to be ‘furious’ after the Duchess backed out of an issue in 2022Credit: Sussexroyal/Instagram
It comes after reports claimed Meghan dropped her former best pal Edward Enninful after a row over the cover of Vogue.
The Duchess of Sussex, 43, and the former magazine editor were once thick as thieves who bonded over mint tea and “philosophising”.
The ex-Suits actress said the duo were “like-minded thinkers” after she helped edit an edition in 2019.
But insiders told the Mail on Sunday that the pair cut contact over Enninful’s plans to cover Meghan and Harry’s charity work in a feature.
Royal expert Hugo Vickers told The Sun: “None of this surprises me at all, because we see it the whole time when things don’t go her way. She just overreacts.
“Clearly in this case with Edward Enninful, she has made something of an enemy, because he then dropped her from something she would have liked to be a part of, and it seems to happen the whole time.
“She’s very demanding. She’s difficult to work with. She has her ideas of what she wants to do, and she doesn’t seem to want to listen to anybody else, and that’s when you get into a trouble.”
Mr Vickers also highlighted how many people are now removed from Meghan’s life, from ex-husbands to close pals.
Her shocking claims surrounding the Royal Family since quitting the UK in 2020, from her Oprah interview to Netflix documentary, have also seen her alienated from her in-laws.
Meghan’s got it all WRONG – She’s shown us the real her but we HATE it
And countless staff members have joined a long list of people who no longer wish to associate with the mum-of-two.
“There is a theme which runs through all this is that she’s always rejecting people, or indeed, falls out with,” said Mr Vickers.
“Her father for one, who was very good to her when she was growing up, her first husband just gets dumped, her Canadian chef lover in Canada, dumped as well.
“Jessica Mulroney, her great friend in Canada, dumped, the entire British Royal family, and apart from her mother, all her own family.”
He dubbed the reported fall out with Enninful a “normal theme” and added “everything she does seems to go wrong”.
Mr Vickers continued: “She should listen to somebody like Edward Enninful, he’s a very highly qualified editor, and he knows what he’s doing, running a very important magazine.

