Are Dream Team bosses making a mistake selecting the most-popular goalkeeper in the game?

THE last thing we want to do is cause a panic among Dream Team managers before a ball has been kicked.

But it’s our duty to highlight any discrepancies worthy of discussion as the Gameweek 1 deadline draws near and so we feel compelled to discuss Caoimhin Kelleher (£3m).

As it stands, the Republic or Ireland international is set to start the 2025/26 season as the most popular goalkeeper in Dream Team.

MOST POPULAR GOALKEEPERS IN DREAM TEAM AHEAD OF GAMEWEEK 1 (% OWNERSHIP)

  • 11.6%  Caoimhin Kelleher
  • 9.7%  Robert Sanchez
  • 9.2%  Matz Sels
  • 9%  David Raya
  • 8.7%  Alisson

Before we get cynical, let’s be clear that Kelleher is a very fine keeper.

Last season, he performed superbly for Liverpool while Alisson was sidelined with injury for a sustained period from mid-October until Christmas.

Most notably, he saved two penalties in the space of four days against Southampton and Real Madrid to grab the headlines.

During this time, Kelleher was something of a Dream Team cheat code as he was a cheap starter for the best team in the country and gaffers who took advantage of this situation were rewarded with plentiful points.

In fact, his average of 5.3 points-per-game was among the highest in his position for 2024/25.

This summer, the 26-year-old has transferred from Liverpool to Brentford in a move that will make him No1 for the first time in his career.

Kelleher’s historical record and the promise of increased minutes are the reasons he’s a popular choice among Dream Team bosses, not to mention his affordable price.

However, at the risk of coming across all doom and gloom, there are some issues to be addressed.

Firstly, a simple truth must be stated: Brentford are not Liverpool.

Clean sheets are the primary currency for keepers in Dream Team but it generally takes a team effort to repel the opposition.

You could have Lev Yashin, Gigi Buffon and Manuel Neuer all between the sticks at once but if they aren’t given suitable protection then it is inevitable they will concede goals.

Last season, Brentford conceded 57 league goals, 16 more than champions Liverpool.

But even that doesn’t tell the full story of the disparity between Kelleher’s old club and his new employers.

The Bees conceded a whopping 646 shots in total, only Southampton gave up more opportunities.

Mark Flekken, Brentford goalkeeper, at a Premier League match.

The xG stats are kinder to the West London outfit, suggesting that six teams defended worse, but Dream Team managers should realise that clean sheets will be much harder for Kelleher to come by at the Gtech.

His predecessor, Mark Flekken, made more saves (159) than any other Dream Team goalkeeper last season, another indication of Brentford’s defensive vulnerabilities.

Of course, racking up lots of saves is another way to earn points – perhaps Kelleher’s best avenue going forward – but it’s difficult to make waves without clean sheets and let’s not forget that conceding goals can lead to minus points.

Another big concern is that Brentford might find life harder in the top flight this campaign.

They have lost Thomas Frank, Christian Norgaard and Bryan Mbeumo, with Yoane Wissa also linked to other clubs.

Keith Andrews has been appointed head coach and has a huge task ahead of him.

Pre-season predictions are often foolish in hindsight but many pundits are envisaging a taxing season for the Bees.

We’re not saying that Kelleher is a horrible selection but, given all the factors, it seems unusual that he’s more popular than all his rivals.

Iconic homeware chain HALVES its UK workforce as bosses focus on ‘nailing the basics’ after £20million sales slump

HOMEWARE giant Wayfair has slashed its UK workforce by more than half in just two years, as it grapples with tumbling sales and a sharp drop in profit.

The US-based furniture retailer, which operates across Britain, cut staff numbers from 847 in 2022 to just 405 by the end of 2024, according to fresh filings with Companies House.

Retail experts say changing consumer habits, rising costs and weaker demand are continuing to batter the home and furniture sector

The dramatic reduction follows a tough period for the business, with UK turnover plunging from £83.4million in 2022 to just £59.4million last year.

Profits also took a hit, with pre-tax earnings slipping from £2.6million to £2.2million over the same period.

Wayfair said it had made a 17 per cent cut to administrative expenses and was now focused on “driving cost efficiency” and “nailing the basics” as it tried to steady the ship.

Despite the ongoing slowdown, bosses remain upbeat about the retailer’s long-term prospects and said the group is working towards maintaining profitability and generating positive free cash flow.

The wider company reported a net revenue of $11.9billion (£8.8billion) globally last year – down $152million (£112million) on the year before.

International sales fell to $1.5billion (£1.1billion), while revenue in its core US market dropped to $10.4billion (£7.7billion).

Wayfair recorded a net loss of $492million (£363million) despite raking in $3.6billion (£2.7billion) in gross profits.

There was some relief in early 2025, as first-quarter results showed a $1billion (£740million) rise in total revenue, thanks to a modest recovery in US sales.

However, international takings continued to fall, dipping by $37million (£27million) to $301million (£223million).

Iconic department store follows Macy’s and reveals it’s ‘forced’ to close down in weeks after ‘more than a century’

Wayfair isn’t the only retailer feeling the pinch on the high street. Furniture favourite MADE.com collapsed into administration in 2022 after failing to find a buyer, leading to hundreds of job losses.

Habitat also shut down all standalone stores in 2021, moving exclusively online after years of underperformance.

Even major players have been forced to adapt.

Wilko closed its doors for good in 2023 after nearly a century in business, with more than 400 stores shutting and 12,000 staff affected.

Argos has continued to reduce its physical footprint, shutting dozens of standalone shops and moving into parent company Sainsbury’s stores to save costs.

Retail experts say changing consumer habits, rising costs and weaker demand are continuing to batter the home and furniture sector.

Many shoppers have tightened their belts amid soaring bills and higher interest rates, with big-ticket items like sofas and beds often the first to be cut from household budgets.

Wayfair bosses said the company remains “resilient” in the face of economic uncertainty and is pressing ahead with its long-term strategy to streamline operations and stay competitive.

RETAIL PAIN IN 2025

The British Retail Consortium has predicted that the Treasury’s hike to employer NICs will cost the retail sector £2.3billion.

Research by the British Chambers of Commerce shows that more than half of companies plan to raise prices by early April.

A survey of more than 4,800 firms found that 55% expect prices to increase in the next three months, up from 39% in a similar poll conducted in the latter half of 2024.

Three-quarters of companies cited the cost of employing people as their primary financial pressure.

The Centre for Retail Research (CRR) has also warned that around 17,350 retail sites are expected to shut down this year.

It comes on the back of a tough 2024 when 13,000 shops closed their doors for good, already a 28% increase on the previous year.

Professor Joshua Bamfield, director of the CRR said: “The results for 2024 show that although the outcomes for store closures overall were not as poor as in either 2020 or 2022, they are still disconcerting, with worse set to come in 2025.”

Professor Bamfield has also warned of a bleak outlook for 2025, predicting that as many as 202,000 jobs could be lost in the sector.

