A HOMEOWNER’S driveway was covered in stubborn moss that had been growing for two years.
Amy Kirwan, a gardening guru from Leitrim, Ireland, said she attempted using white vinegar to remove the moss, but didn’t have much success.
As a result, she took things back to basics and instead of breaking the bank on posh cleaning products, tried a very simple and free method.
Eager to show off the results of her moss removal method, Amy took to social media.
Posting on Gardening Hints Tips and DIY crafters, a public Facebook group with 1.6 million members, Amy uploaded snaps of her driveway and penned: “So after two years living in our house I’m finally tackling the moss on the driveway.
“I’ve sprayed it a couple times with vinegar but never went in and brushed it and got rid of it.
“You can see how clean the area is.
“I’m just using some good old fashioned elbow grease and the hose.
“I’m not using a powerhouse as I don’t want to damage the tarmac.”
Showing off her clean driveway, Amy then explained: “When I’m finished I’m going to respray with vinegar to kill off the green moss that’s a bit deeper.
“But what I do want to ask is: is there anything I can do that’s chemical free (I’ve small kids and dogs) that will keep the moss completely away. Thanks in advance.”
Amy’s post has clearly impressed many, as social media users eagerly flocked to the comments to praise Amy’s clean driveway.
One user beamed: “Looks fab! Well done you!”
A second chimed in: “Great job.”
Whilst someone else wrote: “Looks much better.”
More moss removal methods
One person said: “Washing powder works really well.”
Another added: “Soda crystals. Dilute in water. Spray on the path with a watering can on a dry day.
“Leave until the moss turns orange and it will brush off easily.”
A third commented: “Anti bacterial spray, Sainsbury’s 99p, just spray and leave, it kills the moss spores.”