“I would have thought it would have been well in her interest to keep in with him, instead of upsetting him.
“She doesn’t know better. Unfortunately, as has been proved time and time again.”
He added: “She is just so incredibly difficult, and that is the theme, and that is the narrative now, and I suspect that that will go on and probably get worse.”
Mr Vickers suggested part of the trouble stems from the fact everything “is always focused on her”.
He spotlighted the Duchess’ Mother’s Day post in which she praised herself and failed to mention her own mum.
“I really feel sorry for those children, and I wonder what sort of what they’re going to think when they grow up and realise how they’re being used in these things as well,” he added.
This comes after Meghan reportedly cut her plans to work with Enninful on a feature in 2022.
The former editor allegedly wanted to showcase the Duchess’ keynote speech at the One Young World Summit in Manchester in 2022.
However, he didn’t want to give them a front cover.
Conde Nast insiders claimed Meghan axed their arrangement.
A Conde Nast insider claimed: “The duchess and her team had high expectations and were expecting she might get a print cover or at least a digital cover out of it, but Enninful was not able to meet those expectations.
“He already had a magazine cover in the bag for that month.”
“The whole process became very difficult. Edward could only promise her a big showy feature inside the magazine and online – but she turned it down.”
After being told they wouldn’t make the cover, sources claim Meghan asked to be on the special digital cover which would be available with the print edition.
Her request was refused, by Enninful, because he didn’t think it would be “appropriate”.
The Duchess was so offended she walked away from the offer completely, leaving the former editor “furious”.
It is understood this was his breaking point and their friendship was fractured beyond repair.
Insiders also claim it hasn’t gone unnoticed in the Sussex household how much more involvement Enninful has with the Royal Family.
Enninful is now a trustee for The King’s Fund, King Charles‘s charity.
And, he hosted a glitzy New York event for The King’s Trust earlier this month – and Meghan was definitely not on the list sources claim.
Enniful was in “constant contact” with Meghan using WhatsApp as he watched the duchess’s chat with Oprah, the Daily Mail reported.
A source close told the paper: “There were around 15 people on the Zoom, all top Conde Nast people.
“They felt it was important from an editorial perspective that they got together to watch it.”
However, royal biographer Tom Bower previously claimed in his book Revenge: Meghan, Harry, and the War between the Windsors, that Meghan and Enninful feuded during the creation of Vogue’s September 2019 issue.
Staff were described as being left in “silent exasperation” at Meghan and her demands.
It claimed the duchess proposed poor ideas, and accused her of being difficult to approach with opposing suggestions.
Bower also wrote that Enninful and Meghan had a difference of opinion on how to market the edition – as the former actress wished to leak snippets online before its release, while the editor thought secrecy was best.
Meghan even asked if the magazine could hit the shelves in the US before the UK, according to the book, which ruffled feathers with head of communications, Sara Latham.
A Which? travel expert has explained why you should always have your phone nearby when you’re booking a holiday
The travel expert shared advice for people booking holidays (stock photo)(Image: Getty)
Most people have a checklist of items they’ll gather before booking a holiday, such as a calendar, a credit card, and a laptop. However, holidaymakers should also make sure they have a phone to hand when searching for deals.
A travel expert has revealed people should never book a holiday without a phone nearby or risk paying more than they need to. The tip was shared on TikTok by a Which? travel expert in a video on the consumer champion’s TikTok page.
In the Which? video, the expert said: “I would never book a hotel on a computer without checking the price on my mobile phone first.” She explained: “We slashed £270 off the price of an apartment in Amsterdam on Booking.com, and we saved almost £100 on a weekend in Florence with Expedia, just by booking a mobile exclusive.”
As such, it could pay off to check for deals using a phone before hitting checkout on a laptop. It wasn’t the only tip the expert shared to benefit holidaymakers. She also said she would never book a flight with an online travel agent without checking the cost with the airline first.
“Although online travel agents appear to be cheaper, they tend to whack up the prices of extras, such as bags and seats,” she reasoned. “If you need those, it might be cheaper just to go with the airline directly.”
Content cannot be displayed without consent
Additionally, when making your booking, the expert said not to pay to sit with travel companions when flying with Jet2 or BA. She told viewers: “Jet2 and BA told us that they’ll always try to seat groups together where possible, but Wizz Air and Ryanair are more likely to split you up unless you pay to sit together.”
According to the pro, booking car hire excess insurance with the hire company is another common mistake. Instead, she recommended booking with a third party before you go, which should work out cheaper.
Similarly, she advises against changing money at the airport as the exchange rates are “notoriously terrible.” As such, it pays off to be prepared and change money before departure.
The expert explained how to avoid the common holiday mistake (stock photo)(Image: Getty)
When changing money, Which? recommends shopping around. Advice on the Which? website says: “Not all bureaux de change will use the same money exchange rates or charging structures. Some impose a fee when you buy foreign currency, while others don’t – so you must consider the total cost of changing your cash before handing it over.
“This is simpler than it sounds; just ask exactly how much foreign currency you will get from each outlet in return for the pounds sterling you are seeking to exchange.
“It’s worth comparing the deals on offer from several companies before changing your money, and you may also want to steer clear of high street banks. Which? research shows banks typically fail to offer the best exchange rates and may only offer currency exchange services to existing customers.”
Getting lost on holiday can be a nightmare, but one travel expert has shared his top tip so that is doesn’t happen to you
This method will make getting lost impossible(Image: Alberto Menendez Cervero via Getty Images)
Ever found yourself hopelessly lost while on holiday? It can be a real dampener, especially if you’ve got plans. While stumbling upon hidden gems in a new city can be exciting, it’s not ideal when you’re racing against time to meet reservations.
This is why travel expert Neil Atkinson, the brains behind Luxury Group Stay, has revealed his number one trick for never losing your way – and it involves a bit of a throwback approach. Neil said: “Downloading an offline map of the area you’re travelling to is one of the most important travel hacks I always recommend. It’s completely free and can save you hours of stress, whether you’re exploring the Lake District or wandering through Barcelona.”
Having an offline map means even without data, you’re sorted. Just don’t forget to download the map while connected to the internet. Neil said: “I always tell people to do it before leaving home, or at least while still on hotel Wi-Fi.”
This tip will stop you getting lost(Image: electravk via Getty Images)
There are some drawbacks, although they’re small fry. Neil said: “You’ll only get driving directions when offline, not public transport routes, and you won’t see real-time traffic updates.”
The great news is offline maps are light on storage, so even for sprawling cities, you won’t need to fret over space, reports the Express.
Neil’s parting wisdom focuses on preparation: “Make sure to download a wider area than you think you’ll need. Better to have too much map than too little when you’re in the middle of nowhere!”.
To grab a map for offline use, just follow these steps:
Fire up your Google Maps app on your iPhone or Android
Hit your profile snap in the top right nook.
Choose “Offline maps” then “Select your own map”.
Tweak the blue square to blanket your intended spot.
Travelling solo can be an incredibly rewarding experience, but it can also be lonely. Travel expert Will Sarson has shared his top tips for beating loneliness while travelling alone.
Loneliness can be hard but these tips will help(Image: Alexander Spatari via Getty Images)
If you’ve ever ventured on a solo journey, you’ll know it’s an extraordinary adventure. Solo travel lets you set your own rhythm, immerse yourself in new cultures, and bond with the locals.
Yet, it can also pose its own set of challenges. Travelling on your own might sometimes lead to feelings of loneliness.
Will Sarson, Travel Expert at Riviera Travel, has shared his six essential tips for overcoming loneliness and maximising the enjoyment of your solo travel escapades. He advised: “Whether it’s friends or family you’re missing, it’s important to know what to do to navigate these feelings to get the most out of your trip.”
His primary advice is to have a plan full of activities – whether that’s a beach day or a guided excursion, reports the Express.
Will explained: “When enjoying a solo holiday, it’s important to plan ahead and arrange enjoyable activities to keep yourself engaged and avoid feelings of loneliness.”
Solo travel is a great way to see the world(Image: Thomas Barwick via Getty Images)
“Smaller tour groups are often a better choice for solo travellers. Many holiday packages are designed with this in mind, ensuring those travelling alone don’t feel overwhelmed or lost in a crowd.”
It’s equally crucial not to shy away from engaging with locals or fellow travellers. Even though it may seem daunting, initiating a conversation is worthwhile – you never know what insights you might gain.
Will remarked: “Taking that first step can increase the chances of establishing strong connections and making lifelong friends.”
Chatting with individuals from diverse countries, backgrounds and cultures can widen your horizons. Solo travel is supposed to be enlightening, and striking up conversations with new people plays a key role in this experience.
Opting for a cruise or group tour tailored for solo voyagers ensures you’ll be among other lone adventurers, offering company when desired or the option to relish solitude.
The evening often poses the greatest challenge to evade feelings of loneliness – spending the day exploring might keep it at bay. To combat feeling down as dusk falls, carving out some quality relaxation time is crucial.
Getting engrossed in an absorbing book or podcast, or taking an evening stroll through the local neighbourhood can be perfect remedies.
Will emphasises: “I believe it’s extremely important to plan for the downtime in the evenings, to avoid long nights with nothing to do – which naturally increases boredom and loneliness.”
Dedicate some down time in the evening(Image: Oscar Wong via Getty Images)
For those about to embark on a maiden solo journey and who may harbour some apprehension, Will suggests joining a dedicated tour for solo travellers. He advises: “These trips often include thoughtfully planned itineraries designed to keep solo travellers engaged and connected with others. For example, a welcome dinner on the first night gives travellers a chance to meet fellow solo travellers.”
Gone are the days when solo travellers had to make do with substandard lodgings, with many travel companies now offering spacious rooms or for those on cruises, double cabins that boast all the comforts one would expect on a group or family getaway.
If you find yourself still trying to stave off homesickness after booking a packed itinerary, taking some alone time, joining a tour, or attempting to forge new friendships, there’s no shame in reaching out back home. Will advises: “Checking in while abroad can give people a sense of comfort. Social media can be a great way of keeping in touch while on a solo trip while also allowing friends and family to know you’re safe.”
“It’s not often you get to enjoy a holiday on your own, so my best advice is to embrace it, learn from the experience and do your best to enjoy it! Solo travelling is a fulfilling experience that forces people to cultivate independence and enjoy their own space.”
BUYING a used car involves lots of decisions. What size and style do you want? Are you petrol, diesel, hybrid or EV? Should you buy as cheaply as possible or invest as much as you can?
We can’t answer any of these questions, but we can tell you what the UK’s most popular car for sale on Sun Motors is.
When it was launched, this compact crossover SUV pretty much defined the category. It’s nearly 20 years old but remains as popular as ever.
I’ve driven the Nissan Qashqai and I’ll give you my honest opinion of its good points, bad points and anything else I can remember that’s relevant.
What are the most popular used cars?
Sun Motors is a nationwide marketplace that connects thousands of buyers and dealers. We keep track of every purchase and can reveal our list of the 10 most popular used cars in the UK.
You already know that at the top of the charts is the Nissan Qashqai. Here’s a list of the rest…
Nissan Qashqai
VW Golf
Mercedes A-Class
Mini (all models)
Kia Sportage
BMW 1 Series
Ford Kuga