“By increasing both the costs of running stores and the costs on each consumer’s household it is highly likely that we will see retail job losses eclipse the height of the pandemic in 2020.”

Strictly bosses ‘in talks’ with England rugby legend amid rumours over pro pairing

Strictly Come Dancing is set to return later this year with pros like Nadiya Bychkova having already begun rehearsals, ahead of the line-up of contestants being announced

A retired rugby union player is reportedly in talks to appear on Strictly Come Dancing. There’s already speculation over who they could be partnered with for the BBC dance contest if they end up taking part in the upcoming series.

The show is set to return later this year and rehearsals underway for the professional dancers. The line-up of contestants for the new series of Strictly has yet to be announced, but there’s been speculation over potential contestants in recent weeks.

Chris Robshaw, 39, who captained England’s national team, is now among those rumoured for the dancefloor when the show returns. Since his retirement from rugby in 2022, he’s already been on Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins.

It’s been teased that Chris would likely be paired up with pro Nadiya Bychkova, 35, if he does Strictly this year. She was announced as one of the returning dancers in April, alongside two new additions to the pro line-up.

Chris, who is married to classical singer Camilla Kerslake, is thought to be almost 6 foot 2 inches tall so there’s speculation that Nadiya would be only pro close to matching his stature, unless he has a same-sex partner for the competition. A source teased to the Sun that Chris, who is reportedly in “advanced talks” for Strictly, and returning pro Nadiya could deliver “sizzling performances” if they are partnered on the show.

The source said: “Chris is likely to be the hunkiest celebrity signing for the 2025 show and if he does get paired with Nadiya will deliver some sizzling performances. But as a former rugby star he’ll also have some big dance shoes to fill as plenty of other players have gone onto Strictly and done remarkably well.”

A number of former rugby players have competed on Strictly since the TV show launched in 2004, with Martin Offiah placing fourth in the first series. Matt Dawson was runner-up in 2006 and Kenny Logan then placed fifth in 2007.

Austin Healey also achieved a top five position when he competed in 2008, having placed fourth. Gavin Henson, who appeared on the show in 2010, and Ben Cohen, who competed in 2013, ended up in fifth and eighth place respectively.

More recently, contestants with a background in rugby haven’t done as well on Strictly though. Thom Evans placed twelfth when he competed in the ballroom back in 2014 and Ugo Monye placed eleventh in the contest in 2021.

The line-up of contestants for the new series has yet to be announced. The BBC however has already confirmed which pros will be returning to the dancefloor, with Nadiya among the dancers coming back for another series.

Nadiya and the other pros have already started rehearsing for the upcoming series. They have posted updates from training on Instagram, including introducing Alexis Warr and Julian Caillon, who are the newest pros on the show.

A photo of the group together in a dance studio was shared by Nadiya last night. She wrote in the caption: “Back in the ballroom bubble with the best in the business. Another season, another adventure – and I’m so ready for it.”

ITV bosses ‘to slash 10% of cast’ at two MAJOR soaps amid ‘brutal’ budget woes

ITV executives are said to be preparing to axe one in 10 cast members from both Coronation Street and Emmerdale as part of fresh cost-cutting measures

Emmerdale Village, featuring the Woolpack pub
‘Emmerdale’ TV Show, Episodes 9482-9501 UK – Oct 2022
Emmerdale, is a British ITV long running soap opera, known as Emmerdale Farm until 1989, set in Emmerdale, a fictional village in the Yorkshire Dales. It was created by Kevin Laffan and was first broadcast on 16 October 1972. It was originally produced by ITV Yorkshire and is still filmed in their Leeds studios.

ITV chiefs are reportedly planning sweeping cast reductions across their two premier soaps, with proposals to cut one in ten performers as part of new budget-slashing initiatives.

Both Coronation Street and Emmerdale may also witness fewer scenes per episode as ITV seeks to trim an additional £15 million from its overall spending, according to The Sun.

The broadcaster’s earnings have allegedly plummeted by 44 per cent to £99 million during the first six months of the year, sparking a fresh drive to curb production expenses.

Insiders suggest bosses are now pressing soap creators to reduce their escalating costs, with cast sizes being a primary target for scrutiny.

Coronation Street presently features 84 regular cast members, whilst Emmerdale boasts 70, reports the Express.

An insider revealed: “It’s brutal. We’ve known it was on the cards for a while, but they’re really cranking it up now and it’s across the soaps.

“They’re looking to save millions and Corrie and Emmerdale are the obvious places. They’re very expensive shows.

“Many who have been there for a long time are reliant on their income staying as it is.

“The amount of cast has spiralled out of control and focusing on dialogue, not action, could also save money.”

Industry sources have also hinted that the number of scenes per episode – currently averaging around 20 – might be reduced to lower filming expenses.

Fewer personalities could also feature in individual episodes to help maintain tighter budgets.

While some long-standing cast members are on full-time contracts with salaries, most are paid per episode, which means that reducing screen time or overall scenes could significantly cut costs.

These proposed changes come as ITV makes cuts across its daytime schedule. Good Morning Britain, Lorraine, This Morning and Loose Women have all reportedly been affected, with hundreds of staff being made redundant in recent months.

In response to reports of soap cast reductions, an ITV spokesperson stated: “This is complete speculation.”

Huge victory for Brits as Spanish hotel bosses hit back at anti-tourist attacks

Brit tourists should not be used as a ‘punching bag’ for the worsening housing crisis impacting Spain, hotel bosses have warned in a major clap-back at protesting locals

MALLORCA, SPAIN - AUGUST 11: Members of the Mallorca Platja Tour association demonstrate against the tourist saturation on the beach of Palma de Mallorca on August 11, 2024 in Mallorca, Spain. This is the third protest this summer over excessive tourism in Mallorca, which many locals blame on a cost-of-living crisis on the island. (Photo by Carlos Alvarez/Getty Images)

Hotel bosses on a tourist-engulf Spanish island have jumped to the defence of Brits following a string of confrontational protests. Last year, a staggering 15.3 million international visitors flocked to the Balearics – a beautiful archipelago made up of Majorca, Ibiza and Menorca. The influx resulted in fed-up locals storming the streets en masse – waving banners demanding holidaymakers ‘go home’.

Arguing the rising demand of holiday rentals is pricing them out of the property market – and worsening the country’s housing crisis – residents even took to squirting Brits with water pistols to get their message across.

Anti-tourist sentiment in Spain has spiralled out of control in recent years(Image: AFP via Getty Images)

The latest protest, which took place just last month, comes as activists vowed to unleash ‘misery’ for Brits during the busy summer period. However, it seems the Mallorca Hotel Business Federation (FEHM) is pushing back on the island’s anti-tourist landscape by launching a new campaign.

The initiative, which aims to thank millions of tourists for visiting the island and raise awareness of the ‘importance of tourism’ to the economy, has seen around twenty billboards distributed throughout Mallorca, using positive and welcoming messages in English and German.