Nissan Qashqai used car review
The Nissan Qashqai may have a name that you’ll struggle to spell, but its appeal isn’t hard to spot.
It’s a crossover SUV, which means it looks like a car that’s capable of running off-road and has an elevated driving position, but in reality, it’s a pretty refined and reliable city car.
We’re going to talk about the second-generation (and subsequent) models that launched in 2013.
With this version, Nissan ironed out all the faults and created the UK’s favourite (sort of) SUVs.
It’s now beloved by middle managers, school-run mums and dads and anyone for whom a MINI was just a little bit too small.
Modern versions are even more aggressive-looking but, for our money, don’t look as good.
5
Models such as this Nissan Qashqai 1.5 dCi n-tec+ SUV 5dr Diesel Manual 2WD Euro 6 can be found on Sun Motors for as little as £130 per month – it has 68K miles and is from 2015
The high-up driving position offers great visibility, and the responsive handling makes the car manoeuvrable enough to slide into that supermarket parking spot.
OK, so it’s not going to knock your socks off or make you smile too much, but it’s a family car, so we never expected it would.

Sun Motors is a seamless, straightforward, transparent platform that ranks by customer searches, not payments. It offers innovative financing and concierge services, ensuring a simple, fair car-buying experience.
Enjoy:
A choice of fuel type whether it’s petrol, diesel, electric or hybrid
A range of models from convertible, estate, saloon and many more
A range of top brands such as Ford, Volkswagen, Toyota and BMW
There have been far too many engine variations (including petrol, diesel, hybrid and the latest e-POWER powertrain) for us to run through them all.
Reviewers seem to favour the 1.3-litre DIG-T 140 mild-hybrid petrol engine, and we won’t argue.
Bad points are, as you’d expect, few and far between. The Qashqai is quite expensive as a used car, with other makes and models perhaps a little cheaper to buy, run and insure.
The Qashqai is, like lots of crossovers, a bit of a fake too. It’s not really an off-roader like the Range Rover, but not many people need that sort of performance (or can afford the price).
Are Nissan Qashqais reliable?
The Nissan Qashqai isn’t quite as reliable as the bullet-proof Nissan cars of old, with the 2014-21 diesel models in particular suffering from engine and exhaust problems.
Overall though, it’s a sturdy family motor that shouldn’t leave you stranded by the roadside.
Try to buy one with a full service history, ensure all recalls are done and check receipts for any work.
How much is a Nissan Qashqai?
Nissan Qashqais start from £5,000 for a 10-year old (2015) model with over 100,000 miles on the clock. Nearly new models, including the e-POWER version, can cost over £35,000.
As a ballpark, expect to pay around £15-17,000 for a 2020 Qashqai.
It’s not the cheapest car on the market, with some used models that are as expensive as a new Dacia Duster, for example, but it’ll hold its value.
Is Nissan Qashqai a 4×4?
The Nissan Qashqai isn’t a true 4×4 like a Land Rover, Range Rover, etc, but you can find both front-wheel drive (FWD) and four-wheel drive (AWD) models on the market.
In off-road mode the 4×4 Qashqai will tackle difficult terrain like mud and gravel, more much more confidently than the 2WD version.
Most drivers who really need 4WD performance should look elsewhere. In the end, they probably already were.
Used Nissan Qashqais for sale
We’ve scoured Sun Motors to find three top used cars for sale. You’ll need to get in quick to secure these…
This isn’t the cheapest Qashqai on the market, but it’s arguably one of the best-value used motors we’ve seen.
Don’t let the 60,000+ miles on the clock put you off. This Acenta Premium model comes with 17” alloys, a good touchscreen and parking sensors.
It’ll do 55mpg all day long, too. That’s why this is our bargain buy.
Awesome auto: Nissan Qashqais SUV 1.3 DIG-T Tekna
5
Reviewers love the 1.3 litre DIG-T petrol engine for its power, control and reliability.
This automatic Qashqai is in Tekna trim, featuring cool 18-inch alloy wheels, a Bose sound system, and a head-up display. Nice.
High-class hybrid: Nissan Qashqai 1.5 E-Power Acenta Premium 5dr Auto
5
The 2024 Qashqai is a thoroughly modern car. Its petrol/electric hybrid motor produces an impressive 188bhp.
It’s quiet, quick and has the mean look of the new Qashqai.
This particular car has fewer than 5,000 miles on the clock, so it’s as nearly new as it gets.