According to local news site Majorca Daily Bulletin, Javier Vich, the president of the federation, said: “We cannot allow a radical minority to damage the work carried out over many years by so many people who have made tourism their way of life… Tourism cannot be the punching bag for all the structural problems of this community.”

Javier added that every month during the high season, a staggering 235,000 salaries are paid in sectors linked to tourism. This includes workers in the transport, catering, culture, leisure and hospitality sectors.

The hotel boss went on to argue that Spain risks suffering a slowdown in bookings during the summer season, and more and more Brits flock to rival destinations like Greece and Turkey – which ‘welcome tourists with a red carpet’. Even Morocco – which has long struggled to attract high levels of tourism, has seen its visitor numbers surge in recent months.

 Spanish hoteliers

“We must also be aware of their value,” Javier warned. “Mallorca has been, is and must continue to be a hospitable land…” While the campaign may be well received by self-serving hotel bosses, that cash in on tourism, it’s safe to say the news won’t go down well with locals demanding change.

And still – despite the alarming number of protests and graffiti that have been smeared across Spain – British expat Sandra Laurie, who has lived in Spain for nine years, says Brits should continue visiting Spain. “Local businesses, restaurants, and shops have built their success on welcoming tourists from all over the world,” she exclusively told the Mirror earlier this year.

“If you have a trip planned—don’t let the headlines deter you. The Costa del Sol and other popular destinations are buzzing with life. The beaches are packed, the pueblos are alive with energy, and both locals and tourists are soaking up the sun, relaxing, and making the most of everything Spain has to offer.” Of course, Sandra says being a ‘respectful’ visitor is key to being welcomed to the sunny country.

Celebrity Traitors hit with major problem as cast ignore warning from bosses

The contestants on the UK’s three regular series of The Traitors happily kept schtum when told to by producers – but the famous faces are finding it a little bit harder

Traitors host Claudia Winkleman
The contestants in the star-studded version are finding it tricky to stay quiet about the show, to air in the autumn

The stars taking part in Celebrity Traitors have all been sworn to secrecy about what went on inside the famous Scottish castle. But while that tactic worked weil for the regular version, the celebs are finding it harder to hold their tongues about the much-anticipated BBC show, due to air this autumn.

Ted Lasso actor Nick Mohammed has revealed how one celebrity threw a tantrum because TV chiefs would not tell them the time. He said: “When we were in the castle you’d be like ‘What’s the time?’ And they’d say ‘It’s Traitors time.’ That was their response..

“Every single member of production had to answer with that until someone kicked off. And then someone said it is basically all right and you can tell us the time.” Speaking on a podcast, he added: ”I do think it’s going to be good telly. To see these celebrities together and interacting in this game will be really interesting.”

The lineup of stars trying to identify the Traitors among the Faithful includes Jonathan Ross, Alan Carr, Clare Balding, Paloma Faith, Kate Garraway, Mark Bonner and Charlotte Church.

Netflix actress Ruth Codd has let slip that she wasn’t keen on every single person taking part. She teased: “Some of the people on it were really, really nice.”

And the Irish star of hit dramas The Midnight Club and Fall of the House of Usher claimed producers grilled her before filming to find out whether she was a good liar – so they could work out whether to make her a Traitor.

Actor and comedian Nick Mohammed

She added: “They do ask ‘Are you good at lying? Are you a good judge of character?’ I said, ‘Maybe, because I’m an actor..’”

Olympic diver Tom Daley has revealed that the dramatic music played when the contestants all sit around the big table is not added on after filming – it is actually played when they are there to increase the tension. He said: “You know how when you are watching the show they always play a song at the beginning when the camera goes around the table and shows everyone, well they actually play that.

“So what you see on TV and you think ‘Oh that’s just music added over the top’. No! That’s happening! It makes you go like ‘Ohhhhh!!!”

Comedian Alan Carr compared the show to ‘rehab’ because all the celebrities had their phones and electronic gadgets taken off them. Speaking during one of his podcasts, he laughed :“It was like rehab. It’s cheaper than rehab. They took my phone away. They took my laptop.

“When I got the phone back I was like ‘S**t’ Now I get a lot of spam but I was like.. ‘2000 emails? Oh my god!’ and you start thinking ‘My mum and dad aren’t well’ but then it’s like ‘Hi. Do you wanna buy a freezer?’”

And he teased TV chiefs who told him not to breathe a word about what happened on the show before it gets broadcast, adding: “I’m bezzie mates with Rebekah Vardy who I’ve given all The Traitors gossip to and I know I feel safe with her knowing that!” Rebekah was famously caught up in the “Wagatha Christie” scandal where she was accused of leaking secrets from ex pal Coleen Rooney’s Instagram account.

Stephen Fry
Harry Potter narrator Stephen Fry joked the regular show could now be known as the “Muggle version”(Image: PA)

Author and raconteur Stephen Fry loved being on the star-studded special hosted by Claudia Winkleman, comparing it with being back at boarding school. The national treasure – who narrates the Harry Potter audiobooks – joked that the regular series with members of the public was “the Muggle version”. One insider said the biggest fear from show bosses was that the stars wouldn’t put their all into the gameplay and the missions – but found that they needn’t have worried. “The first mission showed just how committed they were to doing it properly,” one source said. “They gave 100%. It was fantastic to see.”

BBC bosses want Gregg Wallace to make shock MasterChef return despite sacking

The Mirror can reveal that BBC bosses are convinced that Gregg Wallace’s filmed MasterChef episodes will still air despite the presenter’s recent sacking from the show

Gregg Wallace may make a shock return to MasterChef
Gregg Wallace may make a shock return to MasterChef

Gregg Wallace may have been sacked from MasterChef but bosses at the BBC and production company Banijay are convinced the series he’d already filmed before the scandal could yet be saved. One option is that the cookery competition, which cost an estimated £8million to make and was intended to run for 24 hour-long episodes across eight weeks on primetime BBC1, could be shown on iPlayer only.

The decision over its future on BBC1 will fall to director general Tim Davie, who must choose whether to show it on BBC1 or iPlayer or shelve it if it was deemed inappropriate. The BBC said that decision would only be made once the report from law firm Lewis Silkin is made public later this week.

Gregg Wallace's 'heart attack' as fresh details of shock response to MasterChef axe emerge
Gregg Wallace has been fired from MasterChef(Image: BBC /Shine TV)

One insider said: “Once the report comes out, we will all know what the legal review has found. Gregg has claimed that many of the more serious allegations against him have not been upheld, and has apologised for the rude and inappropriate language he used, causing complaints that were upheld. The feeling is the series is not dead yet – there are high hopes that it could yet see the light of day.”

The 24-part pre-recorded series was put on ice earlier this year after 13 women came forward to complain about presenter Wallace, 60. Since then, BBC News has claimed that 50 more allegations about him have been made by women, ranging from inappropriate language to groping and sexual intimidation, which he vehemently denies.

Sources close to the show – recorded last year – have said it would be “impossible” to cut him out entirely. As a judge alongside John Torode, Wallace is integral to the format and editing the series to limit his time on screen has also been ruled out.

It comes amid rumours that the winner of the series is considering legal action over their triumph not making it to the screen. One insider said: “For that person, the series not being shown has massive ramifications. They may well have wanted to launch a cookery career off the back of it and now feel that this controversy is preventing that opportunity – through no fault of their own.”

Gregg Wallace
Gregg Wallace’s filmed series of MasterChef could still air(Image: BBC)

For the contestants, and especially for those who reach the final and the winner, taking part in MasterChef is huge. The show has been life-changing for a great many people who have gone on to pursue careers in cooking.

“These 24 episodes are finished and have been delivered to the BBC. To not show them would be a huge waste of licence fee payers’ money,” one insider said.

“One option is to limit the amateur series with Gregg as presenter to just an iPlayer showing. But it deserves more than that because the brand is huge for the BBC and so many viewers love watching it on BBC1.”

Last year the show celebrated its 20th anniversary with an event attended by 72 former contestants, including many champions whose professional lives changed course as a direct result of taking part. The show also has a dedicated production team who put in many hours of work in order to make the 21st series.

The BBC1 series – which cost an estimated £8million to make – should have been shown earlier this year but was put on ice while the review continued.

Wallace’s co-host John Torode is expected to continue on the show, flanked by a new presenter likely to be Grace Gent, who stepped in for Wallace on the celebrity version earlier this year, filmed in the new Birmingham studio and expected to start next month.

Another contender is Saturday Kitchen presenter Matt Tebbutt, who was drafted in for MasterChef: The Professionals alongside judges Marcus Wareing and Monica Galetti. Filming on that series is just finishing and it is likely to air towards the end of the year in is usual slot.

The BBC said no decision has yet been made on whether the amateur show will air, or on who will be the next presenter of the main series.

The regular version of MasterChef normally goes out in the spring and this year has been replaced by a range of programming including The Repair Shop on the Road and repeats of Who Do You Think You Are?

Whatever the decision over the 21st MasterChef series, featuring Gregg Wallace, casting is already underway for the 22nd series, with applications now open via the show’s Instagram account.

Those who support Wallace says he is being made a scapegoat by those who are trying to protect the hugely important MasterChef brand, claiming he is guilty only of having a “terrible sense of humour” and telling rude jokes at inappropriate moments. But the many claims against him, some going back more than 14 years, include flashing, groping and inappropriate sexual comments.

The official report is expected to be published today (THURS) or tomorrow, with Wallace claiming it will only be a short executive summary rather than the full findings.

He has questioned why “others” on the programme have not also had complaints against them investigated, saying in his post on social media earlier this week: “What really concerns me about the short summary is others who have been found guilty of serious allegations have been erased from the published version of events. I, and I’m sure the public, would like to know why?”

He has also hired a lawyer and vowed to fight his sacking, vowing: “I will not go quietly. I will not be cancelled for convenience. The full story of this incredible injustice must be told and it is very much a matter of public interest.”

Jon Stewart takes on his own bosses over Paramount’s Trump settlement

Jon Stewart took aim at his network’s parent firm Paramount Global for paying $16 million to settle President Trump’s lawsuit against CBS News, calling the move a payoff for approval of a pending merger.

On the Monday edition of Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show,” Stewart and guest and former “60 Minutes” correspondent Steve Kroft laid out the details of the legal skirmish, which they agreed felt like an organized crime shakedown.

“I’m obviously not a lawyer, but I did watch ‘Goodfellas,’” Stewart said. “That sounds illegal.”

Last week, Paramount Global agreed to pay $16 million to settle the legal volley from Trump, who claimed “60 Minutes” edited an interview with his 2024 election opponent, then-Vice President Kamala Harris, to make her look better and bolster her chances in the election. CBS denied the claims, saying the edits were routine.

But the suit — described as frivolous by 1st Amendment experts — was seen as an obstacle to Paramount Global’s proposed $8-billion merger with David Ellison’s Skydance Media. The deal requires approval from the Federal Communications Commission, led by Trump acolyte Brendan Carr.

Stewart rhetorically asked Kroft if this settlement was “just a payment so this merger can go through and not be challenged by Trump’s FCC?”

Kroft, who noted that Paramount Global majority shareholder Shari Redstone wants the sale to go through, confirmed Stewart’s assessment.

Kroft noted that “60 Minutes” never said it screwed up, “they just paid the money.”

“So just flat-out protection money,” Stewart said.

“Yeah, it was a shakedown,” Kroft said.

Comedy Central, the cable network that serves as the home of “The Daily Show,” will be included in the Skydance deal. But Stewart remained relentless throughout the segment.

“It doesn’t feel like scrutiny on news networks — it feels like fealty,” Stewart said. “They are being held to a standard that will never be satisfactory to Donald Trump. No one can ever kiss his ass enough.”

Stewart has always spoken his mind on “The Daily Show,” delivering mostly harsh assessments of Trump. It remains to be seen if he’ll have that freedom when Skydance, led by Trump supporter Larry Ellison and his son David, eventually takes over.

Stewart returned to Comedy Central after parting ways with Apple TV in 2023. His last program, “The Problem With Jon Stewart,” ended after Apple executives reportedly expressed concerns over the comedian’s handling of potential show topics related to China and artificial intelligence.

Apple has deep ties to China and has launched an artificial intelligence product incorporated into its operating systems.

Stewart demonstrated the shakiness of the Trump lawsuit’s claims with an edited Fox News interview with Trump from last year.

Trump appeared to give a simple yes when asked on “Fox & Friends Weekend,” if he would de-classify government files on convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein. However, Trump equivocated in a longer version of the answer that aired later on the network.

With the Harris interview, CBS News split an answer on Israel that she gave to “60 Minutes” presenting one portion on its Sunday round table program on “Face the Nation.” A different portion aired on the actual program, which led Trump supporters to cry foul.

“I would like to know why the ’60 Minutes’ edit was worthy of a $16-million acquiescence of what is considered the Tiffany news, gold standard network … when very clearly, Fox just did what seems to me a more egregious edit,” Stewart said.

A representative for Paramount Global had no comment on Stewart’s remarks.

Kroft said the the mood is bleak at “60 Minutes” in the aftermath of the settlement.

“I think there is a lot of fear over there,” he said. “Fear of losing their jobs. Fear of losing their country. Fear of losing the 1st Amendment.”

BBC staff in ‘open revolt’ over axed Gaza documentary and claim bosses ‘out of touch’

It’s been claimed that staff at the BBC are in an ‘open revolt’ after the broadcaster scrapped a documentary about Gaza which will now be shown on Channel 4

Staff at the BBC are said to be in an “open revolt” after the broadcaster decided to scrap a documentary about Gaza, according to MailOnline. On Saturday, it was revealed that Channel 4 will now air the said documentary instead, which was earlier commissioned by the BBC.