The advice comes from a Financial Crime Manager, who explained how scammers are targeting holidaymakers
Scammers are targeting holidaymakers looking for deals (stock photo)(Image: Getty)
An expert is urging Brits to research deals before booking vacations after over £11 million was lost to holiday fraud in 2024. Siobhan Blagbrough, Financial Crime Manager at Ocean Finance, explained: “Everyone’s looking for a bargain break, and that makes us more likely to rush into things without checking the details properly.
“Fraudsters take advantage of the seasonal demand by posting fake listings, posing as landlords or travel agents, and demanding upfront payments for holidays that don’t exist.” She also warned against a Global Health Insurance Card scam, adding: “We’re also seeing people being tricked into paying for Global Health Insurance Cards (GHICs), which are free through the NHS.”
As per the NHS website, “The UK Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC) lets you get necessary state healthcare in the European Economic Area (EEA), and some other countries, on the same basis as a resident of that country (…) A UK GHIC is free and lasts for up to 5 years. Apply for your new card through the NHS website. Avoid unofficial websites – they may charge you a fee to apply.”
Unfortunately, it’s not the only scam aimed at UK holidaymakers. Siobhan said: “The most common trick is to pile on the pressure, scammers love using urgency to force quick decisions. If a deal seems too good to be true, take a step back and research before you book.”
Below, the expert shared five of the biggest holiday scams to watch out for.
Fake accommodation listings
Siobhan warned: “Fraudsters will post holiday homes that don’t exist or aren’t available for rent, taking payments upfront before disappearing. These listings often appear on social media or lesser-known websites. Always double-check the listing by running a reverse image search and booking through trusted platforms.”
Fraudsters often share fake accommodation listings (stock photo)(Image: Getty)
Clone comparison sites
“Some scammers go to great lengths to build fake versions of well-known holiday comparison or airline sites. They look almost identical but are set up purely to steal your payment details. Double-check the web URL and look out for subtle misspellings or unusual domain names,” the expert warned.
Bogus travel agents
“You might get a message from a ‘travel expert’ offering a last-minute deal that feels too good to ignore. They may even send what looks like a real booking confirmation,” the pro explained. “But behind the scenes, there’s no flight or hotel reservation. If they insist on a bank transfer or pressure you to book fast, walk away.”
Social media bargains
Siobhan said: “Many scammers use Facebook or Instagram to post holiday deals, but clicking through often leads to fake booking pages or demands for advance payments. They might say ‘only two spots left’ or ‘another family is interested’, but this urgency is all part of the scam.”
The expert said to be wary of social media bargains (stock photo)(Image: Getty)
Fake GHIC websites
“Applying for a Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC) through the NHS website is free, but scam websites sometimes charge a £30 – £40 fee to ‘process’ your application. These fake sites look professional and often rank high on search results, so it’s easy to be fooled,” the expert said.
How to protect your money
Siobhan suggested sticking to trusted sites and companies, paying by credit card for extra protection, and not ignoring warning signs. “If a deal looks unusually cheap for the time of year or destination, slow down and look a bit closer. Check whether the company is part of a recognised travel association like ABTA or ATOL. Even searching the company name with the word ‘scam’ can bring up useful results,” she said.
The expert added: “If you think you’ve been scammed, act fast. Contact your bank straight away – if the payment hasn’t gone through yet, they might be able to stop it. If it has, they can talk you through what to do next. It’s also important to report the scam to Action Fraud and Citizens Advice, and if the scam came via email, forward it to [email protected].”
A GARDENING expert has shared a simple trick to get your lawn looking lush and healthy, without needing to spend a penny.