Gaza: Doctors Under Attack was created by two Emmy award-winning filmmakers and commissioned by the BBC over the year ago. However, it’s been claimed that the corporation had put a pause on production in April after an investigation was launched into another documentary, titled Gaza: How to Survive a War Zone.

Following this, Channel 4 will now be broadcasting Gaza: Doctors Under Attack on Wednesday, July 2, at 10pm. But the BBC’s decision is said to have left a bad taste in their staff’s mouths and they are reportedly in uproar over the broadcaster not showing the documentary on their channels.

The aforementioned publication has claimed that more than 300 people have reportedly signed an open letter to director-general Tim Davie to raise concern about censorship at the BBC as it pertains to reporting about Israel.

An insider told MailOnline: “The people at commissioner level who are experienced journalists and take these decisions on an almost daily basis are being overruled by people who are pretending to be journalists.

“There’s open revolt [at the BBC]. [Bosses] approved the film multiple times and then delayed it at least five times but confirmed in emails that it would go out and that the delays were not due to the Johnstone report into Gaza: How to survive in a war zone.

“They said this [new documentary] was a vital film that exemplified ”public interest journalism’. After these multiple delays over six weeks they then apologised and said, ”Sorry, it is because of the Johnstone report”.’

Gaza: Doctors Under Attack is a one-off episode, produced by Basement Films, that examines allegations against Israel that the nation have repeatedly targeted hospitals which is a breach of international law. The documentary was made by journalist Ramita Navai, director Karim Shah and former Channel 4 News Editor Ben De Pear.

The source went on to tell MailOnline that they had to “handle the duty of care” for doctors and medics who couldn’t understand why their interviews wouldn’t be going out on the BBC.

“The film has been fact-checked and complied by Channel 4 to ensure it meets the broadcaster’s editorial standards and the Ofcom Broadcasting Code.

It was greenlit by Channel 4 Head of News and Current Affairs and Specialist Factual and Sport, Louisa Compton. She said: “This is a meticulously reported and important film examining evidence which supports allegations of grave breaches of international law by Israeli forces that deserves to be widely seen and exemplifies Channel 4’s commitment to brave and fearless journalism.”

Basement Films has added: “This is the third film we have made about the assault on Gaza since October 7th at Basement Films, and whilst none of them have been easy this became by far the most difficult. As ever we owe everything to our Palestinian colleagues on the ground; over 200 of whom have been killed by Israel, and the doctors and medics who trusted us with their stories.

“We want to apologise to the contributors and team for the long delay, and thank Channel 4 for enabling it to be seen.” Mirror have contacted both the BBC and Channel 4 for comment.

A BBC spokesperson told the Mirror: “Robust discussions amongst our editorial teams about our journalism are an essential part of the editorial process. We have ongoing discussions about coverage and listen to feedback from staff and we think these conversations are best had internally.

“Regarding our coverage of Gaza, the BBC is fully committed to covering the conflict impartially and has produced powerful coverage from the region. Alongside breaking news, ongoing analysis, and investigations, we have produced award winning documentaries such as Life and Death in Gaza, and Gaza 101.”

EastEnders star Samantha Womack slams ‘rejection’ from soap bosses and explains exit

Actress Samantha Womack has opened up on her exit from EastEnders as she revealed it was not her decision to say goodbye to her beloved Ronnie Mitchell role

Samantha Womack has hit out at soap bosses for being “rejected” as she reflected on her exit from EastEnders. The actress, who won over fans with her portrayal of Ronnie Mitchell, made her debut on the BBC soap in 2007.

She appeared alongside Rita Simons, who played her close sister Roxy. Tragically, the beloved sister duo were brutally killed off after Ronnie’s second wedding to Jack Branning.

The decision for both Ronnie and Roxy to bow out of Albert Square came when Sean O’Connor took over as executive producer. Now, Samantha has revealed she felt “rejected” by the new boss as she confessed it was not her or Rita’s decision to leave the soap.

She admitted: “I don’t really understand what happened, one producer was leaving and another was coming in, I don’t know what went on.” Leaving Walford felt like Samantha was “losing a family” as she struggled to come to terms with life without it.

Samantha compared the loss to a “bereavement” and revealed it made her lose “stability”. “But the thing that was the most painful – and it really was painful – was that me and Rita loved feeling like we belonged there,” she told the Daily Mail.

“Then to be rejected, and I know that’s emotional but that’s what it was, it hit us both so hard.” However, Samantha has been able to look at it differently now time has passed.

She said she is now thankful as leaving the soap opened up doors for other opportunities. Since leaving EastEnders, the actress has focused on her theatre career and landed a number of high profile roles.

In 2019, she travelled around the UK for The Girl on the Train and also played Morticia Addams in the musical, The Addams Family. She has since moved to Valencia.

However, things haven’t been easy for Samantha as she underwent gruelling treatment for breast cancer after being diagnosed in August 2022, which has changed her outlook on life.

“I feel so much more enlightened,” she told the Mirror. “I know myself better, I feel humbler, I feel calmer.” Samantha added: “After my year-and-a-half of treatment, I started turning down a lot of stuff – and I didn’t have the bank balance to match that confidence, trust me.”

Having announced she was cancer-free in December 2022, Samantha explained: “It was me saying the word ‘no’ and my bank account creaking.

“But there was empowerment in that because I thought, ‘OK, I need to go through this, spend time with myself and figure out stuff that I’ve never figured out – maybe stuff I’ve buried under a rug.’”

Samantha learned she had a fast-spreading, Grade 3 invasive duct carcinoma and her treatment – a lumpectomy and lymph node removal, followed by chemotherapy and radiotherapy – couldn’t wait.

Pubs could rake in £32m if Trooping The Colour was a bank holiday, booze bosses claim

BRITISH pubs could rake in a massive £32 million if Trooping the Colour was designated a bank holiday, beer bosses believe.

The British Beer and Pub Association say an extra 6.5 million pints would be pulled, pouring £5.5 million into the Treasury in VAT and £3 million in beer duty.

Booze bosses called for the King’s birthday to be marked every year with a three-day weekend.

Emma McClarkin, Chief Executive of the BBPA, said: “This weekend was a celebration of British tradition, nation and community.

“Our pubs are central to that story—bringing people together and boosting the economy.

“A bank holiday would not only honour our heritage but deliver a tangible economic and social dividend as communities come together and raise a glass to Beer Day Britain as well as celebrate everything that is great about Britain.”

She added that ministers should support pubs with a long-term plan that includes a cut to beer duty and fairer business rates.

A new Love Island star was recently removed from the line-up of the upcoming series after bosses learned of his past arrest. Kyle Ashman, who was due to take part in the dating series airing this month, is no longer entering the Spanish villa following news of his recent arrest coming to light.

Earlier this year, the 23-year-old water operative was arrested and quizzed by police with another person over an attack in Stafford, which Kyle said he had no involvement in a recent statement. After being quizzed by police, he was released with no further action.

Speaking on his exit, Kyle said: “I fully cooperated with this police investigation and made it very clear that I had no involvement in this incident. I am not a violent person and any suggestion otherwise is a mischaracterisation.”