However, if you’re planning on having any guests over for barbecues or garden parties, you may want to give your lawn a bit of a spruce up.
And although you may think that keeping your lawn in tip top condition will cost a bomb, Ivana Agustina, Head of Project Management atShrubHubrevealedone simple trick you can use that is completely free.
The expert revealed that instead of throwing grass clippings away after you finish mowing, you should leave them on the grass.
“One of the simplest tricks is to leave your grass clippings after mowing,” she told Fabulous.
“They break down fast and act as a natural fertiliser, giving your lawn a nutrient boost without costing a penny.”
Not only is this hack cost-effective, it will also save you time too, so you can spend more time relaxing in the sun.
Ivana also revealed that many gardeners are making a huge mistake when trying to get their lawns looking lush.
A lot of people over-water without realising it,” she told Fabulous.
Ivana said that instead of running a sprinkler throughout the day, you should deep water the grass twice a week in the morning.
We made our boring new build garden a Love Island style haven with bar & hot tub, but trolls say detail ‘ruined our day’
“This encourages the roots to grow deeper and makes your lawn more drought-resistant.
“You’ll use less water overall, and your lawn will actually look greener for it.”
As you will be using less water with this method you will savemoney, whilst making your lawn look lusher than ever.
STEVEN Bell, Managing Director of Paving Shopper, shared his insights on the true causes of lawn discoloration and how to maintain a lush, green lawn…
1) Sharpen mower blades
2) Prevent fungal disease with nitrogen fertiliser
3) Mow frequently
4) Aerate lawn with a fork
“People don’t realise that grass gets stressed just like any plant,” she said.
“Many gardeners make the common mistake of mowing their grass in the midday heat, without realising the harm this can do to the grass.
“If you mow it at the wrong time, you’re basically wounding the lawn when it’s least able to recover.”
The expert revealed that in spring the best time to mow your lawn is between 9 am and 11 am.
“Mowing during late morning means you’re not clogging your mower with wet clippings or baking the lawn in midday heat,” she said.
Ivana explained that one of the worst times to mow your grass is before 8 am as grass is still wet from morning dew, which leads to “uneven trimming”.
She added that between 2pm and 4pm is also not a good time to cut the grass, as this is the hottest part of the day, “which is bad news for moisture retention and overall lawn health.”
BBC Antiques Road Trip experts James Braxton and Raj Bisram went head to head in the latest episode of the show as they tried to score the biggest profit in the auction
Antiques Road Trip stars James Braxton and Raj Bisram were in fierce competition during a memorable episode, which saw them journeying separately throughout Somerset before a heated auction kicked off in Woking. While James became one with the Morris Men, Raj braved life in a tank, only to meet later for a showdown with their quirky finds.
The treasure hunt had them almost on par by the halfway mark, but James placed his bets on some slightly damaged Staffordshire figures, whereas Raj hoped for a win with his unique Moorcroft vase. The true game-changer was James revealing to a stunned Raj a Sir William Russell Flint print he’d cleverly bagged for just £8 – a piece adorned with the artist’s signature.
“I think James has done extremely well. He bought a Sir William Russell Flint print – signed – £8!” remarked an impressed Raj, unable to hide his shock at the low price: “£8? I can’t believe it!”

Excitement peaked at the auction as bids flew in both online and from the floor, culminating with the print going under the hammer for an impressive £150, leaving James over the moon with his lucrative find.
James was positively buzzing after the auction delivered a smashing result, beaming as he declared: “Top estimate! £150. Put it there Raj. Come on,” reports the Express.
Raj, just as chuffed with how things turned out, gleefully agreed to a celebratory handshake, saying: “Top estimate. That is a good profit. That’s worth a shake of the hand. Well done, well done James.”

In high spirits, Raj playfully tapped an elated James on the head with his papers in a fun show of camaraderie.
The host, Tim Wonnacott, couldn’t hold back his delight, laughing as he said: “Yes, that’s a great result for print and it’s profits all round.”
In another episode of the BBC show, Christina Trevanion and Mark Stacey were left astounded when a humble vegetable barrow they snapped up for a mere £10 transformed into a treasure at auction, commanding an unexpectedly high price.
Renowned for their prowess in the world of collectables, the duo watched in disbelief as the bids for what was nearly dismissed as mere firewood skyrocketed during a frenzied bidding session among eager collectors.
At the peak of the excitement, a shell-shocked Mark couldn’t help exclaiming: “Good Lord. Why?” while Christina, equally puzzled, replied, “I have no idea.”
As the numbers soared higher, Mark could only jest: “Can I go home now?” but Christina, basking in the success of her find, quickly responded: “No! Stay here and hold my hand!” The sale of the vegetable barrow concluded at an impressive £130.

The expert added: “You’re slicing into already-dry blades under a blazing sun.
“That kind of trauma leaves your grass vulnerable to pests, yellowing, and fungal infections.”
During the summer time, the expert revealed that the best time to mow is between 6 am and 8 am, as this allows you to avoid the heat.
Ivana said that cutting your lawn at the wrong time could lead to fungal diseases, uneven growth and increased weed risk.

The want-for-nothing palace
Thanks to The White Lotus, the Four Seasons hotel group has been the name on everyone’s lips lately. And the Four Seasons Hotel Ritz Lisbon – an inner-city five star delight – shows their prowess extends beyond the tropics of Thailand. Set in the north of central Lisbon, from the moment you arrive in the grand atrium, welcomed by expertly trained staff who already know your names, guests of all ages are treated exceptionally. Rooms are spotless and stylish, with expensive sheets and marbled bathrooms. Baby tubs, washcloths and child-friendly products were provided for bath time; and cots and day beds for bedtime. Fruit, pastel de natas (Portuguese custard tarts hailing from Lisbon), port and juice greeted us on entrance. Rooms on higher floors of the hotel have rooftop views, which make a lovely accompaniment to a cold glass of fizz of an evening.
When hungry, a Michelin-star restaurant – CURA – beckons. But it was the Ritz Bar and its understated yet delicious food that charmed our young family, with tasty treats like burgers and poke bowls on offer, and a super laid back atmosphere to boot.
For the weary, after a day of exploring there’s a fabulous spa with a carefully curated treatment menu. And for the sporty – or for those of us with energetic little ones – there’s a rooftop running track and gym. Because who doesn’t want to enjoy their 5k with a side salad of sunset city views? After a few spins I fear no run will ever live up to it. Family friendly luxury at its finest.