ITV also released a statement on his departure saying: “For personal reasons, Kyle will not be entering the Love Island Villa as planned.

Staffordshire Police had previously said: “We were called to a social club on Riverway, Stafford, at 7.40pm on Friday, February 28 following reports that someone had been glassed outside and a fight was taking place. Some of the men involved were wearing masks and were carrying weapons.

“Two men went to hospital after suffering injuries at the scene. Both have since been discharged. A man and a woman suffered minor injuries at the scene but did not want any medical treatment.

“Officers have reviewed CCTV footage and have been actively carrying out enquiries to find out more about what happened. A 22-year-old man, from Stafford, was arrested on suspicion of wounding and affray. Another man, also 22 and from Stafford, was arrested on suspicion of affray.

“Both were questioned in custody and bailed with conditions while our enquiries continue.”

The police later confirmed both suspects were released with no further action last month.

Meanwhile, when Kyle was meant to enter the villa, he shared his expectations from the show and shared how he flirted with women.

He said: “I just go with it, find something to compliment a girl on and go from there.”

The star went on to say he was looking for “someone that’s fun, confident and just themselves”.

Brits face holiday hotspot hell as bar staff in Tenerife send ultimatum to bosses or vow they will strike in peak season

BRITS chasing the sun this summer could face fresh holiday hell as bar staff prepare to strike during peak season.

It comes after 80,000 employees took to the streets in Tenerife earlier in the year demanding better pay and working conditions.

In a move that could spark chaos for Brits travelling to Tenerife this summer, union bosses said industrial action could start as early as July.

The unions, Sindicalistas de Base and UGT, have issued bosses with an ultimatum, warning of a major walk out if they are not granted a 6.5 per cent salary bump.

They have made it clear that no further negotiations will happen if these conditions are not met.

This isn’t the first time Tenerife has been at the centre of sweeping industrial action.

Last month, cleaners and restaurant workers in the sunny hotspot took to the streets after deeming an offer from their employer not acceptable.

The tourism employers’ association, formed by Ashotel and AERO, had offered a four per cent increase in pay for workers, hoping it would prevent them from protesting during the Easter holidays.

But unions wanted 6.25 per cent.

They said their decision was unanimous and would not change plans to strike against tourists.

With over 170,000 tourism workers in the Canary Islands set to protest, business owners about to welcome thousands of tourists were despairing.

They planned to demonstrate in all the tourist hotspots, including Tenerife, Gran Canaria and Lanzarote.

Inside Tenerife’s ongoing war between tourists and locals

By law, strikers have to provide a “minimum service” but the unions said hotel cleaning, food and entertainment don’t fall into this category.

They said they must try and preserve the health of hotel workers and provide them with the very best of working conditions.

Elsewhere, locals flooded the streets to protest against mass tourism in the area.

Activists vowed to storm popular tourist attractions, disrupt public events and “confront political leaders” in a fiery new phase of protests kicking off May 18 — right as peak holiday season begins.

“From now on, we will take our fight to the very spaces where their predatory model is perpetuated,” declared pressure group Canarias tiene un límite (The Canaries Have a Limit).

“We will boycott public events, confront political leaders during their appearances and occupy symbolic tourist spaces to make it clear that we will not stop until real change is achieved.”

“The Canary Islands can no longer be a postcard backdrop for the enjoyment of a privileged few,” the statement read.

In a separate warning, the group said: “This cry, which reflects the feelings of a people tired of being ignored and mistreated, will be the beginning of a new stage of struggle: firmer, more direct, more uncomfortable for those who refuse to listen to us and take real measures.”

The backlash follows a 170,000-strong hotel and restaurant workers’ strike across the islands just days ago, with locals slamming low wages and poor working conditions in the booming holiday industry.

In June last year, beach workers also walked off the job over what unions called “precarious” conditions.

As tensions boil over, the Canary Islands Government has now announced plans to completely overhaul its outdated 30-year-old tourism laws in a landmark reform effort.

Alfonso Cabello, spokesperson for the regional government, said: “We’re doing this the Canary Islands way — extending a hand and listening to everyone.”

The sweeping reforms aim to tackle everything from sky-high housing costs in tourist areas to crumbling infrastructure and overworked public services.

What was Gary Lineker’s controversial Instagram post that was ‘final straw’ for BBC bosses?

Gary Lineker is reportedly set to step down from the BBC on Monday following growing backlash over a controversial social media post that sparked accusations of anti-Semitism

Former England footballer and Match of the Day presenter Gary Lineker is expected to leave the BBC by mutual agreement, amid escalating criticism surrounding his recent social media activity.

The fallout began last Monday after Lineker, 64, shared a pro-Palestinian video on Instagram that included a rat emoji which is a symbol historically used in Nazi propaganda to dehumanize Jewish people. The post drew widespread condemnation and was quickly deleted. Lineker issued an apology, but the controversy continued to intensify throughout the week.

Pressure on the broadcaster increased on Thursday after The Telegraph published a revealing interview in which Lineker expanded on his criticism of Israel’s actions and appeared to take aim at senior figures within the BBC.

According to sources, plans for Lineker to lead BBC coverage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup have now been scrapped. His early departure from the broadcaster is expected to be confirmed today.

The Match of the Day star, who is the highest-paid presenter at the BBC apologised for sharing a video an anti-Zionism video. The post featured a picture of a rat, which has historically been used as an antisemitic insult, referring to language used in Nazi Germany to characterise Jews.

Gary immediately deleted the post after realising the significance of the symbol, according to his agent. Last Tuesday afternoon, he also issued a statement in which he “apologised unreservedly” for his “mistake”.

“On Instagram I reposted material which I have since learned contained offensive references,” he said in a statement. “I very much regret these references. “I would never knowingly share anything antisemitic. It goes against everything I believe in.”

The Match of the Day presenter said he deleted the post “as soon as I became aware of the issue. Whilst I strongly believe in the importance of speaking out on humanitarian issues, including the tragedy unfolding in Gaza, I also know that how we do so matters,” Lineker continued.

Gary apologised for any offense caused

“I take full responsibility for this mistake. That image does not reflect my views. It was an error on my part for which I apologise unreservedly,” he concluded.

Gary had been due to leave the BBC after the 2026 World Cup but the long-standing Match of the Day host appears ready to bring an early end to his time with the broadcaster. The seasoned presenter has quit amid the backlash to a social media post on the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

He reshared content from the group Palestine Lobby, prompting claims from Campaign Against Antisemitism that they would be lodging a complaint.

Tim Davie, director general of the BBC, previously issued a response to the backlash. “The BBC’s reputation is held by everyone and when someone makes a mistake, it costs us,” he said.

Back in 2023, Lineker was taken off the air for an episode of Match of the Day following comments about Conservative government language.

“We take far fewer refugees than other major European countries,” he wrote. “This is just an immeasurably cruel policy directed at the most vulnerable people in language that is not dissimilar to that used by Germany in the 30s, and I’m out of order?”

In a recent interview with the BBC’s Amol Rajan, Lineker questioned the Beeb’s social media guidelines. “The impartiality rules were for people in news and current affairs. They have subsequently changed,” he said.

“But that left people like me, who has always given his honest opinions about things. Then they suddenly changed them and you have to go, ‘Oh, I’ve got to be impartial now’. It doesn’t make any sense.

“Why worry about the people who don’t like you. This is the mistake the BBC makes. The BBC tries to appease the people that hate the BBC. The people who always attack the licence fee. They worry far too much about that, rather than worrying about the people who love the BBC.”

“Why shouldn’t I have an opinion on things?” Lineker asked in the same interview with Rajan. “I’ve always been strong on humanitarian issues and always will be, and that’s me. The goalposts were massively moved because it was never an issue until, suddenly, this point.

“It was always stipulated in the BBC guidelines that in terms of impartiality, it was for people who work in news and current affairs. I am very, very thoughtful about what I say. They took me off air and it was a silly overreaction.”

Captaincy options for Gameweek 36: Dream Team bosses putting their faith in Erling Haaland

DREAM TEAM managers are putting their faith in Erling Haaland (£7.8m) ahead of Gameweek 36.

Not only is Manchester City’s No9 the second-most popular recruit this week, he’s currently the most selected captain.

Mr PopularCredit: Dream Team

Mohamed Salah (£6.8m) has been the most popular skipper almost every week since he established a healthy lead at the top of the rankings but many gaffers are reverting to Haaland because Pep Guardiola’s side are one of just four teams with two fixtures to fulfil this Gameweek.

There’s the small matter of the FA Cup final against Crystal Palace this Saturday before a Premier League meeting with Bournemouth at the Etihad on Tuesday night.

The Norwegian poacher returned from injury against Southampton last weekend and mustered just two points but his overall record of 30 goals and 352 points remains highly impressive.

Rotation is the lingering spectre that haunts almost every Man City asset and Haaland may be particularly susceptible having just returned from a spell on the sidelines, with Omar Marmoush (£4.8m) a more than competent understudy.

But it goes without saying that Haaland is capable of earning enough points to justify the captain’s armband in just 15 minutes if everything clicks, such is his goalscoring pedigree.

MANCHESTER, ENGLAND - MAY 08: Mason Mount of Manchester United celebrates with Bruno Fernandes after scoring their first goal during the UEFA Europa League 2024/25 Semi Final Second Leg match between Manchester United and Athletic Club at Old Trafford on May 08, 2025 in Manchester, England. There’s no shortage of options for Dream Team bosses who want to take on Haaland in Gameweek 36.

Bruno Fernandes (£7m) has been a near-permanent inclusion among the captaincy candidates in the second half of the campaign and with good reason.

Manchester United’s captain averages eight points-per-game having notched 19 goals and 19 assists in all competitions this term.

Ruben Amorim has said that his team selection to face Chelsea this evening will not be overly disrupted by preparations for Wednesday night’s Europa League final.

If we are to take the Red Devils’ boss on his word then Fernandes is surely in line to start against both the Blues and Spurs this coming Gameweek.

Eberechi Eze of Crystal Palace celebrates scoring a goal.

Not to be overlookedCredit: Getty

Elsewhere, Eberechi Eze (£5.1m) is a tempting option as someone who would provide a key point of difference.

Crystal Palace’s No10 is the most-popular transfer target ahead of today’s 6pm deadline but not currently among the most selected captains.

Eze excelled in Gameweek 35 with an 18-point haul at Tottenham’s expense and is therefore well placed to provide healthy returns again with Man City and Wolves in his sights.

However, it’s hard to predict Palace’s starting line-up on Tuesday night as they don’t have much to play for in the league.

If the Eagles triumph at Wembley then Eze and friends may still be partying by the time they’re due to host Vitor Pereira’s side.

Lastly, we’ll include Ollie Watkins (£4.4m) and Morgan Rogers (£4.3m) in the captaincy candidates.

Aston Villa only have one fixture this coming Gameweek but it might be a profitable one.

The Villains are due to host Spurs this evening and there’s every chance Ange Postecoglou will name a weakened XI to prioritise the Europa League final.

The North Londoners haven’t got the tightest defence at the best of times – they’ve shipped 82 goals in all competitions this season! – and so Villa’s most prominent attackers could thrive against a second-string outfit with other things on their mind.

Make sure to select your captain (and vice captain) before 6pm today!

An L.A. County firefighter assaulted his neighbor. But his bosses couldn’t fire him

For the Los Angeles County Fire Department, it’s a clear red line: firefighters cannot assault their neighbors.

That’s why the department fired Adam Clint, a longtime Santa Clarita fire captain, whose heated off-duty dispute with a man a few doors down landed him with a felony assault conviction.

“By assaulting your neighbor and being convicted of a felony, you engaged in conduct unbecoming a fire captain,” Deputy Fire Chief Thomas Ewald wrote in a January 2023 termination letter. “Your misconduct embarrassed and discredited the Department.”

But the Fire Department may soon have to take Clint back.

In February, the L.A. County Civil Service Commission voted unanimously to reinstate Clint, 51, and award him more than two years of back pay.

The commissioners found that there wasn’t enough evidence to support accusations that Clint called his neighbor, who is Black, the N-word and brandished a gun before knocking him to the ground. They also found that Clint was stressed by the “aggressive” demeanor and “threatening” words of the neighbor, Robert Pope.

“His misconduct on July 3, 2021 was an isolated, uncharacteristic lapse in judgment not likely to be repeated,” the commission’s hearing officer wrote in his report, which recommended downgrading Clint’s punishment to a 30-day suspension.

The Fire Department is appealing the decision, filing a petition in L.A. County Superior Court on April 14 stating that it was “well within the Department’s discretion” to fire Clint. It is unclear where Clint, who took home $295,000, including benefits, the year of the assault, would be assigned if he returns to the department.

Steve Haney, Clint’s attorney, said his client feels deep remorse for hitting Pope but denies ever pointing a gun or calling him a racial slur. A judge reduced Clint’s felony assault conviction to a misdemeanor, which was later expunged from his record.

“The guy doesn’t have a racist bone in his body,” said Haney, who questioned why the county was spending money on outside lawyers to keep Clint out of a job. “It’s a ridiculous waste of taxpayer money.”

In the last four years, the civil service commission has forced department heads to take back dozens of workers they had tried to fire — including sheriff’s deputies, probation staffers and social workers — costing the county millions in back pay, records show.

Of the roughly 65 employees the commission has moved to reinstate since 2021, nearly two-thirds were peace officers from the Sheriff’s or Probation departments, according to a review of the commission’s minutes and annual reports.

The commission is made up of five members, each appointed by an L.A. County supervisor, who serve for $150 a meeting.