The wine lovers boutique paradise
Wine lovers listen up! The Palácio Ludovice Wine Experience Hotel has been designed to provide design-led, luxury accommodation… with wine tasting on tap!
Wine tasting is offered and encouraged, with hundreds of reds, whites, rosés, naturals, organics… you name it. Children are welcome to the tastings too. As you would imagine, the wine list at the hotel’s incredible restaurant, Federico, is encyclopedic, with plenty of food matches courtesy of the eatery’s sommeliers. The cocktails are fabulous too.
Set slap bang in the middle of Lisbon, Palácio Ludovice is the ideal base for exploring. It’s an easy walk from Castle San Jorge and the main shopping streets. Right outside the door is a beautiful viewpoint and next to it is the famous Gloria tram stop to take you down the hill on one of the city’s famous yellow funiculars.
Rooms are spacious, new-feeling in a good way, and full of gorgeous little gems like oval baths and brushed brass taps. The blue tiled walls (because it wouldn’t be Lisbon without some good tiles, right?) looked like something Instagram would be proud of.
There’s a relaxed, home-from-home, vibe at the hotel. Service is familiar and unfussy, yet slick when required. Children are welcomed wholeheartedly, and sofa beds, cots, and tasty menus (sadly sans wine pairing) are readily available.
*Rooms start from around £260, which includes breakfast

Where to eat
The mouthwatering market
No trip to Lisbon would be complete without an afternoon spent stuffing one’s face at the Time Out Market Lisboa. A cavernous warehouse space edged in eateries, and with a middle lined with long tables, there’s something for everyone to enjoy whether slightly peckish or absolutely ravenous. Oh, and there’s a bar too. A great spot for kids, lots of the food establishments have example plates laid out which provide a visual of what’s on offer. All tastes are catered for, with croquettes, octopus salads, pizzas, charcuterie platters and much much more. Set just back from the Tagus River, a little way along from Praça do Comércio, the main square of the city, the Time Out Market is super centrally located, making it a convenient (and moreish) pitstop no matter what your plans for the day are.

The relaxing rooftop
A family friendly rooftop restaurant? Yes, really. Run, don’t walk, to the Lumi Rooftop, a hidden gem atop the Lumiares Hotel in Barrio Alto, central Lisbon. Situated right next to Palácio Ludovice, a lift whisks you to the fifth floor where you’ll find a strip of tables and chairs nestled amid the terracotta roof tiles. Like a bunch of sleepy lizards we basked in the warm afternoon sun while enjoying a lunch of small sharing plates, with spicy prawns, octopus, cheeses and breads. A kids menu with classics like spaghetti bolognese kept our five year old happy. And the ultra relaxed vibe of the place kept her parents happy as she tucked in.

What to do
The under-the-sea aquarium
Consistently voted one of the best aquariums in the world, Oceanário de Lisboa is a must for both those with kids and those without. The number one attraction in Lisbon, it’s a great day out. Buggy friendly and accessible for wheelchairs, it sits a short drive, tram or bus away from the centre to the east, in the Parque das Nações. An enormous central tank is the star of the show, featuring sharks, rays, a wonderful sunfish and many many more. Around it are loads more tanks and viewing areas with plenty of seats, floor areas for little ones to sit and enjoy. I found it an easy place to breastfeed too as it was nice and dark. It kept both the five year old and 11 month old entertained for hours – a huge parenting win.

The castle on the hill
For its views of the city alone, Lisbon’s Castle San Jorge is well worth a visit. The walk to it is gorgeous too, up a hill through pretty winding streets. It’s a lovely place to wile away an hour or so, wandering around the walls. There’s a pack of peacocks that roam the castle grounds, too, floating around with their feathers on display.
Tickets cost €15 per adult. We chose a Lisboa Card however, which costs from €31 and includes travel around the city and entrance to many of the city’s attractions – including the castle. If you plan on hitting a few sights, it’s well worth it.