The city of Los Angeles has a similar commission, as well as Board of Rights panels for police officer discipline. The union that represents rank-and-file Los Angeles Police Department officers successfully pushed for the passage of a ballot measure allowing for more civilians on Board of Rights panels after a study showed that civilians were routinely more lenient on problem cops than their fellow police officers were.

John Donner, president of the county civil service commission, said he and his colleagues typically agree with the departments’ disciplinary decisions. He characterized the relationship between county departments and the commission as “pretty civil.” In 2023, the commission upheld roughly three out of four disciplinary decisions.

After Jim McDonnell became sheriff in 2014, he started suing to challenge the commission’s reinstatements of deputies who had been fired for lying, saying he did not know where to assign a deputy who would lack the credibility to testify in court.

Robert Luna, who has been sheriff since 2022, has not filed any petitions contesting the commission’s decisions regarding his deputies, court records show.

Probation Chief Guillermo Viera Rosa has fought in court to overturn two commission decisions.

One involved an employee fired in 2021 for buying a lobster lunch for a minor who wasn’t on her caseload and repeatedly visiting an imprisoned gang member without approval. A judge ordered the commission in April to reconsider that decision. In the other case, which is ongoing, a deputy was fired in 2019 after video footage showed he lied about a minor beating him up.

In 2022, the commission brought back probation bureau chief Hellen Carter, who was fired, in part, for lying to colleagues about being a psychiatrist, a coroner, a Pro Bass fisherman, a trauma surgeon, an Olympic swimmer, an acrobatic pilot and an Army vet who had lost 70% of her hearing from a bomb blast in Afghanistan, according to her disciplinary notice. The commission found that the decision to fire her was based on “false and unreliable allegations.”

The Probation Department sued to stop her reinstatement, saying she was a “blight and liability” and her behavior was “egregious and persistent (not quirky).” The department lost.

Carter did not respond to an email. When she returned to the county in 2024, she collected more than half a million dollars in backpay, according to salary records.

The neighborhood spat spiraled out of control almost immediately.

On July 3, 2021, Pope’s wife called him to say that Clint had just berated her for speeding on their Santa Clarita cul-de-sac.

Pope said he stopped by Clint’s house, and the two got into a heated argument in the doorway, culminating with the captain pointing a gun at him and yelling to “get the f— off my property,” punctuated with a racial slur.

Clint went inside his house and reemerged with a gun, according to Pope. As Pope retreated to his car, where his two 14-year-old stepdaughters were waiting, Clint knocked him out from behind, leaving him on the ground until he regained consciousness, Pope said. He said he later discovered a footprint-shaped bruise on his back.

Clint initially denied to sheriff’s deputies that he had hit Pope, but later admitted to punching him in the head.

After giving a statement to the deputies that morning, Pope arrived at his sister’s funeral, where he was supposed to be a pallbearer, just as everyone was leaving.

Tensions between Clint’s and Pope’s families worsened. In 2022, Clint sued Pope and his wife, Rozanna Avetyan, as well as L.A. County, arguing that the sheriff’s deputies and fire officials were biased in favor of Pope based on “his African American Ancestry.” Clint also alleged in the lawsuit that he was not afforded due process, “clearly due to his Caucasian race.” The case was dismissed.

Pope sued a year later for battery. That case is ongoing.

Pope and his wife said the family has struggled to move on from that day, becoming so reluctant to leave the house that they gave away their dogs so they wouldn’t have to encounter Clint on walks. They eventually decided to move away.

“I just don’t understand how he got his job back,” Pope said. “It is just mind-blowing.”

One user was trying to buy an ‘Apple Pencil 2nd Generation’ and sent the seller an offer for £37.50.

Then, the seller sent a bizarre message to her, reading: “I’d love to take you on a date if you’re single and over age.”

She took to Facebook to share the strange exchange, and people were quick to joke that “Vinted is the new dating site”.

However, others warned that such messages could have serious safety consequences.

One penned: “Thank God you didn’t buy it, that’s so creepy.”

Another said: “What the actual f**k, what creep is using Vinted to date?”

Others called the seller a “cheeky bugger” and warned women to “stay safe” using the app, as if she bought the pen, he might have access to her address.

The message sent is against Vinted’s policy.

The app’s community standards guide reads: “Private messages between members are for exchanging information regarding the items on the platform.

“Violent, hateful, racist, extremist, shocking, sexist, discriminating, pornographic or sexual messages are strictly prohibited.

“Including those containing descriptions of illegal and immoral acts, encouraging illegal acts or drug use, or containing links to pages with the type of content mentioned above.

“Private messages should always show respect to everyone involved.

“Anything indecent, hateful, or illegal will be removed by Vinted, as per our Terms and Conditions.

“If a private message violates our Community Standards, seems spammy, inappropriate, or even like a threat to the whole Vinted community, please help us spot it by reporting it to the Vinted team.”

This Morning star admits ‘job loss fears’ caused her to hide pregnancy from ITV bosses

The This Morning star has admitted that she kept her pregnancy a secret from ITV bosses.

Sian Welby has opened up about concealing her pregnancy from her This Morning bosses due to job security concerns.

The TV presenter and radio DJ, who is set to marry Heart Breakfast’s creative producer Jake Beckett, welcomed their baby girl Ruby in June 2024. Sian has been keeping her followers on social media in the loop about her new journey into motherhood.

At 38, Sian kept her pregnancy under wraps until she was just four months away from welcoming little Ruby. Her pregnancy news broke only a month after she started co-hosting This Morning with Dermot O’Leary.

While chatting on Giovanna Fletcher’s Happy mum Happy Baby podcast, Sian shed light on her reasons for maintaining privacy around her pregnancy, reports the Manchester Evening News.

She explained: “When you first start a job, you think ‘nobody knows what I’m actually like, that I’m trustworthy’ and you have to prove yourself.

“I felt like I had proven myself [on This Morning], that I can do this and that – when I got that first cover with Dermot, I knew I was pregnant but I didn’t tell anyone,” Sian confessed.

She further expressed her concerns, saying: “In the back of my mind I was thinking, ‘If I tell them I’m pregnant, will this put them off getting me in again? And will they think I’m gonna be off for ages?'”

Sian acknowledged that her fears are likely shared by many women, particularly when embarking on a new role.

The This Morning host added: “It’s the fear that you’re going to be immediately judged or dropped or they’ll ask why you didn’t tell them.”

The TV favourite revealed a close call with her secret when she was 20 weeks pregnant, as a pair of trousers she had ordered turned out to be unexpectedly snug.

Alison Hammond remains Dermot O’Leary’s regular co-host for the Friday slot on This Morning, but Sian steps in as a stand-in presenter when her fellow presenters are away.

When Sian announced the arrival of her baby last year, she posted an adorable snapshot of baby Ruby, showing the newborn snuggled up facing away from the camera, wearing a personalised brown cardigan with her name knitted across it.

Beyond her role on This Morning, Sian is also known for lighting up the airwaves on Capital Breakfast, where she joins forces with co-hosts Jordan North and Chris Stark.

This Morning airs weekdays on ITV1, from 10am.