Princess Kate appeared emotional, as did her father-in-law, during the flypastCredit: James Whatling
Prince Louis, George and Charlotte delighted fans as they crowds a royal wave on the balcony this afternoon.
Royal expert Phil Dampier said: “Well, it’s fantastic to see a full turnout of royals today, I thought on the balcony when they actually had the fly past, and then they had the National Anthem.
“I thought it was a very, very poignant moment because this is the first time there hasn’t been a royal standing on that balcony to commemorate the VE Day since the end of the war.
“In other words with the passing of the Queen. A couple of years ago she was the last person who stood on that balcony with Winston Churchill at the end of the war to celebrate VE Day, and I think Charles would have been thinking about that. I think the other royals were thinking about that.
“I think Princess Anne would have been thinking about her mother and her father in particular and it was quite a poignant moment, because, you know, Prince Philip fought in the war.
“The Queen obviously served in the war as well, and was there, and remembered it and lived through it.
“And so there is the sadness at the passing of time that we’re losing that generation. And the next VE Day celebration very, very few of the veterans are still going to be with us sadly, and I think that really drove it home.
“You could see that the King was quite emotional. I thought Catherine, the Princess of Wales also looked quite emotional.
“They will have been thinking about their own personal battles with cancer, but really today was was all about the veterans, and it was all about thanking them for their service and thanking people who remembered, remembered the events of 80 years ago.”
‘PAID A VERY, VERY HEAVY PRICE’
The royal expert also touched on who wasn’t present on the balcony, namely Prince Harry and Prince Andrew.
Excited Louis, George & Charlotte join royal VE Day celebrations as they delight huge crowds
The disgraced Duke of York, 65, was spotted looking rather glum on a horse ride at the Royal Lodge in Windsor this morning.
It is the first time he has been seen this week as he is excluded from the poignant parade to mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day.
Experts last week declared the disgraced royal can’t do anything in public as the “mere glimpse of him is a story”.
Mr Dampier explained: “It was rather sad to see Prince Andrew out riding today, when really he should have been there had he played his cards right.
“Had he not been involved in this dreadful scandal involving Jeffrey Epstein, the person he associated with long after he should have done in America, he’s paid a very, very heavy price for that, and it is rather ironic that Prince Andrew, the Duke of York, and also the Duke of Sussex, Prince Harry weren’t able to go to these celebrations today when they are, in fact, the only two servicemen in recent years have actually fought in conflict.
Excited Louis, George & Charlotte give royal wave at VE Day flypast as they join Charles, Kate & Wills for celebrations
AN EXCITED Louis, George and Charlotte gave the royal wave to huge crowds as they joined King Charles, Prince William, and Princess Kate for a spectacular VE Day flypast.
Members of the royal family were out in full force at the celebrations, as King Charles waved to crowds alongside Princess Kate, Prince William, and their three children – George, 11, Charlotte, 10, and Louis, 7 – at the event.
The children were seen gazing into the sky, alongside their parents, as the procession of 23 aircraft, including the Red Arrows, flew overhead.
In a playful moment, Prince Louis was seen playing the drums on the balcony’s edge, having earlier had a cheeky dance before helping dad Wills brush his jacket clean.
Countless people lined up along The Mall in order to commemorate the end of the war, with many donning patriotic outfits.
As God Save The King rang out over the crowd, loud cheers erupted, with Charlotte, Louis, and George giving the royal wave to the enormous audience.
Some spectators were spotted draped in Union Jacks while others wore poppy-inspired clothing as the aircraft, led by Lancaster bombers from World War Two, flew overhead.
The stunning flypast ended with the iconic Red Arrows racing across the sky, leaving behind a sentimental trail of red, white, and blue.
Thousands of spectators had flooded into The Mall to grab the best spots to watch the aircraft fly overhead.
Earlier, troops paraded along Whitehall and The Mall, in front of thousands of spectators, members of the royal family, veterans, and senior officials.
In a touching moment, King Charles was seen saluting cavalry members as they rode by the stage, set out at the Victoria Monument in front of Buckingham Palace.
The King stood tall to pay his respects to the armed forces, with whom the royal family have a deep connection and history with.
Prince William had been seen shaking the hands of one veteran as he took his seat to watch the procession.
His children followed his example, with Kate the last to greet the serviceman as she sat beside him.
“I think that is one of the saddest elements of what’s happened to both of them.
“The fact that they’re unable now to join in with these these big state occasions, these big events because they once had such close ties to the military.
“So that’s extremely sad and extremely poignant. But unfortunately, in both cases. They have brought this on themselves.
“I’m sure that the King would like to reconcile with his son Prince Harry, and I’m sure he’d prefer it if both of them could have been there. But sadly, that’s not to be under the current circumstances.”
The expert added how he hoped Prince Harry would offer “a period of silence” out of respect.
“Meghan couldn’t help herself posting a picture of Harry and her children that she took in California a day or so ago,” he added.
“We can move forward from here. But I have my doubts whether Harry, in particular, will learn his lesson.”
As Prince Louis took his seat alongside dad Wills, he showed off some adorable dance moves.
He moved his shoulders from side to side as he looked out into the crowd.
The youngster was then spotted affectionately brushing raindrop off his father’s shoulder.
Prince William turned towards his son and appeared to give him a tap on the leg.
As the parade continued, all three children looked towards their father and smiles as he spoke to them.
Lip reading expert Nicola Hickling revealed to The Sun that Wills told Louis: “Look at this I think it’s going to be quite wet today.”
Louis then said to William “Wasn’t this supposed to be fun” and his dad replied “It is son”.
The dad-of-three also said “you will never forget this” before explaining how the parade will work.
“They will come along here, and then go towards there, and then we will make our way back,” he said.
He added: “It’s not going to be long and I want you to be taking an interest.
Prince George, 11, chimed in: “I’ve got something in my eye.”
The professional lip reader also shared a sweet message from Princess Kate.
The mum-of-three said to her daughter, 10: “Doesn’t papa look smart today”.
Mr Dampier commented: “It was wonderful to see the three kids again.
“It’s always fascinating to watch them. Louis only seven a couple of weeks ago, and Charlotte only 10 last week, growing up fast.
“George looks pretty much the same, aged 11. He still looks quite serious, I think, sometimes.
“I did think to myself I wonder how many of those three kids will actually end up doing military service themselves.
“Certainly Louis looks like he could well be an action man. I suspect that at least one or two of them will.”
The expert touched on the picture Kate and Wills shared to celebrate Charlotte’s 10th birthday last week.
She donned camouflage style battle fatigues, which Mr Dampier said could be a “hint” that she’s interested in the military.
PAYING TRIBUTE
The former Royal Commentator highlighted how the King and Queen interacted with the veterans today.
“Camilla even shared her blanket,” said the expert.
“The royals were very, very engaged, and making it all about the veterans.
“It was quite significant that the king chose to wore a simple naval uniform, like his grandfather King George VI did on VE Day.
“No medals, no great fanfare, just having a simple uniform, and that was really paying tribute to the people who’d made the ultimate sacrifice. And the people who’d actually fought in the war.”

A GARDENING expert says there’s a better way to beat weeds without relying on harsh tricks or chemical sprays.
In gardens across the UK, weeds are a common headache.

White vinegar is another popular option, but it’s acidic and can alter your soil’s pH, which may affect future plant growthCredit: Getty
They sprout in patio cracks, creep through flower beds, and quickly take over any unattended patch of soil.
But before you grab the kettle or a bottle of vinegar, it might be time to take a gentler, smarter approach.
Melissa Quinney, gardening expert at Cabin Master, says the key to weed-free spaces is rethinking how we manage our gardens, and letting nature do more of the work.
“A high-maintenance garden is often a cluttered one,” she explains.
“If you’re always weeding and clearing, consider planting ground cover like creeping thyme or clover.
“These plants suppress weeds by covering the soil, reducing the space and sunlight weeds need to grow.”
Creeping thyme is a top choice for sunny borders and garden paths.
It spreads low and wide, smells lovely when stepped on, and adds beauty as well as function.
It’s also tough and low-maintenance, perfect for busy gardeners.
Clover, meanwhile, not only stops weeds but also boosts your garden’s health.
“It improves soil by fixing nitrogen,” says Melissa.
“That means your other plants will benefit, too, and you don’t need chemical fertilisers.”
Also avoid disturbing the soil too much.
Many gardeners make the mistake of constantly digging or turning over flower beds, thinking it helps.
But it can actually bring buried weed seeds to the surface, giving them a better chance to grow.
Melissa recommends a “no-dig” approach instead.
“If you’ve got piles of fallen leaves, leave them in place,” she advises. “Let them break down into mulch.
“It’s free, it locks in moisture, and it helps stop weed seeds from taking hold.”
She adds: “Nature has a way of tidying itself if we let it.
“The more you work with it, the less time you spend battling weeds — and the more time you get to enjoy your garden.”
Many people see boiling water as a chemical-free fix for weeds.
It’s quick, cheap and easy, just pour it on and watch the leaves shrivel up.
But this method can cause more harm than good.
Boiling water damages plant cells on contact, but it rarely kills the root completely.
That means the weed can return within days, often tougher than before.
Worse still, it’s hard to control. A splash too far and you could scald nearby plants or damage your lawn.
It’s especially risky in flower beds, borders or vegetable patches.
White vinegar is another popular option, but it’s acidic and can alter your soil’s pH, which may affect future plant growth.
Instead of using harsh methods, Melissa says to think long-term.
“With the right ground cover, smart soil care and less digging, you’ll spend far less time pulling weeds and far more time enjoying your space.”
How to find gardening bargains
Doing up your garden to enjoy on warm and sunny days needn’t cost the earth.
Sun Savers Editor Lana Clements explains how to get a top deal on items for the garden…
You can bag big savings on plants, shrubs and flowers, as well as gardening tools and furniture.
Many retailers have flash sales across entire seasonal ranges – often these promotions tie into payday at the end of the month or Bank Holiday weekends, so keep a lookout.
Sign up to mailing lists of your favourite brands and you’ll be first to know of special offers. It can be worth following retailers on social media too.
Use a price comparison site to search out the best value items.
And keep a close eye on the specialbuys at Aldi and middle of Lidl drops which drop a couple of times a week and usually mean great value seasonal items for your outdoor areas.
If you are not in a hurry to buy an item, try adding it to the shopping cart online and leaving it for a couple of days.
Sometimes big brands will try to tempt you into the sale by offering you a discount.
And always check if you can get cashback before paying.
It’s especially worth using sites such as Topcashback, Quidco and app Jamdoughnut when buying bigger ticket items such as garden furniture as you’ll get a nice kickback.

Christine said in her statement: “I joined Celebs Go Dating with great intentions but have realised that dating on a public platform and the attention that brings is just too soon for me.
“They’ve said the door is always open for me which I’m so grateful but for now I’m returning home to my family.” A spokesperson for Celebs Go Dating said in a statement that those behind the show have “loved” working with Christine and “respect her feelings”.
They said: “We have loved having Christine on the show and completely respect her feelings and decision to return home and have told her that the door is always open for her in the future at the agency.”

Following her statement, Dr Tara, the show’s ‘sexpert’, shared her thoughts on the departure and said it was ‘incredibly brave’ of Christine to recognise ‘when the timing isn’t right’.
“Her situation outside of the show is very complex so we will focus on helping her gain clarity about what she wants to do moving forward and build confidence in dating again,” Dr Tara said to The Sun.
“As a dating expert, I admire Christine for putting her wellbeing first. Opening up to love on such a public platform isn’t easy, and it’s incredibly brave to recognise when the timing isn’t right.” She added the show would ‘welcome her back with open arms’ if she feels ready in the future.
Dr Tara is currently out in Ibiza filming alongside returning experts Anna Williamson and Paul C Brunson, alongside celebrity clients including Kerry Katona and Love Island star, Olivia Hawkins.
Christine’s involvement with the show comes three years on from the news that she had separated from Paddy McGuinness. The former couple, who have three children together, announced that they had split up back in 2022.
Speaking about joining the show, Christine previously said: “I’m really excited to be joining the agency, I’m going to have a summer of fun! Who knows what might happen? I’ve not really dated much before, so I feel like I’m doing a crash course!
“I’m looking forward to getting to know the other celebs and I’m especially looking forward to the coaching side of things with the agents. I think that’s going to be good for me.”
